Where do you draw the line between a calculated entrepreneurial risk and pure gambling? Would love to hear your thoughts, especially from those who have transitioned from gambling to running a business or vice versa!!!
Gambling is easy. Business is difficult, but only if it is a serious business. In gambling, you will never receive money directly, there will always be an intermediary between you and the money - a bookmaker or a casino. Yes, physical casinos are more reliable than online casinos, because they will definitely give you money and will not ask stupid questions about your documents. But only if you have state-owned casinos, which are not easy to find among countries. In online casinos, only large casinos are reliable, the rest are in doubt. In business, you will receive money directly, but there is one thing - it is difficult to get it. It's not just like making a deposit in an online casino. This is the recognition of demand and legal aspects. Between gambling and business, for me no one since to be that easier because as an entrepreneur that went to innovate into a large business, there are categories of things a business man needs to put in place in order to be a successful business man and like wise a gambler that deal on different kind of gambling sites, knows all that is involved when engaging fully to those gambling sites, and which a business man and gambler are both focusing on how to successful, since it involves staking and investing of money, so at such, i will summarize by saying that, gambling might be easier for you but it might look so difficult to any else and business might look difficult but there are people that business look so easy for, so as faces differ that is how grace is differ.

Staring a business and starting to gamble are not the same, the only way they can be the same is if you are going to run a casino business as a owner yourself.
Businesses have their risks too if this is what you are talking about but they are always minimal to gambling, you also don't have to battle with emotions and anxiety in your business.
Because there is no way you will handle gambling as a business without you wanting to make money every day, and this is where you will get trapped.
For me, both gambling and business involve uncertainty, risk, and the possibility of losing money despite making smart/good decisions, even let's say how much money you have or how smart a person you are. The only difference here is that in business, it gives you more opportunity to create value compared to gambling, which we all know involves luck, and most of it is usually designed to give you odds against you. That's why some people say, once you have already placed your bets, think of it, you already lost! Because if you win, that is already a luck

That's why some people say, once you have already placed your bets, think of it, you already lost! Because if you win, that is already a luck Life itself involves risk, but only calculated everything we do in life is all risk taking but at some point you realise that not everything is worth the risk. Gambling kind of risk is not something that would profit you on a long term scale. One minute you are up the next you are down. In most businesses the kind of losses they encounter cannot be compared to how much the made in a year average. Business produces returns for its investor, they have the opportunity to grow and expand. We cannot do all these in gambling. Gambling is more about the risk, the losses and emotions. Investment requires intelligence knowledge and the right idea put into play to yield results..

Yeah, I agree, business is much more predictable than gambling because we can do research and preparation before starting a business. There are also many things to learn and understand beforehand. In contrast, there isn't much to learn in gambling and most of it can be learned within a few hours. If we start a business without proper preparation then it could be considered a gamble which is not a wise thing to do.
If a person wants to do business, then he must research the business and observe the market. Realistically, everyone makes specific plans in advance and takes action accordingly. But gambling is different because even if you plan well before gambling, it may not work. However, there are risks in both cases and it is important to manage these risks. But I would never compare trading with gambling because gambling and business are two different things.

We all understand that both business, and gambling involves certain level of risk, but it is more profitable to risk in business than gambling, more especially when it involves putting in huge amount of money. Business do fail out of mismanagement or Fraud, however these things can be controlled to some reasonable extent. There are times when entrepreneurs keep flourishing in their business, and even when they make losses in most cases they can easily recover if not total loss. Gambling is a game that making profit is not guarantee, and most times, you make total loss. There are many gamblers who are on long term losses, and has no hope of recovering. Taking gambling as an investment is too risky, but we have uncountable entrepreneurs out there who are doing well on their business unlike gambling.

I’ve been giving a lot of thought lately to the concept of risk. I am currently planning to launch a real-world commercial business, and the deeper I get into the planning phase, the more I realize how many parallels it shares with gambling. It made me wonder Is starting a business just a socially acceptable form of high-stakes gambling? Here is how I see the comparison, and I’d love to get the community's perspective on this: Risk Management vs. House Edge In Gambling You calculate the odds, accept the house edge, and manage your bankroll to survive variance. In Business You conduct market research, evaluate competitors, and manage your capital. However, instead of a house edge, you face market volatility, inflation, and changing consumer behavior. The Illusion of Control In Gambling Poker players rely on skill, but a bad beat can ruin a perfect strategy. Sports bettors analyze stats, but a single referee decision can spoil the bet. In Business you can have the perfect business plan, the best suppliers, and great marketing, but an unexpected economic shift can completely wipe you out. The Psychological Toll Both require a specific mindset; the ability to handle financial stress, the discipline not to chase losses when a project fails, and knowing when to cut your losses.
For those of you who are experienced gamblers, investors, or entrepreneurs: Do you look at business ventures through the same lens as a calculated bet? Where do you draw the line between a calculated entrepreneurial risk and pure gambling? Would love to hear your thoughts, especially from those who have transitioned from gambling to running a business or vice versa!!!
In business, there is a concept that the number of attempts can completely change the outcome. In other words, if something does not work the first time, you should keep trying, continue improving, and repeat the successful strategies used by people who have already achieved success in that field.Business is much more complex than gambling, especially in the beginning. However, once you develop a system that includes not only routine operations but also dedicated time, money, and effort for growth and improvement, a business can become a stable source of income. Gambling, on the other hand, can never guarantee consistent success because there is always an element of luck involved. No amount of training, skill development, or experience can completely remove that factor. That is why I believe running a business is far more difficult than gambling, but a systematic approach can create long-term stability, while gambling cannot.

