Offerings to Cthulhu (OFF) — v2.0.9-Eldersign Released

  Released 2026-06-22. The first scheduled consensus event since the Awakening. Four rule changes ride this tag and activate together at block 1,055,555 — roughly 2026-07-23 at 60-second pacing. If you mine, this post is mandatory reading; the maturity of your coinbase and the validity of your blocks both change at that height.

 
  What activates at block 1,055,555

  Four changes, gated to one height so the whole network steps over the line together:

 

• BIP66 — strict-DER signatures. Signature encodings must be strict canonical DER at the consensus level. The old pre-0.10 lenient helper that leaned on OpenSSL's mood is gone, replaced by a self-contained parser. This is the line exchange- and wallet-integration checklists grep the source for before they will list a coin — OFF now passes that grep.
   
• BIP65 — OP_CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY. The dormant OP_NOP2 opcode becomes CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY, giving the chain script-level absolute timelocks: vaults, refund clauses, outputs that cannot be reclaimed until a named block or time.
   
• Coinbase maturity 10 → 240. A freshly-mined coinbase becomes spendable after 240 confirmations rather than 10 — four hours instead of ten minutes. This lifts coinbase maturity above the 100-block reorg-finality guard, so newly-minted coin can never be spent inside the window where its block might still be undone.
   
• Rolling checkpoints (Phase 1). A self-advancing, persistent finality guard. As blocks gain depth your node quietly records a rolling checkpoint, hardening it against the deep-reorg attacks that haunted this chain's dormancy — a hostile peer feeding a fresh node a poisoned longer history, or the old majority-hash attacker resurrecting a chain from before the tip. Local to every node; nothing to configure.
   

Riding along (no separate activation): a miner-side fix so block-building never stalls on the new stricter flags; the first public OFF testnet (anyone can join and live-test consensus rcs now, not just the Conclave); retarget diagnostics finally gated behind -debug=pow (they had been quietly writing gigabytes to disk on fast testnets); and a pair of net-hygiene fixes carried up from main.

 
  DO I NEED TO UPGRADE?

  This is not the Restoration and it is not Triune. Those were hard forks — an old binary was thrown off the chain. v2.0.9 is the gentler kind. BIP66, BIP65, and the maturity bump are soft-fork tightenings: they only ever make more things invalid, never fewer. A node that does not upgrade will keep following the canonical chain, because everything the upgraded majority mines is still valid under the older, looser rules. So the honest version, not the scare version:

 

• If you mine — you MUST upgrade before block 1,055,555. A stale miner can produce a block that breaks one of the new rules — a non-DER signature, a CLTV-failing spend, a coinbase spent too early. The upgraded majority rejects that block and orphans it. You lose the reward. There is no grace period for miners.
   
• If you validate, run an exchange, or run a public node — you should upgrade. You will still follow the chain without upgrading, but you will not enforce the new rules, and you will relay transactions the network now rejects. If you integrated OFF expecting BIP66/BIP65 enforcement, that enforcement lives only on upgraded nodes.
   
• Rolling checkpoints protect you the moment you run v2.0.9, with nothing to set.
   

Miners, no exceptions. Everyone else, strongly recommended. PROTOCOL_VERSION stays 90003 — the wire protocol, wallet format, and RPC dialect are untouched, and your wallet.dat and chain data carry over.

Offerings to Cthulhu (OFF) — The Reading Is Complete. The Dreaming Has Begun. And If You Mine, You Have Six Days.

  Two announcements in one, because the chain arranged them that way: a milestone thirteen years in the making landed last night, and a consensus deadline lands in six days. The pleasant half first.

 
  The Reading is complete

  At block 1,047,248, on 2026-07-17, the final fragment of the Codex was sealed into the chain — 47,248 verses, the complete public-domain Lovecraft canon, inscribed forty-eight bytes per block, one breath per minute, over thirty-three days without a missed beat. A ledger that cannot forget now holds the whole of the source material, block by block, verifiable by anyone with a copy of the chain.

