Well we're not quite sure if the money he is using is his own money and not the company, it might be a little concerning knowing that and honestly I would concern since we know that a person when get addicted to gambling, it may use all the available resources he has and that includes the business. Though I really like that the owner is pretty aware of it and is asking his employees thoughts about his activity, I think it's better that your friend tells him honestly that it might be concerning as it might risk the business and hence, his job.

There will be no problem as long as the person who is who is gambling doesn't joke with his his work. I believe that anyone gambling should do that in a responsible way and should not allow his gambling to temper with his job, every job should have rules and regulations and that includes been on time early to work what an employee does with the salary received at the end of the month is not a concern of the employer . The potential of harm on the company is established with that habit  but the making to reality can be averted, the employee may needed not bother so much except for the security of their job but the business by description should have attained some really good feet that can ensure the payment of employee in any case but then the employer needs to be advised or monitored if possible so as to help them build discipline for the sake of their business since the business is no longer about them alone but has got others that depends on it for survival.

If the employer is not exhibiting addictive tendencies with their new found habit, then the employee can be sure of some level of safety but whenever they notice it's beginning to become an addiction then there will be need for some concerns because at that point  that habit becomes a threat to the business and everyone concerned but if they have a good relationship, maybe a this point your friend can approach the employer and express their concerns if it will help, although I know it's a personal habit that shouldn't be of concern to the employer but then if the need arises they do so, then they can.

If I were him, I would mind my own business, not spy on what the boss does in his free time. Every man has the right to spend his money as he wants, and if that means he can gamble away his company, nothing can be done about it. There are plenty of other restaurants your friend could work at if this job fails.

True, his not suppose to be monitoring his boss private life because everyone has the right to spend their money any how they like. But it's still wise for the friend to be at alert little it's not about spy rather it's just to notice if there is any changes in work because of there is signs that shows things are not stable again, he can prepare himself early insteaf of waiting till the problem comes first

many companies, especially the big ones, have employers/owners with destructive habits. some like to party, splurge on yachts or cars, or whatnot. some companies survive even with those types of owners but there’s really no way of knowing whether the company will be fine even with an employer like that.

my advice would be if the compensation is good and they’re being treated well, no need to worry about the employer’s gambling habits.

Gambling addiction creeps in slowly with signs and it has more to do with the emotional state of the employer in question or what must have caused his current emotional state that makes him  suddenly indulge in gambling activities.
The employee sharing this concern, should look out for red flags that starts showing up mostly as his employer now frequent their  hobby of gambling.

If the red flags start showing up like delayed salary, delayed supplier concerns, temper tantrums and others that may be hooked into the company finances, it's time to leave the company or try confronting the employer to share this concern of their gambling habit and that's only if there's some form of shared closeness or friendship with the employer.

Honestly, the employee has no say in whatever his employer is doing outside the company.  Although we know the cause of his worry, the company shutting down due to bankruptcy caused by the frequent gambling of the employer, as long as the employer is paying them in a timely manner, and giving them the benefits if the company shuts down, your friend should not concern himself on the gambling engagement of his employer. It is the employer's right.

For the main part of gamblers casino is not a problem but i way to spend time, spend some money and get emotions. It is more about some relax event, may be like visiting football match or cinema.
But always there is a chance that he is(or can be) a gambling addict. In such case it can become a problem.

In such situation the best way is to pay attention for details as for me: how often he talks about it, how much he lose, is there are some changes in salary of employees , etc.
