What is the exact ledger model you have? To enter bootloader mode on the Ledger Nano S, press and hold the button near the USB slot. If this is your ledger unit model, it's possible that the button near the USB port is shorted or stuck.

However, if the button isn't stuck or not shorted, maybe the firmware from your ledger is corrupted or has an unfinished update. You have a similar case from this link below; try his method to reupdate your ledger.

There's an interesting stickied replied on this sub-reddit OP. Maybe you can try that first before thinking of buying a new one or any other solution.

As per the replies on that first reply, it seemed to work for the others as well and not just only for him.

Give it a try and see if that also works for you.

If you try the suggestion and it doesn't work for you and you desperately need to settle the customer, perhaps you should import the seed phrase into a new wallet and carry out the transaction.

Also, I'm not a fan of Ledger because of its lax security. For someone that holds such an amount, it won't be a bad idea to ditch it for a good hardware device like Trezor.

He can use Electrum on an airgapped device, import it there and use waych-only wallet to spend it. https://electrum.readthedocs.io/en/latest/coldstorage.html

If Ledger is the only existing hardware wallet, I can never use a hardware. There is nothing that can convince me to use such a wallet.

If by any chance it is a model S with very old firmware, then such a device cannot even be upgraded - in the past, such devices were replaced with new ones. Besides that, I remember that a lot of people had big problems with certain firmware in the past, including me, but that was a long time ago and it's only possible if the OP hasn't upgraded his device for more than 7-8 years.

As @Charles-Tim wrote, if the OP has his seed, he can very easily recover his wallet, he just needs to be careful not to download a fake wallet because it will empty itself, instantly.

Imho the safe way to go is a stick with Tails OS (which already contains electrum), used always and 100% without internet.
And the actual computer can contain a watch only wallet (made from master public key, not from seed, obviously!).
And yeah, one more stick for transferring tx information between the two for signing and then broadcasting.
It's a bit cumbersome with only one computer - one may have to enter the seed at least 2 times on Tails - plus some learning curve, but it can be done.

How do you expect anyone can help if you didn't even specify what device model you have?
Ledger is crap, but you don't have to worry if you have backup seed words written on paper.
I would suggest switching to Trezor or any other open source hardware wallet.

fixed it like 1 day after but forgot to post, i logged in with the seedphrase and managed to send the crypto to the guy before he misses his payments,

never used ledger ever again after that, why would they force customers to update and you cant even do it outside on your phone you have to go home to your pc to do it,

And which Ledger model do you have?
It would be great if you could share that information here so it can help someone else in the future who might have the same problem

But in any case, that’s one more user who won’t be using Ledger anymore
If you’re planning to buy a new wallet, consider a Trezor  Wink

You should never enter you seed phrase in your phone.

Every decent hardware wallet will force you to enter the seed on the device to recover your funds. If you ever enter your seed in your phone (for convenience), you can consider that seed exposed and unsafe to use. You must generate another one and move your funds.

Hey duke_otc,

I faced the same problem as you the other day (I have a Nano X since 2019). I turned on my Ledger after several months, there was an firmware update to do, and for the first time, I tried to update via Ledger Live Mobile. That's when the update took longer than expected, I aborted the operation, but it got stuck in bootloader mode. It had been a long time since I'd experienced this problem.

The only way to solve it was to try the update again through Ledger Live Desktop. I don't remember the steps or what appeared on the screen of the ledger live desktop (or ledger wallet they call now), but the update resumed or restarted. I don't know if the same stuck bootloader problem can happen with other models when trying to update, but since you don't intend to use the Ledger anymore, the Trezor would be the best option for you, since the number of complaints about Trezor compared to Ledger is much much lower.
hi, i was using a ledger nano x , i have a trezor since and i have to say its better im running the old version and its not forcing me to update ( i like hardware that cant force update because
if in a dystopian future theres an update that mandates kyc you cant avoid it for exemple)

but latter on i understood i can do it from an offline computer or more recently i found a cheaper way, get a very old android phone, put it online to download a basic wallet app, once its downloaded

remove the sim card or wifi completely, generate the wallet and seedphrase offline and once thats done properly destroy the phone in a way that its impossible to get any data out of it ,

and now you got one or multiple  perfectly airgaped wallet for about 10 dollars ( correct me if im wrong somewhere, would love to improve that method)
hey jones, same its a nano x looks like older ledgers before the ledger stack had a lot of issues, i even had another problem before that with the battery it just wouldnt charge anymore and could be used only plugged into a pc, i looked online and saw many peoples reporting the same issue but apparently ledger support sends a new free ledger if this happens, thankfully i didnt need it because somehow a few days latter
it started charging again. if this ever happens to you remember that you can get it replaced for free Smiley its going to happen sooner or later depending on if you use it a lot or rarely.

Hi Duke, I believe that creating your own air-gapped wallet from scratch can be harder than you might imagine, especially using an old phone (which isn't a device designed to be air-gapped). As an alternative, take a look at projects like Krux Wallet or SeedSigner, there's a lot of content about them here on the forum, do a search.

I'm also taking this opportunity to leave this guide focused on beginners about how to follow forum best practices, such as quoting people correctly so that the quote is highlighted: Bitcointalk posting etiquette
