Just because you are not making a profit, doesn't mean that trading doesn't work, some people do make a profit. And just like in anything with life, sometimes some things are good for you and you do it very well, and somethings you are not, it's normal.

I can't play the piano, doesn't mean playing the piano is useless or it doesn't work, some people are great at it and play very well, I can't shoot like steph curry, doesn't make basketball any less of a path for some people. It just means, trading isn't for you, which is fine, you can find something else.
Let's just accept the reality that anyone can enter trading, but not all traders end up profitable. It could mean trading isn't for them, or it might be that their trading experiences aren't sufficient enough to make them positively navigate their trades in the market.

But if you have been trading for 3- 5 years, and yet you can't even remember when was time the you made substantial income, I have to say that trading isn't really meant for you. Trading is good, but its not good for everyone.

One year full learning without experience the real thing is a bit too long in my opinion, since there is already a lot of trading knowledge available online that we can learn for free. We can learn some trading setup and indicator before we start trading, after that as you said, it's better to use a small amount of capital even if we have good capital to start but use small money is wise and then we can trade while learning technical analysis (TA) at the same time. What takes time is determining whether a strategy is consistently profitable or not because many traders tend to change their strategy whenever it isn't working.
Regarding trading, there are countless resources available out there. We don't even have to spend any money or time in finding those. Even youtube has a lot of trading guides and journals where anyone can learn. Learning how to trade will require just a few basics. How to make profit is what will take time.

I think learning how to trade or how the trading market works might take less than a month. But to make actual profits, it will take years. The time between understanding trading market and making profit is really crucial. Those who remain firm in this time are the ones who succeed. Technical analysis is too deep. Newbies would mostly learn a few basics of TA thinking they know a lot and jump into trading. When it comes to technical analysis, there are a number of fakeouts due to the rising volume. One should learn how to identify these fakeouts.

Ironically, people who make that claim have never made money from trading themselves, nor have they ever met anyone who has. What about you? Have you ever made a consistent profit from trading, or do you know anyone who has?

Comparing trading to the piano or basketball is a flawed comparison because they are fundamentally different.

making it after grinding for a few years varies massively depending on the person, some jammy sods click straight away while most just keep looping the same bollocks. trading doesnt magically reward u just for clocking in hours, its all about whether u actually spot ur own blind spots and fix em instead of just burning cash staring at charts for a decade. finding a rhythm that actually suits u matters way more than just surviving on hopium

Oh yes, trading pays very well but when one is not getting it right or not recording huge winnings, it doesn't mean trading doesn't pay, it means you're not on the right path and not doing the right things to make trading profitable for you. I know how challenging it do gets when we're unable to capture our momentum to make good money in trading but trust me, it's all about disciplinary and consistent with the right strategy, I repeat with the right strategy because one can be busy and consistent making poor decisions in the market and expect to hit lotto but that's not the case study here. Trading do require one to be more enchanced and experienced but what more can be offered?

Expecting profit as soon as you start trading seems unrealistic to me, because a trader needs a lot of time to become successful, you have to learn slowly, and l losses are high in the beginning.
If you are desperate to make quick money when you are trading, then you just going to be losing, and you not going to be making anything serious from trading. As a beginner you shouldn’t expect money from trading, just focus on how you going to accumulate more knowledge, because if you desperate to make money, you just going to be getting things wrong always.

I don’t know why some beginners  do trade with big amount of money, I feel people like that don’t have proper orientation about trading, they just jump into it base on what they see on social media, or what they hear people saying. As a beginner always start small, then you can increase the money you trading with the more you understand things.

It is true, even if you lose, you have to continue trading as much as you can afford to lose.
If you are trading and losing, you are not suppose to continue trading. You should stop trading, figure out where you get things wrong, figure out why you are losing frequently, look for ways to fix that then you can continue trading.

They show fake winning snapshots and videos for selling paid signals. I never believe them.
Don’t trust everything you see on social media.

