Sending unnecessary PM's likoe this is totally unaccepted but from the message he sent he asked a question out of curiosity probably because he is a newbie. He wasn't being entitled in anyway or trying to beg for merits, he simply wanted to know how he could earn more merits.
For the fact that he didn't beg like some ridiculous people do shows his willingness to learn. One thing that slows a lot of newbies down is thinking too much about how to get merits, instead of improving on the quality of their posts by reading and gaining more knowledge they allow themselves to get frustrated by lack of merits.
Like you said, there are no magic tricks to earn merits, you must work on making quality posts, this is what attracts merits, even though the Merit system has changed it doesn't mean that it is impossible to get it.

The problem is that today people are used to getting everything immediately, without waiting. If they are interested in the answer to a question, they will no longer go to the library and look for the answer among the books, as they used to, but they will look for the answer on Google or AI. It is similar with this forum. New members have probably heard from someone that they can earn something on this forum, they register and then realize the importance of merits to be able to sign up for different signature campaigns. Obviously, many newbie members don't have the patience to wait to get merits through their regular activity on the forum, through learning and gradual personal growth, and they try to find a shortcut. Quality posts require knowledge and experience, and above all, time and investment, there is no shortcut.

The reason it is annoying to see newbies talk about merits is that many of them just want to rank up quickly so they can join campaigns and start earning. They are not ignorant of the benefits of ranking up; they already knew about all of these before they registered their accounts. If you see real newbies, you would know that they are truly newbies because it would show in their ignorance. It is more annoying when they start creating misleading posts to draw attention for merits. I doubt that some of them are aware of the forum rules. Newbies should act like newbies, and they will have fewer issues with older forum members. Newbies learn and do research, not become so desperate for merits, positive trust, and other things they should not struggle for.

You're absolutely correct. Many young people nowadays don't want to put in much hard work in what they does, they always want positive outcome as quick as possible. And to be honest things aren't done that way especially on forum. However, pursuing financial benefits or gains shouldn't be the main reason of joining the forum because for a user to see it as his main reason will make him or she miss out in a whole lot of other benefits that's worth more than what he thinks. Knowledge they say is power, let not jeopardize our chances of equipping ourselves with knowledge that can last us till enternity to some kinda temporary gains (peanut) that can only serve us for the main time.

New members have probably heard from someone that they can earn something on this forum, they register and then realize the importance of merits to be able to sign up for different signature campaigns. What you said is the major reasons why newbie hunts for merit...And if you check very well, their's no newbie in the forum anymore...Most of newbie in the forum are some people's alt, that's why they're serious in hunting for merit, so that it will enable them to sign in into signature campaigns faster.. Someone who doesn't know about signature can't be desperate to earn merit..I could remember when I joined bitcointalk newly, I was busy reading in most of the sections to enable me to understand the system, but now most of newbies knows everything about the forum..

Thank you, I agree with you and the others who responded to my post. Yes, knowledge is indeed strength and power because the one who has knowledge will always know what to do to be successful and make money. Success requires hard study and work, without that there are no results. The forum members, who have been here for a long time, understand very well all the benefits of this forum, and these are not only signature campaigns and some other projects where you can earn money, but also information and news about different crypto projects, networking, getting to know the crypto community, live meetings, even the opportunity to meet the owners of different crypto companies and get a specific job and much more. I feel sorry for all those who only focus on signature campaigns and merits because if they invested their time in studying these other things, they would get much more from this forum. But as someone said, many of these newbie members are obviously very well aware of the importance of merits, it seems even before they register on this forum, and they've already decided what the only thing they want from this forum is.

This can also be seen in their writing style or how they interpret problems. But it's also possible that some are correct. If they read a lot and follow crypto or related developments and there's something they don't understand, it's natural for them to be curious and motivated to ask questions or want to provide answers or thoughts they believe they know. I think that's normal.

