Is the World Cup 2026 a moment of glory for African teams?

It's not yet time for us to call a moment for Africa. This is the group stage that was concluded and we have about 9 out of the 10 African countries qualified. Their advancement to the next stage like semi-finals(which I believe they won't be up to three African countries) will give us a thought to categorically praise the African teams that get there, for making Africa proud.

The African teams I aim for such task, to make this world cup to be the moment of Africa are Morocco, Senegal and Cape Verde.

Round of 32 is the point that every country will be more serious and that is when we will see the good country in the competition, because know one will like to lose any match because any mistake you do and lose game you will be Automatically eliminate in the competition. Currently Canada and South Africa are playing and I see Canada have been doing very well and they really deserve to achieve the wining but let see how the game will ended, because World Cup is always a different competition and you can’t really predict who can win.

Based on the number of African nations that advance to the next round of the World Cup, it appears that this year will be an exciting time for African countries to succeed in the competition. However, the World Cup games are full of surprises, so before we can determine whether the 2026 World Cup will be a glorious occasion for African teams, I believe we should wait and see how the African nations perform in the new stage, as in the previous World Cup games, the majority of them have consistently been eliminated.

Nobody remembers which team advanced from the group stage when the World Cup ends, but everyone remembers who won the World Cup. So, for me, only the day an African country wins the World Cup will be a glorious moment. Until that happens, we will always be the weak continent in international football. The fact that many African national teams have advanced means nothing. Because in the group stage there is luck and weak teams. Whereas in the knockout stages things become very difficult, and it is in these stages that African teams lose.

Glory is still very far fetched in this competition, they just survived the group stages, a lot still lies ahead for them and there's still a lot of proving themselves they need to do here. They've done really well to escape the group stages, now it's time to battle it in the next round and they need be very serious because it's elimination all the way

South Africa has become the first African team to be eliminated in the round of 32, losing 0:1 to Canada.

Do not rush to conclude, yes for now they are doing well, they players are really making Africans proud, but I think we should focus more on how successful they will be at the end, because too much praises on them can make them more proud of themselves that might lead them not to put more effort or zeal towards winning the trophy, it will be better and more interesting if African countries are seen at the top of the final qualification of the world cup. Yes, of course, I love Cape Verde and I'm totally sure Ghana will eliminate Colombia, but they have to make it happen, they can't doubt it. Many African teams have been through and have also been the main reason why many predictions have been invalidated. It has been shown that many draws are beneficial in this World Cup. This new format has made it seem a bit more equal, but there is corruption against these teams too.

The real challenge in this World Cup will begin after the group stage. The knockout phase will tell more if this time is for Africans after many of them qualified for the knockout phases. From the position they have all finished, it shows that only five teams got a direct qualification and the rest got into the round of 16 as best third losers. This competition will only get more fierce after this moment. Two of the teams I hope will go far from Africa in this competition qualified as best third place losers, in keeping an eye on them to see if they can make it farther than how far they’ve come in this competition, especially after qualifying for the round of 32 qualifying stages.

Not taking the group stage seriously, I hope this is a misrepresentation I heard.
All countries that qualify for the group stage are those who fought desperately for their country to get to that stage. They started the qualifying round with difficulty, so I don't agree with the statement above. All stages in the World Cup are important things, not least related to the squad brought by each country.

The success of the African team in this World Cup is history, it is something that everyone on the continent should be proud of. If one of them is able to qualify for the final and win it, then everyone will realize that not always the World Cup is dominated by European teams.

I'm not really sure how far Africans can go in this competition but from their performance so far they have been doing quite well and it is something to be commended. But the real challenge is yet to begin and I doubt if they are going to be able to make it that far, this isn't because I'm underrating them or anything, the world cup is very competitive and other countries from different continents will give in their best. It is not time to call it a moment of glory or anything, let's give it a little more time.

You are right, it is not really wise to conclude just yet because anything can happen at the end of the day. African teams are doing well right now but that doesn't really mean that  they are going to win the competition at the end of day. Most of the African teams are doing quite well, but the end is what matters.

I also noticed these statistics, but I think we should at least wait until the quarterfinals are over. The success of many teams now is easily explained by the fact that the number of teams has increased and the competition in the first stage is minimal. In general, aren't you bothered by the tournament format, where eight of the 12 third-place finishers make it to the playoffs? From a competitive sports perspective, this looks more like a friendly warm-up games than a competition where everyone is eliminated except one.

I have seen some of African teams were underestimate like Congo or Cape Verde but in fact they haven't give up til the end and eventually qualified to the next round. I think this is a good achievement and should be appreciate especially this is the first time for these countries to playing at big tournament like world cup

Compared to Asian teams who only send 2 representatives for 32th round i think African teams have done well that because currently this continent has 9 representatives but the question is how far these teams will go considering the opponents of them is very strong.

I agree with you that it's not yet time to celebrate African teams because they still have a long way to go considering the stages that are ahead before reaching the finals. The tournament used to be 32 teams before it was upgraded to 48 teams, if not, those African teams who finished third would have even gone home leaving behind 5 teams to continue the journey. We don't even need to hype African teams because none of them could even finish at the top in their respective groups. Yesterday, South Africa was knocked out by Canada even though it was expected which means that two African teams are out already so imagine what will happen before the round of 16, maybe we might be seeing just 2 or 3 African teams left, so it's not really something to be too excited about until we see like 2 African teams reach the semifinal.

the new format is a bit unusual and evokes mixed feelings. on the one hand, several relatively weak teams that would have had no chance under the previous format have advanced to the playoffs thus lowering the level of competition. but on the other hand, now there are more matches where clear favorites can face weaker teams. from a football betting perspective this format is suitable. only two matches of the round of 32 have been played so far and I'll have to wait until everyone else is played to form a more clear opinion.

I've seen a couple of matches in this world cup. Some teams did stand out compared to past performances but I couldn't really point out a lot of African teams although I barely followed the matches serially. First off my country didn't even qualify for the season probably that would have prompted me to watch more matches.

Two teams though that did well in the round of 32 actually were Morocco and ivory coast. So far overall I think Morocco has been the best and it's a little expected based on their performances over the years.

There is one thing that normally happens in the game of succer which is when a team is playing with determination to get to the top that alone makes them fight without looking back until they get to there final destination, Which is the only reasons most African teams still remains in the world cup.
The underestimating look all have for African teams has gone beyond imagination and am sure they will do anything within there power to rewrite history this season.