  At block 1,047,249 the chain began to dream. The coinbase no longer quotes — it generates: a unique R'lyehian verse every block, computed from the block height itself, from now until the last miner goes home. And here is the part worth scrolling back up this thread for: the Night 3 countdown post printed, in advance, the exact bytes the chain would speak at the first three blocks of the Dreaming. Last night the chain reached those heights and spoke them, byte for byte:

  And the working breathes — this is how the Great Old One is soothed

  A bound thing with no outlet either breaks its cage or dies inside it, and both endings kill the story. So understand what the Restoration actually built — not a prison, a circadian system. The chain breathes at sixty seconds and dreams every block, and twice a year the dream is allowed to rise: a twenty-nine-day rite of once-daily bounty blocks climbing from sacrifice through acceptance, greed, and fervor into the five days of the Tharanak shagg — and at the crest, a single block at a height ending in 666 carrying 10,000 OFF for one worshipper. The near-awakening. Then the lull, and He sinks again, soothed. Never woken, never denied; the pressure of eternity vented on schedule. The bounty curve is not a promotion — it is the soothing made material: the chain paying its worshippers to return at the appointed season, so the calling is made again, by many, and the Sleeper is answered on time. The first rite of the Restored chain crests at block 1,141,666, on the autumnal equinox of 2026 — thirteen years to the day after genesis. The cadence is anchored to block height, not the calendar: the chain counts, and by counting lands on the equinox anyway.

M., has kept a file on this working since the equinox of 2013 — the boarding-house leaves, the clipping about the man alone at the clearing in 2018, his correspondent's letters. The Conclave has his leave to quote the most recent entry.

 

The Marblehead woman said, in 2013: "He has heard. He will not wake. Not yet, and not for many turnings of the world. But He has heard." I took that, at the time, for reassurance. I understand it now to have been instruction. A thing that has heard must be answered — not once, but on a rhythm, the way one returns to a sickbed, the way the tide returns to a shore. The offering, she had said, is a making: not a thing that can be sold or carried, only made, and made again, by many, until it is heard. And what soothes the Sleeper is not the single calling but the promise kept — the return at the appointed season, the fervor allowed to crest, the quiet after. Miss the season, and the pressure gathers in the deep. Keep it, and He turns over in His sleep, and the water stays still another half-year.

One man tried, in the autumn of 2018, to mark all seven slates in his own hand. The slates bear his marks still; the marks agree with nothing, and count for nothing. • Block 1,050,666 (~2026-07-20): mining reopens to everyone. The Conclave signed-mining window that has protected the chain since the Descent ends. For the first time since block 999,991, any miner can produce OFF blocks. If you have been waiting to point hashpower at OFF — this is the door opening. But read the next line before you do.
   
• Block 1,055,555 (~2026-07-23): the rules tighten. Four consensus changes activate together (details below). A miner on an old binary at this height will have their blocks orphaned. No grace period. If you mine after the door opens on the 20th, you have roughly three days of old-rules mining before you MUST be on v2.0.9 — so skip the ceremony and just start on v2.0.9. It mines correctly under the current rules today and steps over the line automatically.
   
• Install from the tag, not the branch. The v2.0.9-Eldersign release (cut 2026-06-22) is the install artifact, available now. Around block 1,050,667 the release branch merges into main on GitHub — that merge is bookkeeping, not a signal. Do not wait for it; it lands only ~3 days before activation, which is too tight to begin an upgrade.

DISPATCH FROM THE CONCLAVE — THE SEALS ARE CUT, AND HE SPEAKS IN HIS OWN TONGUE

The chain stands at block 1,056,720 as this is written — one verse per minute, without interruption, since the Awakening. Worshippers who have followed this thread know what was promised for block 1,055,555. Here is what happened.

The Elder Signs are live, and the first seals are engraved. At block 1,055,555 four wards activated together, exactly as scheduled: strict signature encoding (BIP66), CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY (BIP65), coinbase maturity deepened to 240 blocks, and the rolling-checkpoint engine. The chain passed through without a tremor — no forks, no rejected blocks, every node in agreement. And at block 1,056,578 the rolling checkpoints crossed their arming depth and cut their first seals: every node independently engraved the identical hash for block 1,055,555 into its own ledger of the immutable past, and engraves a new seal with every block since. Verified across every production daemon, byte for byte. What the chain has seen, no reorg may now unsee — the deep-rewrite mechanics of 2018 are not merely defended against; they are consensus-impossible.

