How about voters decides if they allow gambling to be legalize in their country?

In my own country, I believe majority of the people will vote to legalize gambling. Am from a country where the cost of living is high, and unemployment is high too, and high paying jobs are very few, so the young people see gambling as something that can support them financially even though winning is not guaranteed all the time.
Many people who gamble, do so to earn some money. When majority of young people are facing financial difficulty, they gamble even with the little money they have at hand, and in this kind of situation, they will always vote to legalize gambling.

I think the same goes for my country as well, people would not even think twice to vote for gambling to be legalized because most people see gambling as a source of income for them and a lot of people gamble in their spare time to get entertained. In a nutshell, people in my country take gambling seriously and it's important to them.

Any country that understands what Rights means they would definitely not hinder people that wish to gamble from gambling by trying to vote against it. A country that understands that the choice of people to gamble is a human righ they have just as the right to association, worship and others. That's same how gambling is, it's an adult game or activity and as such no one should restrict an adult from doing what they love provided it doesn't cause harm to the next person close.

First of all, gambling is not banned in my country even though it is frown against in many communities especially a religious dominated places. Assuming government decides to ban gambling today and then open a voting system for the citizens to choose between legalizing gambling or banning gambling, it'll be a total waste of resources conducting such election because people that'll stand in favour of legalizing gambling will triple people that will stand against it based on the current realities in the country.

This thread reminds me of my previous thread on this board about Nigerians attitudes to gambling and how much they spend on gambling daily. Nigerians spend $975m daily on online betting I believe you already know what I'm talking about looking at the stats in that thread and I believe the data keeps rising since then.

I think there was a senator who made a move to make gambling illegal in Nigeria. It stirred a lot of uproar because so many people were against the idea of making gambling illegal, and their reason was that gambling is causing a lot of youth to be violent and turning them into thugs, which is a pretty stupid argument.

Several news outlets carried it, and a lot of people said if there are to ban gambling, then a means for those who are unemployed and trying their luck should be provided.

Same country understanding the rights of its people too is responsible for the financial upliftment of the people. As said it is an adult game. Even the country that have the best development in technology isn't able to allow only the adult to gamble. Even before the specific age slab people gamble as there are more loopholes which can't be sealed with the best technology or by the government. This is surely going to ruin the young generation. This will be the thinking among the common people, which makes majority to vote against the legalizing of gambling.

Now, there is often pros and cons if we let the people to decide. Some will not be happy about the outcome, especially who are passionate in gambling. But what can we do than to respect and follow the result. However, this isn't possible in my country since gambling has been legalized already years ago. But the threat now is the rising number of illegal casinos, and I just hope the government will be able to find solution to that.

Given what's happening in my country, I'm very skeptical that the government will hold a vote on gambling.
And even if there were a vote, I'm sure more people would vote to prohibit gambling.

Why?
- People in my country still strongly adhere to religion, and all religions in this country prohibit gambling.
- When gambling was prohibited, there were already many cases of gambling addiction, domestic violence, and criminality resulting from online gambling, especially if it were legalized.
- Not everyone can control themselves when gambling. Legalization would mean more convenience for them to gamble, especially offline gambling.

Honestly, I'm not particularly against gambling, but legalizing it in my country seems unlikely, and I hope it doesn't happen.

It is hard to know what the result will be if a certain region or community is asked to make a vote that will decide if they want gambling to be legalized, but what i believe is that this type of voting shouldn't be allowed since gambling is something the government will benefit from if taxed.
Nevertheless, there should be tangible rules and regulations to prevent gambling abuse and the prevention of underage gambling.

Is it just a seasonal voting if they will permit to make gambling legal on that area? I think it's a good initiative for those states or areas where they think that gambling addiction has been so rampant.

If there's no way for their higher constitutional body to stop or curb the numbers then let the people decide of what it do.

But the punishment should still be humane and a way to teach these people that they have to change for the better as it forces them to.

Exactly, if voting power is given to the power, then decisions made by the vote, even if they don't favour a few people, should be accepted. This is why I asked the member above the question, as it makes it seem those who might agree to support rules that stand against gambling don't support what the people like.

