This story is really heartbreaking and it shows the dark side of gambling addiction. Gambling doesn’t only destroy the gamblers alone, it also destroy the family too. The young guy thought that one win can solve all his entire problem and clear all his debts, this kind of mindset is what trap many gamblers to gamble more. Borrowing money to Gamble is one of the most dangerous things anyone can do. Once debt pile up and losses continue. shame, fear, pressure will eventually increase. Some people will reach to a  point where they  will no longer see a way out. Gambling should never be seen as a means to make money or to escape financial problems. If you want to gamble it should be for entertainment or fun only and with the money that you can afford to lose. Once a person start borrowing, chasing losses and hiding debts, it’s a serious warning signs. This incident should remind everyone to gamble responsibly, set limits and seek help early if gambling has start to affecting their lives. No game is worth losing your peace or your family.

I have also seen for myself how a gambler can experience destruction in their life because of gambling debt. From bankrupt businesses to broken families. In the end, it's not really about losing life, but what I see is that very bad lives have been experienced due to irresponsible gambling. Anyone can go through that, so it's better if we start limiting ourselves and become more aware of the risks of addiction from now on.

Physically and online I have seen them in several times. A neighbour of who was doing well financially in the neighbourhood is broke below the poverty level. Right now he is helping bricklayers, blocklayers and cutting farm land for people to survive. He has sold all his properties to pay back the loans he collected to gamble. The worst part in gambling is for the gambler to borrow and use it to play gamble and loss them all.

This is an incredibly tragic story! I myself played at casinos in my youth, struggled with gambling addiction, and realized what a terrible psychological problem it is! 🙋

Moreover, I only played at the casino with my own money (I didn't borrow money). But this young man gambled with borrowed money. Therefore, he was probably tormented by feelings of shame and guilt. Deep down, he probably knew he would never be able to repay this money to his family and friends. He felt completely isolated from society...

When a gambler suffers a major loss at gambling, their prefrontal cortex completely shuts down. They can no longer reason logically. They are completely at the mercy of Chaos. This pushes them to irrational and very bad behavior.

$15 000– 18 000 is, in my opinion, a very large sum of money. It's impossible to make that much money quickly, and trying to win it at a casino is an absolutely hopeless endeavor.  Perhaps this young man needed to move to another country and try to build a life from scratch. But, unfortunately, nothing can be fixed now...

Sometimes, the people around can be an enabler of bad decisions taken by someone. In the case you just narrated, why will his friends and family even borrow him money when they know he doesn't have any source of income to pay back the loan. How is it possible that his friends don't know that he is addicted to gambling, if they are unaware then they are not his friends because there is no way one among your friends won't know what you do. It is such a sad story but all i could say is that young people should reduce their hunger for quick wealth because that is what is ruining the life of most young people now. They don't even want to learn skills that they will use to earn a living; they are just interested in a short-cut to make money and that is the reason why many youths are gambling, they don't gamble for fun which is why they go any length to get money and use it for gambling.
Sometimes, one shouldn't blame the friends and the family members that lend him the money, you don't know the kind of lie he told them that makes them to believe in him to the extent of lending him some money, people can do anything to convince or manipulate one just for gambling, especially an addicted gambler. But you are right, one has to have the right mindset before gambling, this can make them to do the right thing when gambling and most importantly, use the funds they can easily lose without feeling to chase after it, because not having this kind of mindset makes a lot of people to fall into the trap of addiction by chasing after their losses.

That is why everyone should gamble carefully and should gamble not for earning but for entertainment and fun.

These are absolutely true words, because anyone who begins playing online casinos or engaging in betting should be fully aware of the risks involved.
And I always say that the very first step in proper and safe gambling is understanding how vulnerable a gambler is to addiction. If they're an alcoholic or have a family member who drinks, they should understand that addictions pose a danger, and of course, gambling is a real test of endurance. Behind the pretty pictures lies a powerful psychological test that not everyone can withstand.

I am of the position that regardless if you view gambling for profit or for entertainment, if you lack the necessary discipline and responsibility in managing your finances then that would be your downfall in the long run.

Gambling should always be approached with moderation in mind. If you tend to lose control over your losses and you have that feeling of recovering them by gambling again, then that should be the sign for you to stop. Remember, solving your initial problem with another problem will not be the solution. It will only create more problems for you that can quickly snowball out of control.

