Individual taxes generates the highest revenue for the government which means that a goverment cannot really function effectively if taxes are not paid. Of course we all hated taxes at first but then again, we need the government to keep running. Public services and public sector workers depends on taxes because it is from the revenue that is being generated that the government can be able to pay public workers and also execute projects. Paying taxes is not bad but the problem is when the government fails to push those revenues to the appropriate quarters. It is not easy to pay taxes from the small money that we earn so the government should not inflate taxes.

This is true as the OP is speaking from a different point of view that most people are not used to and that is the government are not making good use of tax payers money well. Instead they use it to push their own agenda and that is something the society does not like. We have to start holding the government more accountable for how they spend tax money and if we do that more often then we will begin to get more clear explanations on how the money is being spent and also the government will prioritize building infrastructure over aiding wars that are crimes against humanity. Most people hate paying taxes and they are just doing it because it is a crime not to do it and if the government does not change then more people will begin to default.

Taxes lets say in Indonesia, are such a dilemma. You as people just want to support the people who need subsidy, who need a new shcool, medicine, road and bridges but somehow some people in the government a ministry or people in Parliament just buy new fancy stuff to show em in public like new Range Rover, Maybach or fancy office

Corruption in the other hand just keep spreading like cancer.

This situation is not limited to Indonesia. Same situation also happen in other countries where the citizens see their government officials to suddenly increase their wealth just after a few years in service. Instead of using the tax to having a better infrastructures, flood control projects, having a better healthcare, more education programs, and other kind of government projects to grow the economy for the better of the country, what seems to grow more is their own assets.

That is what really frustrates the people, after working hard and pay the right amount of tax, you expect to receive the public service you deserve. But in the end, nothing has changed, while the people continue to suffer, politicians become wealthy over time.

True talk, when you are being taxed, instead of the funds to be used on basic amenities and further development of the country to benefit the citizens, being the taxpayers, it is been looted by those in power that act as if they meant well for the country, and how do anyone expect not to grudge, everyone wants to see what they are paying for, we have countries where their government does not even do project talk more of calling it projects of less priority according to you, some under developed countries are facing the government as broad day light criminals that converts public funds to personals use.

There are a couple of reasons why i think people might hate taxes.

For me personally,

1. Unfair tax rates
2. Unfriendly tax policies
3. Less accountability or transparency

I'm gonna explain why I think like this. First of all, the taxes are already high enough here (generally speaking). People are struggling and their backs have already touched the wall, and yet u are again making a yearly budget that would hold its citizens by the throat! Our life ain't getting any better, nor our income, but all other things have increased in prices, even the most necessary ones. The policy makers r like set on a quest to who can set the highest taxes.

Now imagine another scenario where you want to buy a bike for transportation! Now how does that work out? They are either imported (already taxed there), or locally manufactured, and then when you go to the showroom, you again need to pay tax from your part, do license papers and all those things, and then comes the road tax which we need to do every couple of years (maybe 2 the last I remember). Remember, from importing to acquiring/buying, there were already several layers of different taxes. Now they are introducing AIT (advance income Tax) on your bike based on its CC or engine. I mean WTF. I know, I know, it might also exists in other parts of the world, but this particular tax doesn't make any sense to me at all. All i understood, even if you don't use your bike, if you own one, you have to pay. This is what I was referring to as an unfair tax policy. I donno, it's a really confusing one.

And my last reason is that tthere is no accountability. We don't know where our hard earned money is being spent. There are supposed to be developments, but all I keep seeing are developments in politicians pockets (we the people have seen enough corruption in our life to say this publicly), not our life not out country. That's why many of us don't trust the government at all. They totally failed to keep their words. We have enough fuel, don't worry, the next the no fuel. We won't increase electricity prices, the next day, news comes electricity prices are up. Who r we supposed to believe then!

Everything i said above is from a general point of view coming from my place. Life here is hard, man! Many are just surviving this harsh life, not really living it.

That is where the majority of government revenue comes from, and this is all part of the reason why people are upset with the government for not doing exactly what they are supposed to be doing because, as of this morning, they are supposed to be used properly and many things depend on taxes in order for the country to function. We are irritated by a lot of tax mismanagement, and we need to learn the proper way to pay taxes because failing to do so is punishable by law. To say alarming remark and I think very cringe worthy story, last Ied holiday, i meet one of my distant relative, during our conversation they bragging about their child being accepted into the Directorate General of Taxes, which they view as a guarantee of success or wealth (as if to say it is an open secret that working as taxes official is green field) and their close relative looked envious and agreed. I am very shocked, how could be i meet people or social environtment which consider wealth obtained through abuse of position to be something to be proud of

So i think Indonesia has tax morale emergency situation. Many people in our country starting seeing corruption not a moral deviation, but a symbol of economic success. When society or small community accept small corruption, corruption growing bigger braver and more chaotic. For long term it can cause the norm of fairness has been compromised. Which the phenomenon we see nowdays many family think economic success is more important than integrity. For me since long time ago, I no longer believe that tax system in Indonesia is fair. Hates taxes not the most dangerous situation but when people start thinking that honesty make them poor while corruption are normal option for being rich and society not only accept it, they also celebrate it.

You're are addressing two different issues in one. Your topic could have followed suit. You talked about taxation and jumped to inflation. Both are different.

For your taxation, nobody hates taxes. They only do when they are not seeing their taxes out to good use. Instead, it is either stolen or spent anyhow. That raises alarm to them and they protest. But in a country where their taxes are used to build roads, schools and institute of training skills. I see no reason why they will complain.

For your inflation. Your tax can fit in here. Imaging me paying tax and the tax gets higher and my income is not matching me paying tax. And then inflation is eating me up. That is not good to the citizens. Slowly and surely, the purchasing power of that country will reduce very well.

  I'm certain they hate the effect of taxes to discourage and suppress the normal business of the economy so that its better to employ people abroad away from these negative effects and merely import the goods instead.
