Bitcointalk Helper Suite: A Small [Userscript] to Make Forum Browsing Easier

Hello everyone,

I made a small userscript for Bitcointalk that adds some useful features for daily forum browsing. It only adds some helper buttons and display options inside your own browser.
The main goal is to make reading, copying, scrolling, and sharing posts easier, especially for users who browse long topics or use Bitcointalk from mobile. You can enable or disable each option from a small floating settings button.

How it works

After installing the script and opening Bitcointalk, you will see a floating ⚡️ button on the page.
Click that button and a settings panel will open. From there, you can turn each feature on or off.

Features included

1. Copy Code Button:This adds a Copy button above code boxes.When you click it, only the text inside the code box will be copied. This is useful because sometimes when copying from a code box, extra page text may also get copied.
2. Copy Post Link Button: This adds a small Link button to posts. When you click it, the direct link to that specific post/reply will be copied. This makes it easier to share a particular reply without manually looking for the post link.
3. Collapse Long Quotes: Sometimes long quoted replies make a topic harder to read. This option automatically collapses very long quotes. You can click the collapsed quote area to expand it again.
4. Back to Top Button: This adds a floating ↑ button. Clicking it quickly takes you back to the top of the page.
5. Go to Bottom Button: This adds a floating ↓ button. Clicking it takes you directly to the bottom of the page. This is useful in long topics when you want to reach the latest replies quickly.
6. Hide Signatures: This option hides user signatures from posts. It is useful if you want a cleaner reading experience or if you want to reduce visual clutter while reading.
7. Hide Avatars: This option hides user avatars in posts. Important note: this option only works when you manually check it in the settings panel. If it is unchecked, avatars will stay visible.
8. External Link Warning: This option shows a confirmation warning before opening links that go outside Bitcointalk. It can help prevent accidentally opening unknown external links.
9. Dark Mode: This adds a dark theme to Bitcointalk. It changes the forum background, text, quotes, code boxes, input boxes, and links to a darker style. Images are kept readable as much as possible.

Also added 10. Button Color, Button Text Color, Button Size and Font Size. This is useful for mobile users or anyone who wants the post text to be easier to read. I didn't add whole scrip off option because we can off a script from tampermonkey.

How to install on desktop

1. Install Tampermonkey extension in your browser.
2. Go to chrome://extensions/ click Details in Tampermonkey> scroll down and Allow User Scripts [on]
3. Go to Greasyfork and click [install this script] then install
6. Open or refresh Bitcointalk.
7. Click the floating ⚡️ button.
8. Enable or disable the options you want.

How to install on Android / phone

You need a browser that supports userscripts. For example:

• Kiwi Browser + Tampermonkey
• mises Browser + Tampermonkey
• Any other Android browser that supports userscript extensions

Steps:
1. Install Tampermonkey extension in your browser.
2.  Go to extension
3. Turn developer Mode [ON]
4. Go to Greasyfork and click [install this script] then install
6. Open Bitcointalk and refresh.
7. Tap the floating ⚡️ button.
8. Choose the options you want.

The mobile version is adjusted so the settings panel fits better on small screens. desktop and mobile version is deffrent Some options are enabled by default, while others are disabled..

Privacy note
The script does not collect data and does not send anything to any server. It only stores your settings in your browser local storage, so your chosen options remain saved after refreshing the page.

Thumbs up for the effort you actually put into creating this extension. Nevertheless some of the features you added are already embedded in the forum like removing signatures I think avatars too but I'm not very sure about that. I think the one that could come in handy the most is actually the copy code button.

You should consider adding a couple other features to the extension to future increase the versitililty of it's use. The external link warning is also interesting since that originally only happens with newbies.

With me, it looks like an extension rather than a user script.

From your introduction, I see many functions are from available userscripts so I am unsure there is any new functions from your extension compares to two available ones from mrvuit and yhiaali3.

A very handy work you have done here with this script. I have been looking on how to implement codes that will help fix one or two in the forum that I often time see as challenge to me, but I find it difficult to which tool can be used, now I see the Tampermonkey. I'll try to get used to it the more, cause I made a code for copying signature codes, cause it is difficult to do so on mobile devices, gladly you have fixed that and seen that I have to install the code, which is very important to me at this point.

OP can you say did you use any AI tools in making this userscript?
If you did, than you need to give credits and say what exactly you used.
I am seriously thinking in suggesting new forum rule that states mandatory mention of AI tools used in any projects.

Hey OP, I just installed the script and everything seems to be working perfectly. The only thing I'm not quite seeing the use for is the Copy Code button. How can i use this? What I like most is the Collapse Long Quotes feature, It's actually very useful and makes reading long threads much easier. As for the other functions, they work fine but most of them can already be done manually on the forum without too much effort.

Thanks for mentioning me here in the thread.
Yes, I think most of the features are available in other extensions created by various forum users.
However, some things are missing from my extension, such as the "Copy Code" button, the "Copy Post Link" button, and the button to collapse long quotes.

But I suspect that many members prefer to use the forum without extensions because they may be afraid that they are unsafe or that there is a violation of privacy.

Nowadays we see so many helper userscripts/extensions like yours but no one seemed trying to make a tool exclusively for making bitcointalk mobile friendly. That's the only reason I still use a long forgotten extension to make my mobile experience a little more comforting. I hope programmer/developers like you will try to build something similar. As for this particular tool, I would say good job man. All these settings in one place is indeed helpful. Though some option are now obsolete imo, like the copy code button. Because it was recently added into the forum. So it's unnecessary to have it through an external userscript. Similarly, hide signature & avatar option is also available by default from the forum's setting.

I like that you have a good number of features, even if some of them are already available in settings (it seems redundant to need to toggle of avatars in settings for the user script to work). I'm also like that you're descriptive with how it works and included images to show how it displays.

You'll need to first find a post that has code tags added like this one and you should find a copy option at the top.

The userscript is very interesting. You have to be careful when integrating too many features into the code because you could make it user-unfriendly. I think you should make a post with recommendations that the user might need for their convenience, and keep the most voted or interesting ones, since I've made the same mistake of including something that the forum already has.
