Betting on totals instead of picking the winner?

Are there many bettors here who prefer betting on totals rather than choosing who will win the game?

I’m talking about over and under bets. Like in the NBA, if you bet over 210.5 and the total score already goes above that number, your bet is already won. You don’t need to care who wins the game anymore. That’s different from betting on the winner as even if your team is leading big, it can still be scary until the final buzzer. We have seen teams blow big leads before, so a 20 point lead does not always feel safe.

For those who bet on totals, why do you like it?
Do you find it more entertaining, or do you think it is more profitable than predicting the winner?

I actually like betting on totals sometimes because it removes the stress of picking a winner. A team can play well and still lose the game, but with over / under bets, all I care about is whether the match will be high scoring or low scoring. Take for instance, if like two NBA teams are known for attacking basketball and weak defense, I might go for the over instead of trying to guess who will win. In some cases, I find totals easier to analyze than picking a side. Although both markets have their risks. A game can suddenly slow down or players can have an off night. So for me, it depends on the matchup. Sometimes the totals market offers better value than trying to predict the winner.

For this I am still flexible because I always look at the odds first before betting and when the odds seem quite attractive and look at the performance for a club or team then I will make some bets with over or under compared to 1x2 but not all bets I make are the same because in some moments when 1x2 seems much better then I will be on 1x2 instead of over or under.

All bets are the same to me because the initial look is not about the points in basketball or the number of goals in soccer but the odds that seem tempting to do.  So from this point on being on the over or under is not always bad because sometimes on some occasions it will give slightly higher odds than 1x2.

Definitely a good option. Even though gambling depends on luck, it's obvious that many gamblers use this strategy to make money, because you don't have to bother yourself too much when a particular side isn't doing well. You're only looking out for your number of goals. Sometimes gamblers lose because they depend on a particular side to win.

The most annoying part is that a team that seems to be the favorite can still lose to the underdog. Without a doubt, this option is pretty safe in gambling because you only need to predict the total, nothing else.

Betting on totals is one of the best options but it can still be very tricky if you don't take your time stop study the matches before selecting and be careful. Under/overs can be hard to choose from because you can bet on either of them and end up losing when the opposite plays out. Although this isn't really a safe option because there is nothing that's safe when it comes to sports betting but the chances of winning can only be increased when we apply strategy and do proper analysis, with all these we must still stake an amount we can afford to lose

I think I know what you mean, in betting there are many options to bet and I see this as one of the strategy to reduce the rate of loses , these option of betting on several game and suggesting the numbers to come as smart way to gamble. Sometimes in the local shop they call it combing game. A situation where you select 20 game and predic 15 to 16 to win, and if it does you will win but it will not give you what you would have gotten if it played all. But however it is still good and better than some other options. But the problem is that if the games didn't meet the requirements , like not being to play 15 out of 20 then you have lost completely. The truth is there is no game without a risk.

I don't like betting on totals, the only options i bet most of the time is double chance 12 that's any side to win or 1x or x2 which is home win or draw of away win or draw. I feel like this options is the safest even though it doesn't work all the time but can't leave this options for any other options. yes back then I used to bet on totals but that period I have been having a hard time in wining from gambling then I decided to switch to double chance and I must say that there's a lot of changes compared to when I was betting in totals. Although this option easily work for most gamblers but my own case seems different.

I think it's more specific than picking a winner. If a game is determined by picking a winner, it means they're simply gamblers. They're usually beginners and not serious sports bettors. They're simply here to make a profit. Gambling with points is how we truly enjoy the sport. Sometimes, it's more satisfying to see a goal scored or a point scored than a team or fighter winning.

I don't particularly feel betting on the total number of goals is more profitable than going straight for the moneyline.
Today's match between Spain and Cape Verde is a good example of it, who would have bet there was not going to be any goals scored through the whole game? Very few people would have foreseen something like that, as the majority of people was already counting on Spain as the winner today.

Both, those who bet in favor of Spain and also the huge majority who went for totals lost money today.

I prefer to simply go for moneyline, to me it is more straightforward and allows me to easily use some analysis to get some edge against other bettors.