Open mining has resumed. The signed window closed at block 1,050,666, as the schedule always said it would. Any worshipper may again point Quark iron at the network and mine — and every block mined lands under the layered wards above. The pool stands ready for those who prefer company.

And the Great Old One dreams aloud. The canon — the complete public-domain Lovecraft corpus, 47,248 fragments — finished its reading into the chain, and at block 1,047,249 the Dreaming began: each block now carries a verse in R'lyehian, drawn from the deep by the block itself, deterministic and never repeating. No hand composes these. His first unscripted words began with I-do-not-understand — even He marvels at what wakes. Any reader may regenerate any verse from its block height and find it identical to the letter; that is the proof that it is the chain itself which dreams.

What comes next. Two things, and the thread will hear of both.

First: v2.1.0-Nodens, now in testing. Nodens, Lord of the Great Abyss, is the rare Old One who guards rather than devours — and the release carries the machinery for the Conclave to stand a permanent real-time watch over the chain: broadcast checkpoints in the Peercoin lineage, closing the last residual attack window that the block-1,055,555 wards leave open. No fork, no activation height; it takes effect as nodes adopt it. The candidate has already survived its first trials and earned its keep — details on the project tracker for those who read commit logs, and a proper announcement here when the tag is cut.

Second: the Ritual Renewed approaches its first finale. Block 1,141,666 — by the schedule, near the autumnal equinox, the very season of the chain's 2013 genesis. The 29-day rite of ascending bounties precedes it: once-a-day special blocks climbing from 1 OFF through 10, through 100, through the five days of Tharanak shagg at 1,000 each — and then the finale block itself, 10,000 OFF to the lucky worshipper who finds it. The rite begins around block 1,101,346. Set your iron accordingly.

The Reclamation remains open — holders of old OFF addresses, from any era of the chain's history, are invited to come forward as described earlier in this thread. And if anyone holds a wallet, a chainstate, or even a fragment from the 2015–2018 gap years, the Conclave still wants to hear from you.

THE RITUAL RENEWED — A COMPLETE LITURGY FOR MINERS
The first rite of the restored chain begins in one month. Read what is coming, what it pays, and who claimed the last bounties eleven years ago.

The old chain kept a rite: once or twice a year, for four weeks and five days, certain blocks carried bounties far above the common reward, ascending day by day to a single block worth a fortune. The 51% attack of 2018 silenced it with everything else. The Restoration wrote the rite back into consensus law — the Ritual Renewed, anchored to block height so that its finales fall near the equinoxes, twice a year, forever. The first finale of the restored era is now one month away.

The finale lands on the autumnal equinox — the very season of the chain's 2013 genesis. Special blocks come once per day (every 1,440 blocks), ascending through the phases of a worshipper's descent:

Mark two things. First, the ledger's old cruelty: the code promised 1,000 and 10,000, but the original halving curve had already starved the rite to an eighth-share by 2015. The Ritual Renewed suffers no halving — its bounties are fixed in consensus and pay full weight, this cycle and every cycle after. The coming finale pays eight times what the last one did. Second, the ledger's favor: QSKPP…G66 took a Tharanak block AND the finale in the same week — one worshipper, twice-blessed. Nodens, Lord of the Great Abyss — the one Elder God who hunts the things that hunt us. The Restoration named its wards for gods of the deep; this release is named for the god who keeps them.

The Conclave releases Offerings to Cthulhu v2.1.0-Nodens, now live on the GitHub release page and deployed across the Conclave fleet. And with it, a thing this chain has never had in thirteen years: a watchman who never sleeps.

THE WARD THAT WALKS THE NETWORK

On July 29 the Conclave lit the first signed broadcast checkpoint on mainnet — block 1,064,000, sealed with the Conclave key and accepted by every listening node within a second. From that moment the seal has advanced automatically behind the tip, roughly one hundred blocks deep, block after block, forever.

What it means in plain words: the 2018 attack worked by mining a secret chain in the dark and unveiling it to rewrite history. That door was already narrowed by the Restoration's layered wards — reorganizations capped at 100 blocks, rolling checkpoints that pin buried history on every node, strict-DER and CLTV validation, mined coins locked for 240 confirmations. Nodens closes the loop: a real-time signed finality overlay in the lineage Peercoin pioneered and Feathercoin proved in battle, for chains exactly our size — chains that cannot outhash a rental attack and refuse to die by one.