This is the problem with peoplw they dont think of the consequencies it will bring to the family, they just enjoying life and then when things get worse they will just blame others, they dont know they are the one responsible to what they are doing,
But that is life we always blame other people because we dont want to blame ourselves

That is true that people tend to blame others for their mistake. I mean, it is definitely easier to blame others than to admit that you have committed a mistake. Acknowledging that you indeed commited a mistake takes serious courage, which should be the qualities of a responsible gambler in the first place.

It is very bad to gamble with borrowed money, there is higher chance that the person will lose the money and the consequence is very bad and some of it happened to him which later cost him his life. But also it is very bad to gamble with the money that is yours which you can not afford to lose because it can cause stagnation in life and which is also very bad. I only gamble with small amount of money and I am able to lose it in a way it will not cause me any pain.

A young man had been involved in casinos for a long time and he didn't do any work. Instead, he borrowed money from his family, friends, and even borrowed money to play at casinos, but he kept this secret so that no one knew about it.

He will be the one to face the consequences of what he is doing by himself alone, people like this will have no good job or anything to do that fetch them income, instead, constitute nuisance around any environment they found themselves, abuse the use of a casino for exploit and other misbehaviors that is common with addicted gamblers and irresponsible people around gambling.

At one point, his debt reached around $17,000--$18,000. Since he had no permanent source of income, it became almost impossible for him to repay the loan. Later, even though he asked his family for money, their financial condition was not that good, which made it impossible for him to repay the loan.

Do the family members or anyone around him stand as a guarantor for him in taking some of those loan, if this does not apply then I have seen many cases of related gamblers in this manner and the family neglect them to their behavior as if they have no one, they would have been warning him and refuse to listen to advice, this is why we should not stand in for anybody especially when it comes to loan.

Instead, he constantly came to the homes of those who had given him loans and threatened them in various ways, putting a lot of pressure on the family for money. When the family came to know about the matter completely and started putting a lot of mental pressure on the young man,

I don't think this is even possible because there is law enforcement agencies that can arrange him to court and charging of his offenses and they can as well show no pity upon his behavior by getting him imprisoned, so that he can meet other people of the same mentality and status at the prison yard and learn his lessons.

Recently, I learned from some local people yesterday that a tragic incident had occurred in a village near our area and it is a very sad incident.
A young man had been involved in casinos for a long time and he didn't do any work. Instead, he borrowed money from his family, friends, and even borrowed money to play at casinos, but he kept this secret so that no one knew about it.
At one point, his debt reached around $17,000--$18,000. Since he had no permanent source of income, it became almost impossible for him to repay the loan. Later, even though he asked his family for money, their financial condition was not that good, which made it impossible for him to repay the loan. Instead, he constantly came to the homes of those who had given him loans and threatened them in various ways, putting a lot of pressure on the family for money. When the family came to know about the matter completely and started putting a lot of mental pressure on the young man, but the boy did not get any direction and at the last moment he died with the burden of debt on his head.
According to the locals, he lost his life because he could not bear the financial and emotional stress. This incident made me realize that gambling never harms just one person, it can ruin an entire family even end their life.
Basically, I think this boy may have become very addicted to gambling and he thought that once he gets a big win, he will pay off his entire debt but that is not the case anymore.

This is a very sad and regrettable, because a life was lost unnecessary. But I want to ask if the guy kill himself or what killed him, because pressure alone cannot just kill him unless he does something stupid by taking his own life.
Gambling cannot ruin your life if you don't treat it as a means of making money, or if you do not gamble in excess, so I believe that what takes that guy to the length of borrowing money to gamble is mostly the cause of joblessness and the believe of making easy money from gambling.

Quote
Such greed is pushing many people to death. Nowadays, when people enter casinos, they do not have control over themselves,
That is not greed mate, that is the cause of recklessness or addiction, it has nothing to do with being greedy.
And try to understand that if you start taking gambling as a means of making money, you might go extra length in other to get money to gamble with, when you are short of cash, so we should try our best to treat gambling as an activity we do for fun, not a means to make money from.

Based on the title of the thread, it looks like it generalizes that borrowing money for gambling will consume your life.

Well, I disagree with that because I have borrowed money many times just to gamble, but look, I am still here. Nothing is really affected to the point that I become irresponsible with my family just because I have gambling debt. For me, the correct statement is not really “borrowing money for gambling is bad,” but borrowing money when you cannot afford to pay it back is the real problem. Because no matter how you spend the money, as long as you are able to pay it through your source of income and it does not affect your responsibilities, then you should still be fine.