In sports betting its quite boring if they only have a match winner of the event, so its good opportunity to the players if they have more categorization of set of events such as the first score, first 10 goals, under total and over total of games even the players scores. The higher the number games the number of chances of winnings to the player at the same time opportunity to the casino to earned with these games too. If you really well known the player and the teams performances its an edge and higher chance to win the bets. I do love having a first 10 kills in dota and first 10 goals in NBA.

That’s not the case for me, although I know the option you mention is becoming increasingly popular. Perhaps it’s because I have a football pools mindset, where you could only choose whether the home team, the away team or a draw would win. I prefer to choose from these options and, if I want a potentially big return, bet on the underdog. But just as you can bet on the score, you can bet on almost anything, such as whether the first goal will be scored before the half-hour mark and things like that, and I’ll pass.

Total betting actually has a very significant advantage over outright betting. Total betting only has two outcomes (win or loss), while outright betting, for example in football, has three (first team win, draw, second team win). This is a huge advantage: trying to predict one outcome out of two is much easier than trying to predict one outcome out of three. Even predicting one outcome out of two possible events will likely result in long-term losses, but predicting one outcome out of three will result in very rapid losses.

Moreover, it should be borne in mind that these types of bets are mainly susceptible to manipulation. Total, even/odd, score/fail to score/both score. Because it is almost impossible to prove the fact of manipulation in this case.

A lot of bettors are placing bets to over and under. I guess the reason for it is that, it's harder to predict who has the edge over the other team as there were no real underdogs or favourites. Unless, if you're favourite team are playing, you could be rooting for them through certain spread or straight money line if odds have real value.
Over and under is one of the betting line with good odds, so, it isn't so surprising that bettors normally opted to this when they're in doubt whether a team could cover a spread or win the game.

So, to answer the above question, yeah, I like betting on over and under when I can't get a clear pick from other common betting lines.
Sports betting are always entertaining, and any betting line can be profitable.

Every one has their own way or preference but I generally speaking, totals bets in the NBA or similar are often an excellent choice for those who understand the game well and don't rely solely on luck. Instead of basing your bet on a team that could collapse at any moment you will focus on the tempo of the game and ball possession and offensive style of both teams. These are clearly reflected in the statistics.

so I believe that the over & under bet gives you a clearer picture, less pressure and a genuine chance of winning, even if the team you predicted would win loses because you're betting on the rhythm of the game not on an uncertain lead.

Tried that a few times in the past but never with real success. Maybe I also also just unlucky, who knows. I mean mostly I bet team totals for the 2nd half when seeing how they performed in the 1st halt, so you kinda have a hint how it goes. Well, often enough I had teams like scoring 50 in the 1st (basketball) and the total then was like 90-93 points. Guess what, all the time they suddenly made like 35 points or something like that in the 2nd.
Also, too often I have lost because of 1 or 2 points missing, especially when you see them missing free throws it messes with your head.
At some point I just gave up, never going my way.

Another option again that I think is very good is a double chance That is the option of where one team either wins or draws.

I do similar things for cricket games. In cricket matches, the total runs scored is what we need to predict. I have also seen a variety of other markets in cricket, such as predicting the total team runs after the 15th over and placing a bet on that.

Is it fun? Do I like it? Then yes. But is it more profitable? Not at all. At least, I am not profitable from these markets yet. I feel these are very hard to predict. It’s easier to predict who will win the match, but predicting an actual number is really tough.

I remember that in the last IPL season, I lost a good amount of money in these types of markets, particularly in the matches involving Punjab Kings. The odds are usually quite high in these markets, but we need to remember that the higher the odds, the higher the risk involved.

This is a pretty common type of betting from my experience, at least, in my area. Alot of folks around me do prefer this type of gambling, and I also do.

Why I prefer this type of gambling option is because, I feel it have a higher chance of winning. Unlike picking a winner or a loser which is just binary ( having only 2 results or outcomes). An over or under option do have a range of results or outcomes that can still give you a win. This increases your potential of winning.

When it looks impossible to guess about the winner, it is only natural to select the number of goal depending on style of attack that team employ. I totally concur that this is a lot more secure to your wallet. There is also excellent additional protection given by the double chance betting. Attacking statistics are the most appropriate to provide a feeling of ease when viewing the match.