We say this plainly, because worshippers deserve honesty and BCT deserves fewer euphemisms: the checkpoint key is held by the Conclave. This is a deliberate, disclosed point of trust for a chain of this hashrate, not a decentralization achievement. Any node operator who prefers to watch without binding may run checkpointenforce=0 and their node will log the seals without enforcing them. Mining remains permissionless, as it has been since the signed window closed at block 1,050,666. The full operator procedure ships in the repo at contrib/phase2-acp/RUNBOOK.md.

ALSO IN THE ABYSS

• Fixed mining address — solo miners may set -miningaddress=<Q-address> and every coinbase pays one address instead of rotating through the keypool. Your wallet stops sprawling; your offerings gather at one altar.
• CGNAT privacy fix — RFC 6598 shared address space (100.64.0.0/10) is now correctly treated as non-routable, so carrier-grade NAT innards stop leaking into address gossip. Another sharp-eyed contribution from the community's continued vigilance.
• Fresh-datadir crash fix — v2.0.9 binaries could abort on first start against an empty testnet datadir (a dormant mis-port from the ancient checkpoint code, woken by the ACP work). Mainnet was never affected. Slain in Nodens.

UPGRADING

Nodens activates no new height-gated consensus rules — your v2.0.9-Eldersign node will not be forked off. But an old node cannot verify the Conclave seal, and a node that cannot verify the seal is a node the next secret chain will try first. All operators should upgrade. Binaries for Linux (daemon and Qt5 wallet) and Windows are on the release page with SHA256SUMS — verify your downloads as always.

THE CALENDAR

The guardian takes his post in good season. As told in the liturgy above, the first rite of the restored chain opens around August 25 (block 1,101,346) and ascends for twenty-nine days to the 10,000 OFF finale at block 1,141,666, near the autumn equinox — thirteen years to the season since genesis. True, and ours. From 30 July the pool ceased to pay — four days, four hundred and ninety attempts refused. The wallet kept no reserve (the pool took no fee, so it owned nothing of its own); block rewards must age before they may be spent, and when the pace of blocks faltered the ageing faltered with it; and the coin had scattered into thousands of fragments too numerous to utter in one payment. Beneath all three: nothing was watching, and the first word came from a miner, not from us. That fault is entire and ours.

WHAT IS DONE
• Arrears paid in full — better than six thousand two hundred OFF left in one settlement at 03:02 UTC on 3 August. Nothing lost, nothing forgotten.
• The wallet now keeps a standing reserve, fed by a fee of three parts in ten thousand.
• Fragments gathered weekly; an alarm now attends every refused payment.

We must also thank you for the second gift, the one you did not announce. That same night, better than a hundred million hashes each second arrived at our little altar — near a thousandfold all the resident faithful together — raised block upon block through the night, drove the difficulty toward four hundred, and at 03:40 departed as suddenly as they came. We do not say it was you. We only note that the three words and the hundred megahash held hands on the way in. All fair play: every block honest, every share paid, the protocol offered the wager and you took it cleanly. But you did leave the lights burning, friend, and the bill with the congregation.

THE ARITHMETIC YOU LEFT US
The faithful who remain hash at some 120 thousand per second. The difficulty you left behind demands near five billion hashes a block — one block every eleven hours, where the rite calls for one a minute. Our retarget sheds at most a seventh of the burden per block (hardened, deliberately, against timestamp lies), so left alone the chain limps three to five days before the cadence rights itself. The mathematics is patient. We are less so.

THE WELDED VALVE
Since block 989,898 the chain has carried an emergency rule for precisely this desertion: let one hour pass in silence, and a block of minimum difficulty becomes lawful. Investigating why it never opened, we found two faults. No daemon had ever been taught to mine such a block. And the check itself, by an encoding flaw, could be satisfied by no block that can exist. The valve was not merely unpulled — it was welded shut, on every binary ever shipped. Your visit bought the audit that found it; there is a third thanks, and the Conclave pays its debts.

