i'm genuinely curious how you came across this   i looked at it, its a textbook scam, the README gives it away completely

$200 "for access to 10 000 wallets", crypto only payment, contact via a random gmail. if this ethicbrudhack guy actually had 10k wallets with anything in em, why would he sell access for $200 instead of just draining them himself?

Are you sure this is not yourself op? The repo looks really new. I can't imagine scrolling Google pages would lead you there easily. Just do what has been suggested above. It's likely a scam. Even if you assume that guy don't have the hardware to bruteforce those wallets, it's pretty easy to generate thousands of old wallets yourself. If for some reason you're worried about BTC security or something, don't.

Better expect those scams, so they won't fall easily on fake wallet.dat files. Also as what they explain, to hard to determine immediately whether its fake or not. That's why reporting it and stay away with it will be the wisest choice that could made.

Unfortunately Github became a bad place now, because their platform is been haunted by many malicious uploads nowadays. People need to be notified on this schemes since its better to have knowledge about it rather than fall from bad tricks of those bad actors.

Another malware attack approach disguised as wallet cracking, recovery scripts or tradable wallet. How does a repo with recent creation containing .dat files dated 2018 make sense? How does it look legit for a wallet recovery project?. Real old wallet files would have a long commit history, not what we have here.

Probably not new. I've seen similar self-promote using story like this in the past. I'm just trying to think positively, even though as I mentioned above, the chance it's OP themselves is really high. Doesn't help that a lot of GitHub pages are used by scams nowadays. Sometimes even the AI result from Google or other engines quoted them without verification at all. I remember seeing a project being quoted as "popular" by them even though the number of stars or traffic is really low.

It's funny how the repo owner said he got access to 10,000 bitcoin wallets traded online and ask for $200.

Why doesn't he crack it himself, make it make sense.

It's just another scam scheme, like those scam where they are selling fake read only, watch mode wallet with huge bitcoin inside.

Those old/forgotten wallets that are being sold online are scam in the first place.
Even if he intends to deliver what he promised, 99% of those wallets are fake; if not, password is so complicated that the owner already exhausted all possible brutefoce method with the current high-end hardware.

The scheme here is:
He already posted the hints in the repo free of charge, so potential victims may think that they have a chance to bruteforce at least one if they have a beefy hardware.
And proceed to purchase the compiled wallet file collection for a fraction of the cost per wallet.dat file from "official" sources.

To make it more believable, he didn't claim to have the correct passwords to be able to decrypt those wallets by himself since it wouldn't make sense.
The repo is just a compilation of questionable "password hints" that are available in the dark web or other shady places like Telegram.

And it's not the only scam repo that ethicbrudhack has created, he also has a couple of "cracking tools" that only contain 'readme' file with link(s) to a Youtube video.
It's good that Youtube already taken-down most of them.