In some previous threads, good questions have been raised such as "why are people still trading when they are not making money?
There's no trader that enjoy losing why trading, when a trade loses why trading, it doesn’t gives a trader courage to proceed trading, i wonder you said you dont know why people keeps trading why they're not making money...most of the traders that quit from trading, it's as results of losing that makes them to quit...

Quote
" Then some members here would say, "quite trading if you are not profitable"
They're two things that's involved when you’re not be favoured in trading..neither you have a break and advance your experience in trading or you quit and avoid unnecessary losses...

Timing in trading success is something that is controversial because by just spending years trading doesn't automatically make a trader successful or profiting consistently.
Anyone who spends years in trading without been improve in profit making in trading...it means that the trader is not keeping records of its loses mistake...Because the more you practice in trading the more you acquire more knowledge of trading that will make you to overcome the risks that leads in losing...

As a beginner always start small, then you can increase the money you trading with the more you understand things.

There are a lot of things that kills in trading and desperation is one of them. Every trader needs to understand that trading is not some that can be rushed and the outcome won't change no matter how fast you want things to go, instead it will even make thing worse. People tend to forget it's not how soon but how well and that's where many beginners in trading get it wrong. No need to rush, desperation will affect your decision making in a negative way which will inturn affect your progress. It's a simple logic, when you're new to something you learn to understand it and when you have got enough knowledge you can proceed gradually but now with beginners, they always eager to make money.

If you are trading and losing, you are not suppose to continue trading. You should stop trading, figure out where you get things wrong, figure out why you are losing frequently, look for ways to fix that then you can continue trading.
Chasing after losses kills more and faster than anything that's why it is always said to avoid getting emotions attached and putting more money than you can afford because they are what results to chasing after losses.

At first, define success. Is it a certain amount of money? If you reach that amount, will you stop trading? I don’t think humans have a saturation point, they always want more and more. That’s why you see people trading for many years.

Every time you open a trade, you are putting your money at risk. After doing this for years, some long term traders get tired of constantly risking their capital. They then claim they are successful and start teaching others by selling trading courses. Instead of risking their own money they earn a fixed income by selling courses.

To be honest, all of this can be a distraction. If you are truly serious about trading, learn from free resources, apply what you learn in the market and learn from your own mistakes.

Yes, trading can pay but that will not happen if one doesn't do the right thing which you are right about it. Why some people profits and why some don't its because their strategy are not the same, those who encounter losses are often the one's that don't do the right thing but choose to do things by themselves without applying the right rules. Just like the saying, the ball is in every one court, it depends on the individuals to play it well, that also applies in trading.

The number of years that you have been trading does not really determine if you are a good trader or not, some people spend years of trading doing the wrong thing, either they don't follow risk management or they get too emotional when trading. The reason why a lot of people still trade even though they are not seeing positive results is because they are just trying to be consistent. While being patient and consistent is important it is also going to be of no use if your strategies are not putting you in profit in the long run.

experience is a teacher. Knowledge is the best teacher. When you gather experience, it does not guarantee a good knowledge or a bad understanding. Imagine somebody who went to learn about something and was taught the right thing but the wrong thing is what the person grabbed due to low IQ. Trading is good but it requires somebody with high IQ and not somebody who just trade recklessly or does not pay very good attention to how the trading outcome become so they can adjust based on the realities they have faced.

It actually depends on how much skills you have acquired throughout the years that you have been trading. You can't also equate your expertise with time because it depends on how are you really executing your tasks in this activity.

Comparing trading to the piano or basketball is a flawed comparison because they are fundamentally different.
Actually, I don't think anyone can make a consistent profit, though there are some people who have become rich through trading but not consistently because there is no way to trade without experiencing losses due to the instability of the market price and those who do win know a lot about the market, even though it can't be predicted but have dedicated their time to learning and have done thorough research on the market, while those who experience constant losses or  always claim that they are not making a profit, don't devote their time to learn and acquire basic understanding and knowledge about trading, as their mindset is focused on making quick money. However, trading can't be for everyone because in life, what might profit one might not profit you, it is best for one to go for what they have better  understanding about than to follow crowds.