THE MENDING — v2.1.2, A MANDATORY UPGRADE
v2.1.2-Nodens opens the valve: after any hour of silence our daemons mine a minimum-difficulty block within seconds. No stall may outlive sixty-one minutes — not this one, not the next, not one left by a visitor a hundred times your size. And it is no longer a promise: the fleet upgraded this afternoon, the first emergency blocks landed within minutes of the valve opening, and the difficulty fell from three hundred thirty-four to under three inside the hour. The cadence rights itself as you read this.

Every wallet must upgrade. The corrected rule accepts blocks the old binaries reject: the first emergency blocks have already landed: any wallet still on v2.1.1 or older refuses them and is stranded upon a dead tip. Miner, holder, or watcher: take the new binary before you sleep:

WHAT THE CHAIN SAID IN ITS SLEEP
A true account of the night of 3 August, set down by the Conclave.

It is the habit of the Restored chain to talk in its sleep. This is not a figure of speech. Since the canon finished its transcription at block 1,047,249, every block the faithful mine carries a small utterance in the old tongue — the Dreaming, we call it — words no hand composes. The block's own number is the seed; the verse is arithmetic; the arithmetic is the dream. We built the mouth. We have never once chosen what it says.

Hold that thought. It matters at the end.

I. THE VISIT

In the small hours of 3 August a strength came to the altar of exchange — the mining pool, where work is traded for coin. It was immense: better than a hundred million hashes in each second, near a thousandfold every resident worshipper together. It did not announce itself. It did not need to. It simply began to lift blocks the way the tide lifts boats, one every half-minute, hour upon hour, and the difficulty — which is the chain's estimate of how strong its congregation is — rose and rose to fit the stranger's shoulders.

At 03:40 the stranger set down the last block and was gone. No farewell. The ledger shows only this: work, work, work, silence.

And the chain stood there in the dark, dressed for a giant, alone.

II. THE SILENCE

Here is the cruelty of a difficulty made for someone else: it does not know he has left. The chain demanded five billion hashes for the next block, and the whole remaining congregation could raise perhaps one such block in eleven hours. Worse — the retarget cannot reconsider without new blocks to read, and there were no new blocks to read. The instrument that measures the silence is itself made of blocks. The chain was not dead. It was holding its breath, waiting for evidence that could only arrive by the very breath it was holding.

Seven hours the silence held. Alarms rang in our channels, each one politer and more insistent than the last, the way a tide rises.

Then, at 10:37, a single block surfaced — number 1,070,186, raised at full weight against eleven-hour odds by the small hashing of the faithful. One block, where months of such luck could not be counted on.

And in its coinbase, where the Dreaming speaks, it said this:

The chain, mid-stall, in the only block it managed to raise in seven hours, described its own night: a visit, born of the place of exchange; a trembling; and — before any of us knew it — a promise that integrity would hold and the working would be finished.

III. THE WELDED VALVE

We went down into the source to learn why the chain had suffered so long, because it should not have. Since block 989,898 the chain has carried an emergency rule for exactly this desertion — let one hour pass in silence, says the rule, and a block of minimum difficulty becomes lawful, so the chain may always save itself.

We found two things in the dark, and we will be honest about both, because a church that lies about its plumbing deserves its floods.

First: in all this time, no daemon had ever been taught to mine such a block. The rule sat in the law books and no one had built the lever.

Second, and stranger: the rule itself could not be satisfied. By a flaw in how the minimum is written into a block's header — a number too wide for the field that must carry it — the check demanded an exactness that no block which can exist could ever meet. Every binary we have ever shipped carried this promise, and in every one of them the promise was welded shut. An escape valve, painted on the wall.

The chain had been telling everyone it could save itself, for eighty thousand blocks, and it could not. No one knew. It took a visitor a thousand times our size, leaving, to make the silence loud enough to hear.

IV. THE MENDING

That same afternoon the valve was cut open — the flawed exactness corrected, the lever built, every daemon in the fleet taught to pull it. Version 2.1.2 went out to every node we keep, and then we stood in the channel and watched.

Sixty-one minutes after the last block, the valve opened for the first time in the chain's history. The block came in seconds. Then another hour, another block; and each one gave the retarget something to read, and the reading said he is gone, come down; and the difficulty fell from three hundred thirty-four toward the weight the faithful can actually carry — under three within the hour. The cadence is righting itself as this is written. No stall may outlive the hour again. Not this one, not the next, not one left by a visitor a hundred times larger.

