I can only speak for myself here, but yeah what you wrote sounds about right.  Bitcoin Discussion in particular is full of threads that are either pointless or have run as long as 100 pages or more or are just filled with absolute nonsense posts.  So what happens when an entire section turned out to be that way?  Well, I have it on ignore and rarely visit it at all, much less hand out merits there. 

Economics is hit or miss.  Sometimes there are good topics and some decent posts within them, but that section has gone downhill since I first registered 11+ years ago.  I do give out merits there still, but it's usually to higher-ranked members and not to lower-ranked ones who need them to rank up and who I'd rather give them to.

Feel free to report those unmerited good posts in Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source. In the 7.5 years since I created that topic, I think it has proven there aren't many good posts that go unmerited.

He could have included Speculation as well, which is similar to trading discussion.

The Speculation board has the Wall Observer, that makes it one of the most Merited boards on the forum.

Merit sources are not limited to a particular board, but it is necessary that most of their allocations goes into the board which they were assigned for as merit source, what's more important is that merits are spread across quality posts.

I don't remember any case merit source got punished for mainly sending merit outside board they mentioned on their application. So IMO word "expected" is more appropiate than "necessary".

Not only that, Bitcoin Discussion also contain some thread that is probably more suitable on other board. Few example from page 1,

User such as CTO114 frequently create generic thread, mostly on this board. His profile page shows he create 161 thread and reply, but if you click "Show the last topics started by this person.", you would find out he create 134 thread. I don't bother report any of those, so i expect most user have same attitude.

Users like this are the reason I don't visit the Bitcoin Discussion and Economics boards. He's already on my Ignore list, and should have been banned a long time ago. His posts are what I like to call "generic shitposts", and I can't even get myself to read it, but his topics easily get several pages of replies because many others want to reach their signature quota.

I think the Bitcoin Discussion board should be one of the best boards on this forum, but at least 90% of all topics there shouldn't even exist.

I have seen some good threads in Trading and Economics boards as well. However, most of the other threads are about repeated topics, which has been discussed before. There are very small number of unique topics. I don't like Political discussions anymore. Most of the political discussion threads are spreading hates and the forum members becoming enemies of the other member because of their opinion and support.

I feel like the merit sources do not want to get involved in these threads. Meriting the political posts will be like I liked this one and I am supporting this person. Most political threads turns into political debates. This is one of the reason I also ignore these threads.

However, I am not a merit source. Just sharing my personal opinion about it.

Are you giving a reason speculation board should be included just as Don Pedro Dinero said? The merit source and people with huge smerits are concentrated on the Wall Observer thread while the other threads on the speculation board are not getting enough merits and not that people on the other threads on the speculation board are not posting good.

When people are on prediction markets betting on the bad events. Just discussing about the reality is something that is very good. What you do not like will be very fun for someone like me because what I am posting there will not still change people that are killed in war and not discussing about it will not bring them back to life. There are many topics and posts on the politics and society that are neutral and some are not about war and other related events but still about politics and the public.

Some merit source particularly streamlined their application towards a particular board while some make it a general board application and those eligible were considered, however, it's very important that you know this, a merit source is not limited to any board where he can distribute his merit as long as he is willing to do so and found quality post that deserves receiving merits, the only exception are for those that only specifically stated the board they wanted to concentrated on during their application.

Why I’m asking this question is because boards like Economics, trading and political & society boards are actually lacking merit distribution meanwhile there are good threads created by members.

Yes all the boards in the forum has its appointed merit source that are in charge of rewarding any quality posts on their board not that they don't visit other boards but their main focus are in their board.

Also I might be new but with my little experience and research in the Forum, what i noticed about being merited in some boards and not merited in some depends on where post are being made or how productive and educative the posts or topics are, there are some boards that only discuss extensively on how the forum works and talks about the way forward of the forum, Some boards discuss the technical aspect of bitcoin and others discuss Bitcoin related and also non related topics.

So as the case may be, some merit source from other boards do sometimes goes to other boards of their choice  to reward any member with productive and educative posts or topics.

I am very sure you didn’t even bother to read through other replies on this thread rather you just jump on the OP alone, if you had read the entire thread you would have found out that you’re wrong as many merit sources have already made it clear that sources are not assigned to a particular board.

Going forward as a newbie I think you should actually prioritize reading other posts before replying to threads.

There are both: during application, a few applicants used a specific board's reference where they had been active, and a few haven't used any specific board. But after approval for merit sources, they are free to spend their merits anywhere. But to me, priority should be there and used during application. But I don't think theymos minds even not being active there.

As I said above, assigned. But depending on the merits of the sources, they might move into other boards as well. But are you sure your mentioned boards have any specific merit sources? I don't think merit sources are moderated by the forum admins unless there are any allegations raised against merit sources.

However, if you believe there are some posts that deserve merit, then you may mention them in merit threads. So merit sources would take a look at that.

The economics board taught me many things, I know we all took some kind of economics course in our school level but that teaches nothing and to tell the truth I even learned how inflation works, geopolitics revolve around the banking system and even why they increase the Fed rates by reading a lots of those threads, I mean most of them are non sense but some of them were reall gave me the perspective that I could ever able to figured out by myself.

But some newbies always invade the economics board just to create threads and flee away to create new one, this is happening for the last 4 years or even more, before that we really had many random and some informative threads there.

LOL he just wanted to reply without reading what other people wrote, as a newbie he was suppose to only read what other people who have been in this forum has said about this matter and not bringing his own idea or what he thinks because he is still new in this forum except he's telling us that this account he used to reply is an aIt account because I don't understand how a new member in this forum will have knowledge concerning this matter as for me I really don't know anything about this matter but since I came to this thread what I did was to read what other old members in this forum has said and I learn something from that, I think it's better to read other peoples reply than to reply to thread that you don't know anything about.

Honestly I some how see this merit of a thing as luck because like you said there are some boards that have post that deserves merits but it doesn't go there and it makes me feel like there are some persons who are lucky to have merit on their post, the merit source can also ignore some of those posts that deserves merits and again we should consider the position of the members that have post that deserves merits, if your rank is not from Full Member upwards it will be hard to get merit from any of the merit source, some of the full members too have better post that hardly get merited. It looks that way, the economy, trading and the politics and society you mentioned have better post too and we shouldn't forget the gambling part of the forum. For me I still see it as being lucky to be merited, is not just a particular board that they are assigned to, is everywhere because we have better post everywhere in the forum.
