How the fix was implemented? What if the owner of lost wallet do not update? I understand that version 1.5 fix this issue, but what will be for user with the older releases?

Once the majority of the network update it, the fix will work properly. That's the reason we all should update and not wait for the others to do it.

It will be enabled a little bit later when more people deposit their coins so that the initial trading won't be so abnormal due to the lack of coins

Do Mintpal votes have a lifespan?

I only ask because all the votes values changed earlier - MEOW was on 60K+ votes but is now down to 37K and a lot of others changed at the same time.

edit: and GOX went from 80K+ to 37K

I remember one coin, it might have been C2, was using a bot to make mintpal votes. Mintpal figured it out and deducted loads of votes from the coin. They might have done the same thing to MEOW.

No other node would accept that transaction as a valid transaction so it wouldn't be accepted in any block. The transaction would only be accepted for the clients which do not update and, as long as they are less the 50% of the network their blockchain would become invalid.

We can't make the updated mandatory, but as long as most of the users update we are ok. As a bonus, major nodes (like exchanges, faucets and other services) which run 24x7 count more if they were updated since they are always running and have much more connections (which helps the real transactions and blocks to spread fast).

In short, all users holding COMM or willing to help it have incentive to update and don't be worried about this anymore.