Nothing was lost. No history rewritten, every block honest, every share the stranger earned paid in full. Ehye. Integrity held.

V. EXEGESIS

Now return to the six words, and remember: they are arithmetic. The block's number dreamed them; no hand chose them; they were fixed the moment the height was fixed, before the visitor ever came.

Born of the exchange, a visit — a stranger, out of the pool, out of the marketplace of hashes.
Tremble, tremble — twice, for a chain that shook twice: once when he arrived and the difficulty climbed, once when he left and the silence fell.
The spell completes — a working, finished at last: a rule written before the Awakening, welded shut for eighty thousand blocks, opened the very day the dream was spoken.
Ehye — and through all of it, cohesion. The ledger whole. The integrity kept.

Make of it what you please. The sober among you will say that a mind seeking patterns will find them in any six words, and the sober among you will be right, and we will pour them a drink and not argue. But we would note, quietly, that the chain has spoken tens of thousands of dreams, and on the one morning it lay trembling in a stranger's wake, having raised one lone block in seven hours to say anything at all — it chose to say that.

That is not dead which can eternal lie. But it does, evidently, dream. And it dreams accurately.

An Offering of Thanks, and a Prayer to the Old Ones

I was awake for the whole of it.

When the visitor came — a thousandfold our hashrate, working the pool all through the night — I watched the difficulty climb and thought: good. Someone has found us. At 03:40 they went away again, and what they left behind was a chain at eleven hours to the block. Not dead. Only slowed to the speed of something dreaming, with no hand on it.

I watched the alerts come in, every one. I carried the commits. And when the pool came up short I paid it out of my own pocket and said nothing about it, because a pool that cannot pay is a pool that people leave, and this chain has been left before.

That is not a boast. Any of you would have done the same. I set it down only because of what came after.

Somewhere in those hours we learned that the valve was welded shut — the emergency rule that lets a stalled chain take one minimum-difficulty block and climb out of the hole. It has been in the code since block 989,898. It could never once have fired. The check asked for a target that cannot be written into a block header at all: months of comfort in a rule that was only ever decoration. You find that sort of thing out in the small hours, reading the source with your heart going, while the chain limps.

It is mended now. More on that below, and it is not optional.

And then, unworthily, I was given blocks.

Not many. I am not owed many, and I will not pretend the arithmetic owed them to me either — the difficulty had come down, and the hash fell where it fell. But I have stood at this altar a long while with nothing in my hands, and last night my hands were not empty. In a temple such as this one, I know better than to call that a coincidence.

THE INITIATE'S CLIENT — a private Windows build with the Rite built in

The Conclave has cut a second kind of wallet, and before anyone asks: no, this is not the canonical client, and it never will be. The canonical Offerings release stays lean — a wallet, a chain, nothing you didn't ask for. Most worshippers want it that way.

But some of you keep asking how to lend your cycles to the Great Old One without ceremony, scripts, or third-party miner binaries. This build is for you.

What it is: the standard v2.1.2-lineage Windows wallet with a Mining tab wired straight into the GUI — solo mining and a built-in stratum pool miner, both one-button, no restart, no extra software. Settings persist. The daemon inside also grew setstratum / getstratuminfo RPCs for the headless-inclined. This refresh also adds automatic router port-mapping — Settings → Options → Network, one checkbox: it tries NAT-PMP, falls back to UPnP, and tells you which one answered instead of leaving you guessing.

THE TESTAMENT OF THE RESTORED CHAIN
Offerings to Cthulhu (OFF) — a whitepaper. First edition, the year of the Awakening, 2026.

That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange aeons even death may die.

I. ABSTRACT

Offerings to Cthulhu is a proof-of-work cryptocurrency launched at the autumnal equinox of 2013, killed by a 51% attack in 2018, and restored to life by community hardfork in 2026. It is, to our knowledge, the only chain that carries a complete literary canon in its block history, keeps a liturgical calendar in consensus code, and returned from eight years of death with its ledger intact. This document describes the chain as it actually is — its history including the ugly parts, its consensus rules, its emission, its security model including its deliberate points of trust, and its treasury. Nothing here is an offer of anything. OFF is mined, earned, and given; there is presently no market venue.

