Many people don't mind paying taxes because it is their civic responsibilities to help generate funds for their governments so there would be smooth running in their economy, without money there is no how a government can function effectively. If a government is running their economy very well where social amenities and security would be working very well and I'm sure that income earners would be happy to be a part of it by doing the needful.

But this is not obtainable in many countries where corrupt politicians embezzles public funds to the extent that it is obvious to everybody, you don't expect people to pay taxes from their hard earned money in a dilapidated economy because of neglect as a result of corruption. Sadly in these types of economies no matter the amount of taxes and foreign aids that they get the economy will continue to be worse off.
Well, I do think it’s fine for us to continue paying taxes to the government. as long as the government is trustworthy enough to manage those taxes to develop the country and help its own citizens. But in reality, even though 100% of the taxes go to the government, I doubt that even 50% of them are returned to the public, whether in the form of infrastructure or anything else that benefits the people.

But in my country, the government would actually still be able to help its people if it could truly manage the available natural resources effectively. In my country, we have gold, nickel, coal, petroleum, and many other resources that the government could utilize as sources of revenue. But I don’t know what’s gone wrong, because of the current situation, we’re actually facing tax hikes. I think similar things might be happening in other countries as well.

Still, I remain grateful and thankful to the government in my country. Here, education from elementary school through high school is completely free. Healthcare and medical treatment are also free. So, yes, I’m still proud of my country, even though there are certainly some complaints.

The inflation rate in my country is also fairly stable, In June 2026, it was recorded at just 3.34%.

Honestly speaking the issue of tax in our country is something that we have serious concern about, because the way things are going well for other countries is mind blowing, this have giving me more confidence to ask about our tax money, because our tax is being paid consistently with know delay. We never care to know what it was used for, I want to heard from our president saying that our tax will be used to pay back our debt.

Why this is so annoying was because even the money that was borrowed cannot be accounted for by our government, in this case, who will be happy hearing the number one citizen saying that our tax money will be used to pay back loan. The loan we no nothing about while the other nations are using it positively for the tax payers. Honestly, I'm among the people that hate tax because we don't see any benefit from it.

Yes, I support your opinion. I also think that the citizens of a country do not hate taxes, but one of the reasons for their reluctance to pay is that the taxes they pay are not used for the development of the country, but are turned into personal wealth by the high-ranking officials and employees of the government. I think that if the government used the people's tax money properly in the right place, then people would be enthusiastic about paying taxes. When a taxpayer sees that the tax money he pays is not being used for the development of the country but for personal development, he loses the desire to pay taxes.

To be honest, it cannot be tolerated anymore in my home town. We're overtaxed and yet, we're underserved. From the salary, there's income taxes, from buying necessities there's the value added tax. From buying a house, there's a tax for the buyer which is the real estate tax where we're required to pay yearly. And the same goes for the seller, they're required to pay the capital gains, doc stamps and other taxes. Whatever we do in this country, we're all taxed but all of it goes through the pocket of the politicians through their allocation for budgeting either for their districts or sector that they represent.

From the beginning it was not from the tax complaints we come from but from the treatment of the government after they get the taxes we pay which sometimes this is always a situation where we actually feel that Regret Paying Taxes is always felt.

But it is not all like that except for countries that are indeed underdeveloped or those in developing countries who will always feel this way where the taxes we pay are not proportional to the feedback we feel in life.

If in the end a good reciprocity from the government in accordance with the taxes that we spend then actually things like this can be minimized and we will not complain about tax pemabyaran but when this is not comparable where our obligations in paying taxes but not accompanied by the rights that we should get from the government then complaints about tax problems will always exist.

To think that there are those that are so arms open and welcoming of taxe is absurd. I’m not from a national were taxes are levied to the later bit reserved for civil servants and business owners with a little on entrepreneurs but, once you are in the system, you become unsatisfied with the way these taxes are levied and used.
This is the real reason why you would constantly find citizens doing their most to find loopholes in the system to avoid paying taxes or at least not pay the full amount.

We however can’t overestimate the necessity of it for a stable society, it’s what fuels the government to function.

