Your statement cannot be generalized, rich people gamble more for fun than to make a living, but not all of them, I know some rich people who gamble because they want to increase their wealth more quickly. Even in my personal opinion, I don't think about this that the 2-3% is a really very high amount of money or the people are being the rich people by the gambling. Rather I will say that this amount is much lower even I will say that the percentage will be lowers that the 1%. It is not possible that all rich people are gambling for fun just like the way you generalized them to gamble for fun. I guess a lot of rich people are also gambling to increase their wealth that's why they also lose huge amount of money. For the same reason you are gambling? If poor gambler is losing sleep because they are losing bets, they are gambling with too much money.

But let me ask: what's rich to you? Someone who has 100x or 100000x times more assets then them poor people? Then to get that same excitement they would just gamble with 100x to 100000x bigger bets then those poor people, just to get that same excitement. And if they would be losing sleep over lost bets, they would be proportionally gambling too much as well.

The rich are humans like the poor, so they gamble for the same reason that the poor gamble, like for fun, for money, for knowledge, health and research purposes.

Rich people not only gamble, but they also build their own gambling business so that not only come as players they also come as investors
which will make gambling grow more and more and the rich person benefits from the chosen gambling.

It's easy when you have a lot of money to run a business, but if you're just a player then more money will be spent on entertainment.

The poor are not exempted if they like to gamble for fun, it's only on them but it's true that most of the poor are gambling for the money because they are not taking chances and they're serious for each penny that they spend for gambling. It's the same as those poor gamblers. Those who are rich are also gambling for two reasons: either they want to make money, or they want to have fun. Contrary to the idea you have about the rich, some who are rich are also looking for ways to make more money. Humans, by nature, are greedy, so don't be surprised to find someone with a whole lot of wealth gambling to get even more money.


So it's not entirely right to just write off the idea of the rich gambling for profits. If you read news about gamblers, you'd read about some rich individuals who became broke because they turned to gambling to increase their wealth.