Of course, running a business requires a lot of consideration, and it's certainly more difficult than the considerations and analysis of a gambler. But perhaps there are some similarities in the process. Sports bettors conduct analysis in planning, and those in business conduct market research. I suspect those who have successfully run their businesses have gone through many endeavors that might be considered gambling in the real world.

Gambling can not be as profitable as when you are doing business. Most gamblers that we know really know what they are doing and some have businesses they are doing to make money and some don't depend on gambling to make money. Some gamblers do not depend on gambling to make money, they see it as fun and these people are not mere people that are looking for ways to make profits so that they can survive. If you have your money, you can also decide to gamble and that does not means that you are defending on gambling for profit.

I don't see business as a calculated bet but rather it's just an investment with risk but not much risk assessment in gambling, you know that to high degree, gambling is more risky and very volatile, when you are losing, everything is going down all at one but in business, you could perhaps be informed on time and instead of being in total lose, you can be able to cut down your losses, while in gambling you can not except when you are lucky to get a cash out.

I think the main difference is that business and gambling are built on completely different mathematical foundations. In gambling, a person can win in the short term, but over a long period of time, the advantage usually remains on the casino’s side. And in my opinion business works a little differently. There is still a risk of losing money, and even a great idea doesn’t guarantee success. But unlike a casino, an entrepreneur has more ways to influence the final outcome through their own decisions. And maybe however, I wouldn’t say that business becomes easy once you launch it. That’s why business can become a long-term source of income, while gambling should usually remain just a form of entertainment.

Business is not exactly as gambling, but they have some similarities. In Gambling the odds are always against the gamblers because the house always have more advantage. No matter how skilled you are, luck still play the major role. The same thing applies to business, although there is risks involved in business, which you can actually improve your chances of success through your knowledge, market research, experience, proper planning, good customers and smart decision-making. Although luck still matters sometimes. But your actions can influence your outcome more than gambling. I like the comparison between risk management and psychology because both gambler and entrepreneurs need discipline, the ability to lose without reckless decisions making and emotional control. Conclusively, every business is a risk, just like gambling, a business owner can actively increase the probability of success through skill, execution and learning.

In business, they say, it's all about preparation, market research, product quality, customer demand and hard work. Failure can happen, but there are a lot of things that the owner can control. Gambling, however, is more about luck, and even the best gamblers cannot overcome the house edge or ensure themselves a profit. So, when people refer to a well-planned business as a gamble. It doesn't really reflect that idea. One is about added value and long term growth and the other is based primarily on uncertainty and luck.

We do know that there are those people who are really that dealing up with gambling as if that becomes having a source of income on which it is that totally BS on which if they are really that going for source of income then why they wont be able to consider out on having a business/investment instead? Its just that needing up that basic common sense for you to be able to dstinguish things accordingly. They do have that different purpose on which gambling is really just that for the sake of fun and entertainment and also business/investment is for the purpose of making income source or other way stream on making money on which of course it does still have the risks but not as the same when dealing up with gambling. its not really that hard to distinguish the two.

Gambling is a game that making profit is not guarantee, and most times, you make total loss. There are many gamblers who are on long term losses, and has no hope of recovering. Taking gambling as an investment is too risky, but we have uncountable entrepreneurs out there who are doing well on their business unlike gambling.
we are comparing cabbages and carrots you can't compare two different things, damn it one is a business, therefore a job the other, gambling, is a pastime, not a job in practice they cannot be bought and whoever does so is making a huge mistake.

I believe that a player who has put in the effort and studied the game extensively, especially the impact and risk management, can build a profitable business in the future if they decide to change their focus. In any case, this experience won't hinder them, because it's difficult to build a business for someone who doesn't understand how to manage risk. It's important in both gambling and business to love what you do, even be passionate about it, so we have the energy for everything, from learning the intricacies of money and bankroll management to the risks we take when betting on a game or a business that could be successful.

Venturing into a business without having a wide knowledge of the pros and cons of that business is totally wrong because you will run or encounter so many loose while running the day to day activities of the business and I don't also think it's right to do business that links with gambling as we all know that gambling without proper bankroll Management can lead one into bankruptcy and depression, it also ruins one's life if you don't control yourself and stick to your budget. Business can't be looked at as the way we bet because gambling is predictable while you don't predict business, all you do as a business owner is to make sure you don't squander the capital and separate your profits from the capital and know the right strategies to use in marketing your product unlike gambling that you predict and don't win at the end of the day. You have to know that business strategy is different from that of gambling that you analysis the odds and team performances in betting which don't apply In business so both work separately.

Comparing business with gambling is not really a comparison for me too.. With business, you can actually sit down, do your research, understand the market, study what people want, and build a plan for your business.. Things can still go wrong, but at least most of the outcome depends on your decisions and how well you handle things.. But gambling is different.. You can claim to have a strategy, but still at the end of the day you still have to depend on luck, because luck and uncertainty still play a role in what happens next.. Both have risk true, but they are not the same kind of risk..

Well said, there is no way business can be compared to Gambling because gambling itself is all about luck, that's the reason why a business man should not have the mentality of a gambler. Comparing gambling to running a business doesn't really tally, the difference between them are clearly distinctive.

Both businesses and gambling are risk but in my dictionary I would call a business a "controlled risk" that can be predicted. In the case of an economic shift, it should be foreseen from current happenings in the country before a major hit strikes and a switch of priorities or businesses could be initiated ahead of time. But with gambling, it is a case of total submission and no control. You risk everything on luck without any form of control or notice.
You could be sure of profits while doing business but could never be sure of profits when gambling. They might have the same risk but control is one distinctive factor that separates both.
