You are probably right to say that the OP is overestimating Africa. But I do not agree with your view that the resources Africa possesses are unnecessary for humanity and irrelevant to ordinary people.
In fact, many mineral and raw material that modern industries depend on are concentrated in Africa. I believe that a large share of the technology products and household devices we use in our daily lives rely on resources that originate from Africa.

The precious minerals extracted there end up in the pockets of the imperial powers. They share the profits with the oligarchs who rule their countries. Nothing is left for the local people. They die of poverty or live like slaves. But they aren't even aware of this. There's nothing here that benefits the ordinary person. It's a battle for the imperial powers over the distribution of wealth.
If they had been able to understand this, they wouldn't have allowed it to happen for centuries.

Nope, are you insane, the resources Africa has is one of the reasons why we can survive economically barely, if it did not exist then we literally would not be able to survive for far longer. Biogeographicaly Africa has the world's longest Forest like Amazon and also it's most well known for its natural resource and silver, gold and almonium is on the top and also have identification as a rich culture and growing market. The world can of course survive but would be worse off for losing an entire continent.  The biggest tragedy is not the total loss scenario but that fact we are already missing a large gap in productivity across multiple nations on this continent, its losing out on productivity and the benefit it could see being a greater part of the world economy.
  
  Also I find fault with the question itself, to only value the nations and land of all these people by the commodity value is so low.  There is much higher value possible then just commodity extraction from these lands, I'd almost say the question is insulting in its implication of valuing in a colonial type way purely from above not in development and production possible.