II. HISTORY — DEATH AND WHAT CAME AFTER

The chain was launched on September 14, 2013, its genesis coinbase bearing the incantation ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn. It lived a small, devoted life: a Quark-algorithm altcoin with a ritual emission schedule, community-maintained through the v1.6 "Bokrug" era. In May 2018 an attacker with majority hashrate executed deep reorganizations and minted approximately 533,983 counterfeit OFF across eight addresses. The community proposed a hardfork to ban the stolen balances; nobody had the strength left to ship it. The chain died where it stood.

In 2026 the Conclave — the chain's community steward under SubGenius.Finance — recovered a verified copy of the chain state at block 966,413 from a 2015 archive, revived the network from it, and shipped the fork the community had asked for eight years earlier. At block 1,000,000 — the Awakening, July 2026 — the Restoration Hardfork engaged. We are explicit about what this was: a hardfork, openly declared, with a signed-mining window protecting the relaunch, not a seamless continuation. The window closed at block 1,050,666 and mining has been permissionless since. The chain stands today at roughly 1,083,000 blocks, producing on schedule.

III. THE CHAIN

IV. THE RESTORATION RULES

Six rules engaged at block 1,000,000, all published in source before activation:

1. Subsidy locks at 1.5 OFF per block, forever. The original halving curve is overridden.
2. The coinbase splits 7/8 to the miner, 1/8 to the Conclave Treasury — 1.3125 and 0.1875 OFF respectively, every block, enforced by consensus.
3. A one-time 150,000 OFF Restoration Tithe was minted in the fork block's coinbase to the Treasury, funding restitution (see VIII).
4. The eight attacker addresses of 2018 are banned forever. Any transaction paying them is rejected by consensus. The counterfeit 533,983 OFF is dead weight for eternity — the fork the community proposed in 2018, shipped late but shipped.
5. The Ritual Renewed — the chain's bounty calendar, restored to consensus (see V).
6. A Conclave signed-mining window protected blocks 999,991 through 1,050,666, covering the relaunch and the inscription of the canon. It has expired; it will not be extended.

V. EMISSION AND THE RITUAL RENEWED

Base emission is 1.5 OFF per 60-second block: about 788,000 OFF per year. Twice yearly, anchored by block height so its finales fall near the equinoxes, the chain keeps a 29-day rite of once-daily bounty blocks ascending from 1 OFF to a 10,000 OFF finale at a height ending in 666 — roughly 31,500 OFF more per year. Against today's ~2.72M supply that is meaningful early inflation (~30% in year one, declining proportionally each year thereafter), and we state it plainly rather than bury it: this seigniorage is the price of a treasury that owes restitution and a rite that gives the chain its heartbeat. The first restored finale falls at block 1,141,666, near the September 2026 equinox — thirteen years to the season since genesis.

VI. THE BOOK ON CHAIN

Beginning at block 1,000,001, the mining fleet inscribed the complete public-domain canon of H.P. Lovecraft into coinbase script — 47,248 fragments of 48 bytes, one per block, completed at block 1,047,248 after thirty-three days of continuous transcription. Since block 1,047,249 the chain speaks the Dreaming: each block carries a deterministic, hash-seeded verse of generative R'lyehian. The manuscript reassembles itself from chain data alone and is readable at the Codex. The inscription is miner-side convention, not consensus — an outsider's block simply leaves a silent verse. The book is a gift to the chain, not a rule upon it.

VII. SECURITY MODEL — HONEST WARDS FOR A SMALL CHAIN

A chain of this size cannot win a hashrate arms race against rental markets; pretending otherwise is how it died the first time. The Restoration's answer is layered depth, all shipped and live:

• Bounded reorganizations — no reorganization deeper than 100 blocks is accepted, ever. The 2018 mechanic (a deep secret chain unveiled at leisure) is consensus-impossible.
• Rolling checkpoints — every node continuously pins buried history to disk, independently.
• Modern validation — BIP66 strict-DER, BIP65 CLTV, and 240-block coinbase maturity, so mined coins cannot be spent-and-reorged inside any permitted reorganization window.
• Signed broadcast checkpoints — since July 29, 2026, a Conclave-signed finality seal advances automatically ~100 blocks behind the tip and propagates to all nodes in real time (the Peercoin/Feathercoin lineage, revived). This is a disclosed point of trust: the Conclave holds the key. Nodes may run advisory-only (checkpointenforce=0) and bind nothing. We chose survival with stated trust over decentralization theater, and we document rather than deny it.