They will try to figure out a way even if it's not 100% effective, as long as those operators, some of them, are in your countries; it will only cost your government little time, but they will definitely crack a few of them down.

If the government asks its people to vote on whether to legalize gambling, I think there are 2 categories of people in my country: those in favor of legalizing gambling and those against it. Not everyone wants gambling to be legal, because those who are aware citizens here think that, because of gambling, crime increases in society. People lose their valuable resources and fall under the grip of gambling addiction. It damages people financially, and even the government is not in favor of legalizing gambling. Rather, the government has taken a very strict stance on it, blocking more than 100 gambling sites, so as to keep common people away from gambling. However, in my country, most of the young generation is addicted to gambling, because the availability of Android devices and online gambling is much easier now. But I think even if the government took a vote from the general public to legalize it, most people would still vote against legalizing it.

The liberty of people to do whatever they want with their money is supposed to be protected by the government, as long one is not hurting anyone in any way.

This'll be a case closed on matter arising like this and this point alone can't be argued if the masses speaks on the one voice and the government too would be considerate to pay closely attentions on this demand.
What goes about on that note is just the formation we also talks about that gambling isn't a bad influence to the people instead, it's the people that put themselves to in the stress on being addicted and the rest of the irresponsible gambling as habits.
In other aspects of live, people may have privilege to live their lives and therefore, it won't be bad if gambling is also legalized in the region. The main thing is the fact that everyone gambling is at their own personal risks.

In my country, if the government leaves it up to the people to decide whether to legalize gambling, perhaps the younger generation will vote in favor of gambling, but the more aware citizens will vote against it.
Gambling is illegal in my country, but there are many citizens in this country who participate in gambling, even if they do not participate in physical casinos, but participate in online casinos. So in my country, government permission is not required, rather people participate in gambling in a decentralized manner, which has no control over the government. It is a welcome development for a country to give the citizens the previlege to decide or their opinion being accepted. Many countries will not allow This, it's a sign of unity and oness and a good democracy. No matter your reasons, gamble shouldn't be at any cost seen as an alternative way of making money or even taking as a source of living, that mindset is very wrong and can lead to so many issues  like addiction along the line if not careful.  Perhaps, you said economy is hard no doubt then why choose gamble as the way out when you can literally Lost the little you have in it, their are some other better ways you can look up to that can be more helpful to you than gambling in a desperate way of making profits.

The question is different: how many people will vote and not ignore this issue? Ensuring turnout is not easy, but with modern technology, it is entirely possible. One option is to post such a question somewhere on a local news website so that everyone can cast their vote via a mobile device. Social media shouldn't be ruled out either. These are very important platforms visited by a huge number of people.

Living on chance in case of economic crisis can lead to a diminished economic condition. The mentality of gambling as income generating is a vicious cycle with severe outcome of addiction. Admittedly, it is much safer to find alternative source of income in case of future, the gambling in desperate times just will not help to resolve your issue the gambling will only contribute to the problem.

Democracy was already done through voting an official that will take care for the decision making on such trivial matters. The country progress will hinder due to slow voting process if an issue like this still need to be voted by the majority.

They are only making this moves just to know the people's opinion about gambling and if they are probably interested or not as a majority, but I can give you the assurance that government are not ready to go in line with the people's choice when it comes to gambling approach, instead they are going to make sure they implement their own policy and stand on it s rather than going by what the general opinion of the people.

OK, an interesting topic to discuss here, In my own country, majority, most especially the youths, both male and females are into gambling already, different people are into different forms of gambling, some are into sports betting which remains the most popular form of betting here in my country, while some others are into slot and casino games, others are into a form of gambling known as lotto, while others are into another one known as pool.

Lotto and pool are a form of gambling that are mostly occupied by elders people, most male and female elderly people are into either lotto or pool gambling or both, while the youths mostly focus on betting on sports, slot and casino games.
By this, you should already have an idea of what a vote to allow or disallow gambling in my country will turn out to be? Allowing gambling will definitely win by a very long or large margin against to disallow gambling.