You pay taxes. You believe over half is lost in transit from collection to public good. Your country has gigantic mineral resources which ought not to require any additional taxes. But your ending is gratitude. Free basic education and basic social services is not a gift. They stand as the bare minimum output of any state with a tax base. However, so many governments don't even provide this, and the ones that do are regarded as being “generous” with this.

There is a well-established tendency for countries with extractable resources to have poorer governance outcomes than countries with virtually no resources. Resource financed governments have a buffer. The funds originate from the ground, pass through state-owned or state-affiliated organisations. And by the time citizens ask where it went the trail is cold. Your country has gold, nickel, coal, petroleum, and you're getting tax hikes.

Most people can tolerate taxes because they understand governments need revenue which is understandable.

What really frustrates them is realizing that no matter how hard they work, their salary keeps losing the race against real life. You get a small raise and for one moment it feels like progress… then rent increases, food gets more expensive, transport goes up, and suddenly that raise means almost nothing again.

That’s why many people today are earning more money than they did years ago, yet somehow still feel very financially weaker.

If you come to think of it, I believe the biggest part of it is psychologcal. People can tolerate paying into a system when they believe hard work will eventually create stability but once salaries stop translating into actual progress, frustration quietly starts building.

That’s also why more people are moving beyond traditonal saving and looking for assets they believe can protect value long term because many no longer trust income alone to keep up.

What's your opinion
As a citizen of a country, paying taxes is an obligation that shouldn't be negotiable.  Since it's from money generated through tax and that of internally generated revenue that is been used for the country's development. However, when it comes to high cost of living and inflation, all that is also caused by government, due to their inability to over proper financial decision making, and all they need to do is just ensure that effective policies that will favour the general public is been made and ensure it's implemented fully. As that's the only way a country that ones had inflation and hardship can strive again. Secondly, instability and inflation is the major reason why ove their money from fiat, but when it comes to which asset offers the best long term profitable investment plan, Bitcoin is the perfect option.

Citizens need to know and to see a verifiable impact of their tax in the service rendered by the government for them to trust the tax system, I align with you that government corruption and citizens lack of trust for the system is the reason why most citizens avoid tax payment, sometimes you pay tax to the wrong collectors, that is how worst things have gone with some countries tax system e.g my country is a good example of that failed tax regime.

I don't know how the system works for other nations, but based on my own observation our tax money is not being used properly, we all know that other nation make it public for people to see where they are tax money are going to, and this alone will allow taxpayers to continue to pay their tax since they have seen what it is used for. You're absolutely correct some citizens dodge tax payment simply because they did not see how is been used. In the issue of this tax I expect the government should be transparent so that the Citizens can be aware of where their money is going to, if every government can account for this, honestly the citizen will have so much confidence in their regime.

It's because there's no choice and we have to embrace those taxes even if we're underserved and we're heavily taxed in almost everything that we do.

This is the real reason why you would constantly find citizens doing their most to find loopholes in the system to avoid paying taxes or at least not pay the full amount.

We however can’t overestimate the necessity of it for a stable society, it’s what fuels the government to function.
And guess what who are those able to spot on those tax loopholes? it is the rich, the wealthiest people who are aware of the loopholes to become tax-free or to reduce their tax obligations. One way is to let their money flow through the foundations, they're tax exempt and them as the founders, ceos or board members of it grants them that incentive from paying more taxes.

I do not think anyone hate taxes, why some country citizens frown at taxes is because the government of their country are not doing anythjg with the tax payers money, in the developed nation where taxes are being accounted for, people can see for themselves how the system works, taxes are been collected and utilized very well by the government, majority of the citizens from those countries are doing a better job because the Government create good environment for investors to come and do their business, jobs are been created by these investors which will help in lessening the burden for the government, economy will boom as a result of this, I do not think that majority of my country men and women will want to pay tax because nothing is been done with the money, infact our leaders will prefer to loot the taxes been paid by citizens than using it for development, and if I should ask, where will an unemployed person get money to pay tax from.
You made a very good point here which I think is the obvious truth. Tax is mostly frown at in my country because the money is used for self enrichment instead of using it to provide social amenities. I will always want to pay tax if my government can provide job for me and make the cost of living lower, but in a country where their is no job anywhere, the cost of living is trying to kill the living, and you manages to open a small business to support yourself and your family, you can and will never be happy paying tax from that business when you know how difficult it was to raise that money for that business.