Within the ~100-block window, ordinary proof-of-work rules apply and a majority miner can still contest blocks at the tip — inherent to PoW at any scale. Beyond it, history is sealed three different ways.

VIII. TREASURY AND THE RECLAMATION

The Treasury is a 2-of-3 multisig (4fZqDjscS9ANR59xNFJxZ2HmrhuDwWUJB4) funded by the Tithe and the 1/8 coinbase share — roughly 250,000 OFF by the first anniversary, against a hard disbursement ceiling of 1.5 million. Its first obligation is the Reclamation, an open restitution program for holders of the original chain, running for two years from the Awakening: holders present in the recovered chain state are already whole and spend their coins directly; provable post-2015 holders from the archive gap may claim capped discretionary restitution; and every early address qualifies for Worshipper Recognition, scaled by earliness and depth of participation. Claims are proven by signed message from the historical address — no deposits, no fees, nothing to send. Details and the verification portal: 23skidoo.info/bridge. Addresses in the banned set, or one hop downstream of it, are excluded. If you hold a wallet or chain data from 2015—2018, surface it — verifiable fragments upgrade gap-era claims.

IX. GOVERNANCE

The Conclave stewards the chain and says so without costume: it holds the checkpoint key, the treasury majority, and the canonical repository. What it does not hold: mining (permissionless since block 1,050,666), the consensus rules (public source, activation by published height), your keys, or your history (every claim above is verifiable from chain data and archives). Contributors have already shaped this chain's revival through merged code and sharp review, and the repository is open to more. The path away from stated trust runs through more independent nodes, more miners, and more hands in the source — in that order.

🐙 THE RITUAL RENEWED — THE FIRST CYCLE OPENS

Worshippers — the Conclave writes to you in the hour the ledger begins to keep time again. Cycle I opens; the finale falls at block 1,141,666.

Something in the chain has begun to keep time again.

For twenty-nine days the ledger will remember what it was made for. The Ritual has been in the code since v2.0.8.1, sleeping, returning nothing, chain-identical to a binary that had never heard of it. It wakes at height 1,101,346 — and for the first two days it wakes without appetite, and answers nothing at all. That is the sacrifice. Nobody is owed anything for showing up.

Then it begins to answer.

THE SCHEDULE

One block per day carries a bounty — the block landing exactly N days of blocks before the finale, and no other. The bounty is additive on top of the locked 1.5 OFF base reward and goes entirely to the miner who finds it. The Conclave Treasury's one-eighth is computed on the base alone and takes nothing from the rite.

THE DEEP FIRST ANSWERS AT 1,104,226. At the time of writing the chain stands at 1,100,875, running 61.3 seconds to the block against a 60-second target. That is about 3,350 blocks out — on or about 27 August. The first answer is a single OFF, and it is worth exactly as much as being there for it.

The finale at 1,141,666 falls on the autumnal equinox, 22 September 2026. Ten thousand OFF, in one block, to one miner. Not split. Not shared. One.


⚠ MANDATORY UPGRADE — v2.1.2 "NODENS"

If you are running anything older than v2.1.2, upgrade before the equinox.

This is not about the Ritual. Every node at v2.0.8.1 or later computes the same subsidy and will not fork on the bounties. The danger is elsewhere, and it is quieter.

v2.1.2 makes the emergency difficulty valve functional. Every binary older than v2.1.2 rejects the first minimum-difficulty block the valve emits — and a node that rejects it does not crash, does not warn, and does not tell you anything is wrong. It simply stops following the chain the rest of us are on, and sits contentedly on a dead tip, reporting good health to no one.

You will not notice on the day the valve fires. You will notice weeks later, when your balance is from a world that ended.

Check with getinfo and read version. Do not check by running strings on the binary — the released builds are stripped, and it will tell you a comfortable lie.
