Messi has done well, he was outstanding in the match against Algeria and deserves all accolades. Messi continues to be my best player.
Messi is just less than one week to his 39th birthday, do I disagree he's 38.

I don't like the statement I put on bold because it's writing off the possibilities that his records can be achieved and surpassed in the future by a greater player, there's always room for records to be broken, just like in world cup goals, he has broken that of Ronaldo and is about breaking that of Miroslav Klose which is equal with now. In the future, we might still see a better player and we'll celebrate him.

We thought no one would beat Pele and Maradonna's achievement in football, but here's Messi doing that and in the future we might still see someone that would dwarf Messi's achievements and that's very possible

Well played first match for Argentina, with 3 scored goals by Messi. His accuracy and calm are something else which can't be reproduced by any other soccer player from our current time. At same time, Argentinian national team also deserves the merits, because they know how to use Messi at his full potential to beneft the team. I'm young and I can't watch on tv the first Leo Messi when he was at barcelona with guardiola but I watch his last years in Spain, the not good experience at Paris saint germain and now I can admire Messi at world cup and this is his best match that I never watch. I watch the 2022 qatar world cup too but he wasn't extraordinary like last evening. The shot from out of the box and the right place at the right time is his caratheristic that he never lost. Obviusly I will admire messi in the next matches too.

How do you mean by Messi's achievements isn't complete if he doesn't win the 2026 World Cup? Do you actually know who Messi is or the country he's playing for? Go and check which country won the 2022 world Cup, it's Argentina and which country is Messi playing for, it's the same Argentina, now what does that tell you, Argentina won the 2022 World Cup and it was all attributed to Messi who played alongside his national team members to achieve that..

Argentina are the defending champion for this seasons world Cup and even if they end up not winning the world Cup again, they've already won  it and this is a big achievement for Messi compared to  Ronaldo who is yet to win the world Cup.

Maybe Algeria is a bad matchup for him, and he completely dominated because the game was in his favor (didn't watch the game BTW). So let's not just use this 1 game to draw our conclusions.

You need to watch the match to understand how well Messi and the entire team played. The goals scored were incredible and hopefully he will be able to carry on with the momentum. His entire body of work can draw the conclusion that he is one of the greatest ever.

Sorry, but I think there is a lot of exaggeration here, Messi is without doubt one of the greatest players in football history and nobody can deny what he has achieved, however saying he should never be compared to any player is a bit too much. Football fans will always compare great players from different eras and that debate will never end, it’s the fun part of football.

What I find more surprising lately is how many decisions seem to be in his favor. I have watched several Inter Miami matches and even the recent game against Algeria, and there were moments where I felt referees being very leant with his side. In that match, Messi could easily have received a red card for his dangerous game, yet he stayed on the match. That does not take away from his quality, but it is something worth mentioning when discussing his performances lately.

He had a great game against Algeria and deserved praise for it but one match should not be used to end all football debates forever. What’s happening is also undeniable with the continuos referee mistakes.

Messi has always proven himself to be the savior of the Argentine team and has always delivered when needed, the hype for Messi should be reduced. I love both players (Messi and Ronaldo) they are exceptional in their different ways and we should always show our respect for them due to the history they have created in football.

It’s always a struggle for supremacy between these two, the Messi fans would say his the best player of all time, the Ronaldo fans would have something to say about that too, then we would have the Pele fans, the Maradona fans, Ronaldinho, Zidane and more those from an era where some others know nothing of and more of those.

These comparisons just keep coming up and it gets really tiring. I’ve just sticked to the one thing that stands out and that is, these guys did make me enjoy the beautiful game of football and that’s what matters most in the end for me. I don’t have to place anyone ahead of the other. I watch Messi on his best days and I just love the game, I watch Ronaldo on his best days and the feeling doesn’t changes, I love how they make me enjoy football, period.

Cristiano Ronaldo is also a great player, but he depends on the ball coming to him, unlike Messi who goes after the ball, creates the whole scenario for his teammates to score goals, and at the same time creates a scenario for himself to score goals. Messi is a solid player, he did tremendously well for his club, Inter Miami, in the just finished MLS championship, same energy, doubled strength, he brought again to the world cup to put his nation on the top its group. I wouldn’t even argue with the Ronaldo and Messi fans. Most are fanatics and hype everything their “GOAT” does. Personally, I think Messi and Ronaldo are two special players and I have enjoyed watching them play all these years. IMO this World Cup doesn’t necessarily determine who the better player is, the fact that they are still performing at this age shows that they are both built different.

I’ve had the opportunity to drink the tears of CR7 fandoms for one last time. Myself and some of my friend had a really nice banter, Lionel Messi, didn’t disappoint me, I anticipated a good play from him but he exceeded my expectations by far. I never expected a hattrick from him, and that just made my day.

I’m waiting for his next match against Austria. I hope he does continue with his performance and give me something to brag about.

This is just human characters for you that even when you have done so wonderfully well and being cheered along the way of you doing just wonderfully amazing to their interests, but all the remarks are erased snd undermined when after all the struggles ynot and you could not still reach the hope of their expectation.

Why don't you just appreciate his efforts with the World records he had already set on the FIFA World Cup and his performance in this 2026 tournament?
Perhaps not everyone that does not carry the cup that did not reach the great height, some like the greatest player Lionel Messi who had set his indisputable standard will still forever be honoured even if he does not take the cup home.

Messi is putting on another legendary performance. Starting the World Cup with hat-trick is incredible. He lifted the trophy last time. Will he do it again? He's definitely one of the contenders. This tournament looks like it will come down to Spain, France, Germany and Argentina again.
We're a lucky generation to be able to watch Messi live. He's the GOAT and this is his final World Cup. We are sacrificing sleep to watch him live because there won't be another tournament like this. I think everyone should realize this and watch Argentina matches.

It is not possible to judge whether Argentina will win the trophy by looking at the performance of the first match and the result of the first match. It is not possible to say when and where a team will perform well in a match, besides, there are some other strong teams like Argentina that have the potential to win the trophy. However, Messi is a very good player and he has to be praised although I am not a fan of Argentina.

Messi's legacy is already established. He brought the World Cup for Argentina in 2022. At the age of 38 this hat trick against Algeria proved that his magic was not over yet. And it was his first hat trick in the World Cup which touched Klose's record of 16 goals

Yes, winning another trophy would be legendary.

But it will not remain incomplete if it is not won.

There is something missing in that term GOAT. I have been hearing and seen the term referring to a great player but the P is Missing in the acronym. If GOAT stand as Great PLAYER Of All Time, where is the P in the GOAT? Well Messi is great player. He played well and took the World Cup in 2022 and the way they started the opening match, they will play the final with France.

There is no P in it because GOAT stands for Greatest Of All Time. It can be used for any professional in any field that’s considered the best in what they do. Pretty sure you have heard actor, musicians, and artists being referred to as the “GOAT” before.

This WC has been full of surprises however I don’t see Argentina making it to the final this year.
