Is INEC Really Independent In Nigeria?

In Nigeria today there is no sector that can openly boost of being independent now in the country,

My brother I agree with you plenty plenty times because as we set this country so, plenty countries see us as the number 1 corrupt people and is like nothing good fit come out from this our side and e dey show, see health sector, doctors dey complain for lack of equipment and other things and e dey force them to even do scatter scatter work for person body after all them no dey pay them. School nko, that one them no dey talk about am but you see this INEC own, if there fit better I believe say the other place go get 75% chance to better but ones INEC don fall for corruption the next person or the ruling government don finish us, these guys them know where to hold hand make e better for them and that is why them go first hold who dey call election results then next na the lawyers.

I am motivated to ask this question because of what have been going on in Nigeria election, and in the electoral body. The INEC body is no longer independent, and are being ordered about by Nigeria politicians instead of standing on their ground as an independent body. Their is no longer trust in the INEC body as they dance to the toon of politicians who square them with money, and make unfaithful promises to them.

What is your take on this?

As long the president have the right to change and give instructions to INEC they will do as the government want because they brought them into that position and they will have to dance to their tune. No matter the method of election they will bring, it will be in their favor because they will find their way to change the result of our votes.

We have to keep trying to make change in the country, we need to be motivated to to cast our votes and also monitor it to the best of our ability so that we can have justice this time. We can't keep suffering under this government that don't care about us.

Everyone knows that INEC is not independent, how can something be independent when the President are the one appointing the INEC Chairman, because African politicians would obviously appoint those who are going to help their party to win the election, and who is paying the INEC officials is still the present Government that is playing the INEC, so we know how all this things works, don’t allow anyone to confuse you by telling you that INEC is independent which is absolutely wrong from people who feels that INEC is independent, this Present Government INEC is working for the APC, and they’re interested in Bola Armed Tinubu to win his reelection, in developed countries people that are in charge of electing a president doesn’t have anything to do with the Government, and voting are always online in the internet and the people’s choice are alway supreme.

I am not surprised by INEC being independent because the country is corrupt and the corruption itself start from the INEC because they all look like hungry people don’t know what they are doing, it is not today that we all know how corrupt INEC is and how they rigged elections to favour the party that bribe them with big money, I have said it many of my posts that it will be very difficult for us the citizens to decide who will be our president because even if we vote and the person we vote win the election INEC will do everything to change it because they have the power to do so.

One of the Nigeria problems is INEC and they are also the enemy of Nigeria because if they do their job well without any injustice Nigeria will be better now, I do not pray for anyone family to suffer but how i wish the kidnappers are only targeted the rich people so that they can taste what the poor people are facing in the country, if the rich people are the once facing all these problems in Nigeria I believe they will have solve the problem and do everything to make sure the country have a good leader.

Don't allowed the name independent to convince you that Inec is independent because it is not. Inec is answerable to the president direct, infact the president is the one who appoints Inec chairman so it is never independent. In a sane democratic government, the president shouldn't  have been allowed to appoint Inec chairman that's why the presidency is able to influence Inec to do it's bidding by manipulating elections results for it's favour. Inec is the major problem why we are in this mess because all they have been doing is manipulating corrupt leaders into power. We wouldn't have witness the likes of Tinubu, buhari and many corrupt leaders if Inec was truly independent. My dear Inec isn't independent it is answerable directly to Mr president and it's chairman can be removed by the president at Will,such power should have been stripped from the president.

This is exactly what I told someone yesterday as we were discussing that INEC is only answerable to the president that appoints them into the office and don't owe us any obligations except that of the president, so literally they will work to please the person that has given them the responsibility, Nigeria will never experience a free and fair elections so long the INEC officials are appointed by an individual that's just the pure truth.

If we really want a free, fair and credible elections then the power of appointing the INEC officials should be stripped of the president and that's the only way that Nigeria will be better and the changes we want will come into reality. They just use the name independent to deceive people and be manipulating results that is causing harm to the country. The honest truth of this INEC of a thing is that they can't do otherwise from the instructions that has been given to them by the president.

What do you expect of a position that is made by appointment and not by election? it will surely be manipulated in the favor of those who appointed him. INEC is still controlled by the federal government despite presenting themselves as an independent body but they work with the government. Gently looking at original features of all sectors in Nigeria,  you will notice that most bodies  where established to have an independent existence but because of corruption most have changed and are now controlled by a body it is meant to supervise, just like the original nature of INEC, it is supposed to be an independent body charged with the responsibility of organising and conducting a free and fair election but the corrupt system has changed it and turned INEC to become the architect or cause of bad governance in Nigeria today.

INEC to begin with is not an independent body, so long as the head of the organisation is appointed by the executive arm of government is enough reason for it not to be independent. It means you can be hired and fired at anytime which places the head of the organisation at the mercy of the execution with is the president. The same way the president, senators, governors and LGA chairman are all voted for by the citizens, that's same way the INEC chairman should be voted for, that's the first step of the organisation being truly independent. In Nigeria, we know how these appointments works, you have to be loyal to your appointee else you will be shown the back door except your appointee tells you to be loyal to the people instead of hi m and that's something outta the blue. So long as the appointment of the INEC chairman rests on the hands of the president, the organisation will never be independent.

I think this is a better idea, if the power of appointing the INEC officials are stripped from the president and it's conducted the same way elections are carried out where they are voted in by the masses the high corruption in the system will be minimal and the president won't have the power over them because they are not taking orders from him directly  and he can't easily influenced whoever is elected by the people but since the country has being a corrupt place already they can easily bribe the person too to manipulate the results for them except he is a corrupt free individual.

No one will outrightly betray who appointed him into office and that's why we have having results rig for the president because they can't work against his orders since he was the one that appointed them into office. Untill that is done INEC will never be dependent on their own without the influence of the seating president.

Having such persons with that level of dignity you're talking about is actually the main problem as we speak, because people are bend on changing overnight all because of money. However, nobody want to be sincere, everybody that's in sensitive position wants to make so much money within their period of staying in power but what they failed to understand is that nothing last forever, one day they'll surely exit power and the evil seed they saw will speak against them some day. It is dependent and not independent, because INEC works based on the government in power. No matter what they say publicly, the people at the top always have a way of influencing things behind the scenes. Look at how election results have been going in recent years, when the ruling party wants something, INEC seems to find a way to make it happen. Whether it is delaying results, changing rules at the last minute or mysteriously having technical issues, the pattern is clear.

INEC has never been dependent, though on the papers they tend to paint it as though they are independent because ideally it was supposed to be an independent body, the thing is whoever blows the piper will dictate its tune, as long as the president in power is the one picking the INEC chairman their is no way INEC can be dependent because the president will always pick whoever he is sure will play to his tune, the president even have the right to pick his brother to be the INEC chairman. INEC official don't have the spine to do the right thing and be free and fair when carrying out elections. And it is because it was their oga who is in government that put them there. And it is the instructions of those their oga in government that they will want to follow for them to continue to keep their job. Them dey deceive us on the steady day na democracy wey we dey. But this isnt democracy when people that conduct elections are controlled by people who are contesting for the power .

I have long lost faith in my voting rights, I think it is a waste of time for person to go and vote, our vote don't count