Still there is nothing wrong about guiding them but a direct point to seek a merit is a big no of course.
Just my observation recently is some of the newbies are into hurry too much to get rank up until Full member others wanted to join and participate immediately in the campaign but if these newbies agenda is for the sake of money in the campaign this could be the reason why they get stuck up in their rank. They now focused with the merits to rank up and they did not focus with their journey through out learning. Ive seen some new accounts starts from zero and now seen them like a 100+ merit because of the quality of knowledge they bring and share in the community.

Newbies just need to be patient with the process and grow up accordingly and not in a haste. They need to gain more knowledge of how the platform work to properly add value to themselves and to the platform in meaningful contributions and activities. It is not a day work neither is there any magic to be done but rather a process that involves members to utilise their skills and efforts to make sure the bring whatever good knowledge they know best here for other members to also learn from.

Because their is no way a real newbie will be that desperate in getting merits instead of concentrating on learning and gaining knowledge since that's was he's initial purpose of joining the forum. Yes, I think I can agree with you. I was a member of many other online forums but there are no such problems there, at least not as much as on this forum. There are also members on other forums who spam but for different reasons, because they promote some of their services or programs. However, no one needs to create alt accounts because there is no reason for that. This forum is different because of signature campaigns and just as signature campaigns are a blessing for this forum, they have also become a big problem. In general, the tendency in recent years is for people to leave Internet forums and use social networks much more for socializing and exchanging experiences and AI tools for searching for answers. On this forum, we also see a significant decline in activity in recent years, but this has been significantly reduced due to the possibility of monetizing membership on this forum through signature campaigns. However, on the other hand, this has also created a big problem for this forum because for some members, this forum has stopped being fun, socializing around common interests and has become the main source of income and financial survival. Of course, creating more alt accounts on the forum increases income. The result is a decline in the quality of discussions on this forum and many new members who have become desperate and want to progress on the forum as quickly as possible so they can start making money on this forum. That is why this new initiative, sigban, was created, which aims to eliminate spam on this forum that is directly related to signature campaigns. I don't think it will work because for every sigban, 2 new accounts will be created on this forum, and the begging for merit, publicly in threads and through private messages, will inevitably continue, simply because of the nature of this forum and the opportunity to make money, which has become a magnet for many people who actually have little to do with crypto. I think the admins should simply further restrict the rights of new members, newbie, preventing them from sending private messages, creating threads, etc. at least for the first few months.

I don't think it will work because for every sigban, 2 new accounts will be created on this forum,
They (account farmers) are already crying as we speak. Do you know what it takes to create or build up an account to the rank of a full member position? This is the best decision ever that admin took so far. And the present person carrying out the Job is just too perfect for it. and the begging for merit, publicly in threads and through private messages, will inevitably continue, simply because of the nature of this forum and the opportunity to make money, which has become a magnet for many people who actually have little to do with crypto.
I think here is where collective effort comes in. If members can be able to report such actions to the adequate place or authorities, I believe it will reduce significantly. I think the admins should simply further restrict the rights of new members, newbie, preventing them from sending private messages, creating threads, etc. at least for the first few months.
That's left for them (authorities) to decide, but if you ask me I will say the current signban is telling so much on farmers and in few months from now the forum will be clean once again.

Merit is actually a reward of your quality contributions in the bitcointalk forum, and is not earned by begging for it, but earned by your input in the forum. More also, it is also stated on the section of what newbies should know while they are present here, or the section we call forum rules, and attempt to violate this rules will lead to penalty on the forum. It is necessary for newbies to acquaint themselves with the forum rules because is a guide that enables you to make your contributions, and earn merit accordingly
As a newbie, merit is very important for you to grow in the forum, but you don't have to be desperate about it, instead focus more on learning, and making meaningful contributions, and you will surely earn merits.

Aside from them just looking for a means to earn merit instead of learning, how will someone who is also purely new be able to identify a member who is a merit source to send a pm to him and not just some random person, which is also another way to look at it and conclude that such an action can only be carried out by someone who is familiar with the forum and not a total stranger.

