The people that value confidentiality would prefer to reach out to a helpline, in that way they don't have meet anyone they know to talk about their addiction problem. A helpline can guide them and in some cases connect them with a therapist. But I will always be of the opinion that the gambler must put in personal efforts to stop this addiction.

But perhaps the point is that how can they help if they are not in the position physically? Maybe they will be called and they give good answers and support but how will they know that those gamblers are following their order?

Just recently here in the Philippines, PAGCOR, which regulates licensed casinos and sportsbooks both online and offline, launched an initiative called the 24/7 National Problem Gambling Helpline or NPGH. That is correct, even me, I would not be comfortable talking to someone about my gambling addiction if I do not know them. If I would talk, it will be with people that I trust, like friends and family, so this one would not really serve its purpose. Hotline someone you do not see with your eyes, and they don't know you down to your house. I won't consider it the same say I will see you talking to someone I don't know and just meeting on the street.

I don't like sharing my problem with strangers, but in such a situation, I can freely talk to the person on the phone and limit the amount of personal details about myself that I can give out. It can just be considered as chatting with a bot and discussing some pressing issues which you need tips on how to get over it.

I think Help line is not even the first line of defense.  How could a person who is sitting comfortably in an office waiting for someone to call them ans tell them they are addicted and ask their advice?  More or less, they are a crisis support option.

True, so I think to be able to help a person who is about to get addicted, the institution should regularly study the casino's player data and look for people who have red flag of getting addicted to gambling and reach out to them.  The institution should be the one to do the initiative if they are really concerned about gamblers.

Waiting in an office for someone to call them is like telling them to get addicted and just call them if you are already in trouble.  This is not a preventive measure, this is a reactive intervention.  So how can the title claim that this can help reduce gambling addiction?  It can reduce the number of gambling addicts towards destruction, but not reduce people who are getting into gambling addiction.

The purpose of the hotline is to help those gambling addicts who needs advise but not get rid of gambling addiction in my opinion. It can be effective though if the caller is willing to listen the advise of the counselors and i don't think they will be stubborn since they called so they really wanted the help they can get.

I have doubts if this initiative is helpful because i don't think that those gambling addicts are willing to share their problems, most of them are even secretive to their own families. As of now, there are no data on what are the number of calls they receive, hope they can release an update on this so that people will know on how this initiative is doing.

But the service won't be for only addicted gamblers. It could still be a help line for abused gamblers. We have heard a lot of times where gamblers are deprived of their wins and most times they don't have anyone to cry to for help. This could help along way to help fish out those fake casino or gambling sites that are stealing from people.Well, I don't how effective this would be on the long term, but it's a good start from the government. the problem is that some gamblers might not be willing to turn themselves up simply because they feel they are addicted. Some might be scared or ashamed of their habits and would prefer to just stay silent instead so they don't get stigmatized by the public for their habits..

I think it goes down into that level since their services offer is same like a first aid about fighting addiction.

If the person is willing to cooperate not only with them, but also with their family there's more greater chances that they will get aid from addiction.

The only difference is the person who will answer the call for this hotline are professional on dealing with gambling addiction case while a telephone call with a friend doesn’t guarantee that other person will understand or will give a good advice that will help addicted person.

That is better if it is not only for gambling addiction, because those scam casinos can also be reported and hopefully the regulators will investigate and go after bad casinos.

With only reliable casinos left, gambling becomes easier and the problem about withdrawals and settlement of winnings will not happen again because they know if they mess up, their license is at stake. Exactly, those who works for the sole purpose of counselling those kind of problematic addicted gamblers knows how to assess the person that they are talking with, unlike with relatives or friends that sometimes adds up to the pressure as instead of listening since they can freely voice up what's in their mind and their opinions regarding to the issue they may throw some words that may often the person, and also, similar to what you said, most of the time those problematic gamblers doesn't want to share as they are afraid being criticize.