And in addition to that, the tax is on the higher side, while the cost of crude products are neck breaking which to an extent affect the revenue you get from your business, so you can never be happy paying tax in such a situation.

Having multiple source of income have several advantages, but despite everything it is very important to prioritise your health over everything. The reason why most people hate taxes is because they might be thinking that, they could use that money for something tangible, significant, reasonable and beneficial. Since paying tax is mandatory, for an individual not to feel so heavy after taxes has been deducted from their salaries, the best solution is to find multiple sources of income. But you don't have to engage yourself in hard labour, just to ensure that you are physically, mentally, socially, spiritually, emotionally and psychologically fit.

People will definitely like to pay taxes because without taxes, the government of any country cannot run the country properly. But there are definitely differences of opinion about paying taxes. Many people think that the government of their country has not set the right taxes or that the lives of the common people are in trouble due to the inefficiency and corruption of the government. This situation can actually make paying taxes very complicated. If the government of a country is involved in corruption, then it can create a worse situation. Because that government will print more money to protect their interests and put it on the shoulders of the people. If taxes are increased for the people of those countries, it will never be good decision.

I don't know how the system works for other nations, but based on my own observation our tax money is not being used properly, we all
know that other nation make it public for people to see where they are tax money are going to, and this alone will allow taxpayers to continue to pay their tax since they have seen what it is used for. You're absolutely correct some citizens dodge tax payment simply because they did not see how is been used. In the issue of this tax I expect the government should be transparent so that the Citizens can be aware of where their money is going to, if every government can account for this, honestly the citizen will have so much confidence in their regime.

The pain of watching our tax money being wasted on irrelevant things is heartbreaking. Someone will find it hard to get a job, when he does find one luckily, he will pay tax from his hard earned money. Now that person will believe that the money he is paying will benefit him in the future. But no , a lot these corrupt governments dont care, as long as they are using the money for their own personal interest.  There's nothing good to write home about the taxes we pay.

Tbh there's nothing wrong in paying taxes, because from it  we expect better roads, quality schools, functional hospitals, stable electricity, clean water, security, and job opportunities.  If these were to happen, citizens will happily pay up their taxes without much complaint.

No government can function without taxation,  it's a contribution of people to the government for a common benefit,  if tax is well utilized the people will pay more to benefit more, but in a situation where the tax payers enjoy the tax and the government is not accountable,  tha tax player won't he happy to pay more tax, they will find a way to avoid tax.

If the government want more tax, they should be accountable,  by providing social amenities to the people,  make the people happy , by so doing the people will find mo reason not to pay tax.  In my country tax is used to enrich the politicians, they embezzled tax funds and give the people nothing to enjoy,  no body is happy paying tax in Nigeria.

Believe it or not, in today's world, only those who have complete financial stability and aren't worried about what they are going to do tomorrow even if today is taken care of. I'm talking about those who earn a lot of money by any means known to them, they have enough money saved that they know even if they don't work, they will still not face any problems. Such are the people who can stay physically, mentally, socially, and psychologically fit at all times, because they aren't stressed out about even the basic things or necessities of life, they aren't struggling all day long only to get enough money to feed their family at least twice a day.

The reason why people hate taxes is because they work so hard to earn the money, and then from that money, government takes a good percentage, but that still is not the problem, the problem is that the government then does nothing in return for such people. Just like all others are saying, it seems the reason for everyone who hate taxes is the same, and it is that the government takes taxes from the people, but do nothing for them, instead, they use the money to fill their own pockets.

I believe you are talking about Nigeria. The taxes generated are not shown to the public, but reports are done, and audits are carried out to confirm how the money gets to the government, and you often see reports on websites so everyone can know the development on taxes, the public raises that money, and they need to know and for them to be reassured, the money are put back to the economy through various system, like the Nigeria governmet gives some FAAC allocation monthly to states government.

The nigeria problem is not raising taxes, in fact the tax generated over the last years has been the biggest since the country existed but the problem is the government give back to the economy doesn't benefits the economy because of some people that have decided to use the money for their personal gains, the corruption is killing everything you can think of in the country.