Yes, I know very well how much time and effort it takes to reach a certain rank on this forum and gain a certain reputation. I've been a member on this forum for 12 years and I've been through it all myself. However, I'm not sure that signban is the best decision by the admin. Honestly, we're talking about a bitcoin forum here, right? If the admins don't want spam in other sections of the forum like gambling, political discussions, offtopic, etc. there's a much easier way to solve it without this unnecessary drama today and that's to simply remove all these sections from the forum, right? In fact, many members report a newbie for begging for merits, through private messages, but as long as there is a possibility to monetize your account on this forum through signature campaigns, new accounts will be created, often from the same members, who will continue to beg for merits, and I don't see that ever stopping. I think you're overly optimistic that signban will solve spam on this forum but as you said, we'll see in a few months. I don't think it will change anything, except that we will have more members without signatures who spam the forum and that's all.

Perhaps, they're actually not new members just as they appear to be, majority will be people's alt which is crazy. Because their is no way a real newbie will be that desperate in getting merits instead of concentrating on learning and gaining knowledge since that's was he's initial purpose of joining the forum.
It’s very obvious that those newbies who usually send PM asking for merits are alt accounts because how would a newbie be so conservant with the merit system and the merit sources when they just got into the forum newly. Most people just put themselves into a mess that they could sit down and reason it out,the forum is completely against hunting of merits so whatever approach that seems like you’re hunting for merits should be avoided in other to keep your account free from negative tags, most experienced users especially the merit sources can go as far as giving you a negative tag while others might just ignore your account. So it better you allow your merits come naturally than getting yourself into trouble.

i dont report merit seeking PMs but i do add them to my ignore list.
Newbies usually do this and I receive several pms from them. Also I don't ignore them, but rather give them some piece of advice about what are better things to do to increase their chance to earn some merits. Maybe from that they could learn something from me. Hard to assume that they are alt accounts, since if they already have experience using this forum for sure they would know doing such act will give them less chances to earn merit and most provably lots of people will report that they are begging for merits. Maybe no one guide them that's why they think merit begging is fine. But for newbies which could read the running discussion here, for sure that they would know doing such act is not really good decision to do.

You are doing the right thing. Because a brand new user would basically do such things. An experienced user probably wouldn't do such things. Because experienced users know that doing these things can lead to negative tags. So it's okay to ignore new users for these initial mistakes, reporting them can be a sign of more severity. Perhaps, they're actually not new members just as they appear to be, majority will be people's alt which is crazy. Because their is no way a real newbie will be that desperate in getting merits instead of concentrating on learning and gaining knowledge since that's was he's initial purpose of joining the forum.

The merit system is not a secret at all. Even a brand new person who has been on this forum for 6-7 days and tries to understand it carefully, I think it is not difficult for him to know the merit system in the merit forum. If they have read the pinned threads, then they will understand the merit system. And when newbies start, they read the pinned threads, although some people may not. But you are right that if they try to find merit, then their account can be negatively affected. And even though we know these things, newbies often do not know. That is why they ask for such merit. If it is an old or alt account, then he will be experienced and an experienced user will never behave like this.

Removing all the sections in Bitcoin talk you say? I think I'm a bit lost there, maybe you can through more light there for me to get you right. In fact, many members report a newbie for begging for merits, through private messages, but as long as there is a possibility to monetize your account on this forum through signature campaigns, new accounts will be created, often from the same members, who will continue to beg for merits, and I don't see that ever stopping. I think with the present situation on ground now many nonsense (shit posting, begging if merit, ai post etc) will stop or probably reduce significantly for the benefit of the forum. Newbies usually do this and I receive several pms from them. Also I don't ignore them, but rather give them some piece of advice about what are better things to do to increase their chance to earn some merits.

That's very kind of you. But not all of them might take your advice, some may want to turn a deaf ear till they finally fall into trouble before they will learn the hard way.
