The digital euro would offer citizens and businesses a private, secure and innovative way to pay, while reducing reliance on non-EU providers.

Do you think Bitcoin can coexist in Europe with a government backed solution?

Itnis better for the EU to tackle Europe's dependence on US-controlled payment networks such as Visa and Mastercard with better approaches, if the digital euro is CBDCs.

I like the countries that make shops to place QR code of account number for payment and also making it easy for their citizens to use. Most people have mobile apps on their phone, but using card payment.

Another thing is that they can develop their own cards instead of depending on the United States.

What if people in EU do not embrace digital euro?

That would be a good development, considering that the Government would be willing to provide a digital  Euro in 2029, well I believe that would be the same thing as USDT this could actually happen to be one of the stable coins that would be introduced, I don’t it’s also time for Europe to leave anything that would make them to be more dependent on the usage of Mastercard and Visa which are used all over the country, most especially in all continents that is in the World right now, it would be a good development.

I have a suspicion that euros do not realise how much infrastructure is needed to cover VISA/Mastercard

The privacy part is probably the biggest question. I don't think they'll use a system that makes it impossible to determine who makes or own an address. Skim reading the article makes me think they'll probably have some inconvenience tracking it, but it'll be easier compared to Monero or something else. Can only wait and see I guess. Even if they outlaw Bitcoin or crypto in general, I wonder whether they'll be able to enforce it then.

Digital euro is a CBDC they didn't think it over completely imho. Or I'm missing something.
I see it implemented as "pocket money" for online transactions. And from what I've read there are quite low limits an individual can store as digital euro (3k?) and companies would be under very big restrictions on the amount to store over 24h.

It looks to me the Euro-Bank overstates its capabilities of processing and checking.
As much as I consider e.g. Tether to be shady, I think that USA decision to leave private companies handle the stable coins is the correct one.
I have a feeling that in EU it may be only a noisy step in the direction of convincing VISA/MC lower greatly their fees "or else", not a well thought step for progress.

Why couldn't it? Digital Euro wouldn't even resemble cryptos. Nor it would have anything to do with bitcoin so it's not like it's an alternative to cryptos.

I mean it can coexist with debit cards and paypal, so what would make digital euro a special kind of threat to cryptos or BTC?