As a trader, what is your take on this question,  how long is it supposed to take for someone to become profitable and successful in trading? People should know about this, so that after they have tried for such period of time and are not successful, they can quit.

If you are a successful trader here, how long did it took you to become successful and what are the things you did differently now that made you profitable?
To be profitable and successful in trading, learn long-term investing. This is a good advice. You will not get the expected success from short-term trading if you do not practice the market beforehand. A good way to practice the market is to accumulate Bitcoin regularly. The strategy of buying regularly regardless of the price will teach you discipline. Consider a 4-year cycle as the initial goal to build a Bitcoin portfolio. During this time, you will accumulate only Bitcoin holdings as well as a lot of experience related to the market. After completing this fixed period, decide whether you will trade in a risky way or invest for the long term.

But what exactly does it mean to do thing right in trading? And what makes a trading strategy the right one?

As we all know, the market is constantly changing, and a strategy that works well in one period can become useless when the market change. In other word, no strategy works in every market condition. So saying that people lose money because they aren't doing thing right isn't necessarily wrong, but it oversimplifies the issue.

Trading is a game of probabilities. Knowledge, experience, or strategies can only increase our chances of success, but they can't guarantee the outcome. So there is no absolute right way to trade, and everything is relative.

Trading for a long duration and making profits for a long duration consistently or near consistently are different things. People will make a lot of assumptions about trading and often they will lose more than they make. So you have to assume anybody speaking about their profits with a bag of salt.

Most of them are involved with websites to gain affiliate downlines and supply a continuous chain of bamboozled newbies to waste their money on that site while the referree gets a 10% cut.

End of the day the exchange and referee (who is hailed as some god in social media) - get rich while the common users get their pockets emptied.

From the experience I had it doesn't matter how many years people used to learn trading, one single reckless trade and they will blow up their account, I've seen this too many times already but there is also some who got disciplined in the act of trading, they don't do it everyday,, they use long term chart like weekly and monthly, this particular set of people have bigger better results than those who exposed themselves to trading everyday. People who really make it through trading are limited in number compare to those people who thought they have known it all only to end up blowing their own accounts over and over.

In some previous threads, good questions have been raised such as "why are people still trading when they are not making money? " Then some members here would say, "quite trading if you are not profitable"
It has always been a thought I kept in my heard for some time now but I chose to create this thread after I came across videos by soms.self acclaimed successful and profitable traders who would say "they have been trading for more than 4 years and that they finally became successful after 2-3 years of failing and bursting of account."

So, some of these social media self acclaimed successful traders are saying that they were persistently trading for more than 2 years and were unprofitable but later on, maybe on the 4th or 5th year, they now started being profitable till date. What is your opinion about such speech from those traders, do you believe is true or they are just lying?

As a trader, what is your take on this question,  how long is it supposed to take for someone to become profitable and successful in trading? People should know about this, so that after they have tried for such period of time and are not successful, they can quit.

If you are a successful trader here, how long did it took you to become successful and what are the things you did differently now that made you profitable?

I think it could be related to market cycles, someone decides to get into trading, starts trading during a difficult period, and ends up in a bear market where liquidity is low and the overall market is very weak. They spend several years trading at a loss.

Then a bull market arrives and everything starts going up. People see the market rallying and begin opening long positions. For a while, some manage to recover all of their previous losses, while others even make a decent profit. That's when they start saying they've finally figured trading out and can trade profitably. But I'm almost certain that confidence will only last until the next bear market begins.

Timing in trading success is something that is controversial because by just spending years trading doesn't automatically make a trader successful or profiting consistently.

Someone may spend 3 year trading and still keep blowing up their accounts, while another person's can spend just 1 year and master their decipline, strategy and patient which are the tools to make you a profitable trader.
You are right, trading is an art and it must be learned but for how long depends on the one learning. If you are a good learner, you can be up and going in no time while a slow learner would take a little bit more time. It is just like  wanting to become a doctor or engineer, you go to the right place then spend years learning the ropes. Make no mistake about this, the fact someone is a successful trader does not mean he/she never loss in trades again. What that means is that they now win more than they loss.
