Not that I don't get what you said earlier but what I'm trying to say its that some people emotions are always high even when they don't compared both close and big margin like you said because some gamblers stake without even considering the odds and in this state, they become vulnerable for the house edge to use, as in they will become an addict to the game, as it will favour the house edge the more and makes the bettor unhappy.

Yea, It's about the build up, the tension increases, and watching the game live when it clicks, such a feeling is not something of ordinary. Someone who has experienced something similar can be the judge too, I've had the feeling and it's not something i easily want to forget, the prize for the bet may not matter but level of satisfaction it brings is top notch.
