Op you made very good points. The truth is while Bitcoin's core consensus remains fixed, we've seen the protocol evolve over the years just like the network upgrade in Segwit and Taproot. Now imagine a user whose technical knowledge of Bitcoin stopped around 2017, it simply means that their understanding of transaction efficiency and modern security practices is totally outdated.

You are right you know, because to re-learn something means to forgo knowledge and learn new ones. In the relation to Bitcoin as a currency of value, there's no need to re-learn, but rather adapt, update, upgrade the information scope to meet current real world criteria.

Point 1 alone is a bit of trivial ... every technology has that "problem" that eventually you'll re-learn.

Where it gets interesting is if you analyze if technology improvements can lead to new security threats.

An example is Taproot. Lately the problem that its "key spend" path is not quantum-safe has been talked about somewhat. Now we need probably BIP-360 to correct that.

So in this case there is really a new possible danger that appeared due to P2TR transactions. If users blindly used Taproot technology without "securing" the key path, they may get exposed in the future. (This isn't really a problem if you use the address only for a short time, but it shouldn't be used for HODLing purposes, as you shouldn't re-use addresses.)

Another example were the attacks in Lightning.

Thus I think users should be careful with new Bitcoin features and try to understand them properly. Once there is more experience with a new Bitcoin technology, wallet software developers will probably add proper warnings or disable dangerous features.