Of course, it is still risky, especially if the reason for borrowing is to chase losses. That is where gambling debt can become dangerous.

This is a very good question that should asked, of course they know that he is a gambler, I will not react too harsh because this is just a story but when looking at this story, those that borrowed him the money made a lot of mistake, I don't think that his family and friends can convince anyone that they don't know that the person in question is addicted, let's say they aren't aware, will that stop them from asking him deep questions before giving him the money if there's need for that, irrespective of the lies or whatever strategy he will apply to get the money from them, there are some questions that can be thrown at him at that moment that might expose what he actually wanted the do the money, I know people will blame this on gambling rather than putting the blame on the gambler that refuses to gamble responsibly, it is quiet unfortunate that people won't still learn from stories like this.

I have severally came across such news and this is not the first time I am hearing such thing around us.

If you must gamble it is better to use the amount you can afford to lose while gambling than going to borrow money to gamble where you can't pay back.

Using an amount they can afford to lose would help them reduce pressure on what to gain back from gambling.

If is sad to see that he wasn't able to withstand the pressure at hands.

According to the locals, he lost his life because he could not bear the financial and emotional stress. This incident made me realize that gambling never harms just one person, it can ruin an entire family even end their life.

.. That is why everyone should gamble carefully and should gamble not for earning but for entertainment and fun.

Gambling addiction or any kind of addiction is every family's concern because it can destroy the family's reputation and the lives of people involved, so it's a full effort of the family to see to it that no member of the family is a slave to gambling. Gambling addiction is curable, but the family should address this immediately, they should understand that a timely interperence can save one of their member and the family's reputation.
Losing a family member through addiction is unbearable and the family will take this heartache forever.

This is why some people believe that gambling is more destructive than drugs because it can also cause someone to face different kinds of difficulties in life while some persons end up to lose their life on the process because of depression. There have been many different but similar stories on this forum regarding people who end up losing their self or life because of debts that they accumulated for themselves through gambling. The family of this guy should have helped him get help from a therapist because I guess what he was suffering from is disorder that needs taking care of before he can change.

If his friends and family members knew he wasn't doing anything and he was gambling borrowing him the money was actually a way of enabling or feeding his addiction because if they didn't do that then the chances that he would have ended up that way is quite low. There's a lot of danger that comes with gambling for profits or trying hard to recover, this comes with a lot of losses In the long run. It is better to gamble with your own money even though you get addicted than to get into debt, this is what makes addicts commit suicide.

Op would have gone more precise with the topic by adding that a young gambler's life got consumed from numerous loan defaults, however his content did the job, and from the warning it gives, borrowing to gamble is really a tough decision for players with no plans of paying back, namely, those who depend on paying back with the amount of money they expect to win from casinos. That's a terrible life decision to make, considering how hard it is to win through desperation in any earning settings. However, the people who gave out such amounts in debt should have relayed back to the young boys family for questioning and proper interrogation of what they do with the borrowed money, and their plans on paying pack, way before he started threatening everybody.

Basically, I think this boy may have become very addicted to gambling and he thought that once he gets a big win, he will pay off his entire debt but that is not the case anymore. Such greed is pushing many people to death. Nowadays, when people enter casinos, they do not have control over themselves, so they lose control. When gambling with debt, it is the most risky, which is for the family and the children of the family. Therefore, before gambling, one should not gamble with debt and should control oneself. Gambling with debt really takes a person to a deeper level and puts him under mental pressure, so at one point, without looking at any situation, he finally chooses the path of death. That is why everyone should gamble carefully and should gamble not for earning but for entertainment and fun.

As gamblers we know that the most amount of money we lose is when we are chasing losses.
So it could have been the case that the boy was trying to chase his previous losses and ended up losing even more.
May be he thought once he bets more amount of money and wins enough money then he will repay all the people.
The thing is, with gambling, things are not in our control and this often leads us to betting more money than we could afford.
This is the point where we have to act smart and stop gambling but it takes strong will to do that.

Moreover, I only played at the casino with my own money (I didn't borrow money). But this young man gambled with borrowed money.

Whether it is borrowed money or your personal money there is every tendency that you would lose money when you gamble but it is better to lose your own personal money than losing borrowed money the pain is very severe. The experience after losing money to gambling is not something that one should experience just gamble with a small amount that won't give you so much pains if you lose. Gambling kills the shock you get when you lose when you gamble with money that is meant for something more important makes life become miserable.
