I just lost a friend to gambling addict this recently

This is very true op, what your friend experienced is now becoming more common for us to witness, it is not surprising that some people act recklessly because their lives are ruined by gambling, in my environment there are more than 3 cases like what your friend experienced, this is how it ends if someone cannot control their gambling activities, even if that person is very rich, because this is a high-risk activity, so be careful and always place gambling as just a place of entertainment.

I don't think gambling should always take the blame when personal responsibility is left without discipline, without financial management and budgeting and without emotional control.
Without these three qualities irrespective of the business ventures or investments or in this case gambling activities, how can one actually have profit?

There are so many persons I know who gamble alot and the bottom line is that many of them try as much to manage their bankroll and know how to set their aim. It is those who are greedy and go for high risk leverage that often gets disappointed because they think that's a way out of their poor state not knowing they lack clarity on their psychology and discipline.

Even those who hit big jackpot win go broke without proper financial management practice let alone someone who has money and tries to multiply it by gambling. It's just greed that often gets them addicted and am sure the environment in which one finds themselves is also contributory factor to serious addiction problems.

This is what I tell people: addiction and all forms of gambling  problems doesn't care about your financial status. Both the rich and the poor get addicted to gambling. It might not have been because of money that he lost this much; it might simply have been the losses he incurred as a result of pursuing what he loved so much. He became a victim because he failed to control whatever he was doing, but he doesn't need all of those blames right now. He needs guidance and support to come out of the mess he has created for himself. I believe that by now he has learnt his lessons and will either quit gambling or become a better gambler after the much-needed help is given to him.

I have heard of many individuals that have gone through a lot in gambling but the did not change until they learnt several times from the consequence of their mistakes so that could be the case of your friend as well, probably has to make more mistakes to learn I guess.

I have always advive those who don't have a source of income to fix the problem first before they turn into a gambler, but I don't even know that someone who is already making good amount of money can get this addicted to gambling.

That's crazy and I think it even take longer before he lost all of his things. It can be avoided when someone literally have to stop him and get ahold of him.

But I don't think that he allowed anybody to intrude with his decision. That's a severe gambling addiction that we can look at that point.

I can not verily tell it if we must turn the gambling placed into a source of income or not but if I may ask, if the excitement of winning is about the incomes we make, I think gambling can actually be turned to a source of income but where it will be insane is  when treating it as a reliable source of income which I think it was the desire of that your friend that is why he could lose all he has.

For me i don't actually seeing reasons of selling all my properties or selling some of my  valuable assets all in name of gambling because gambling is associated with so much risks that it doesn't worth it at all, so if any gamblers has not been controlling himself to the extend of not reaching of selling valuable assets just to gamble, it means that such gamblers should hold down by the family members because is good and bad, but it just depends on how individuals goes about it, the story the OP illustrated really tough my heart that I'm having pity on his friend that fall a victim of being so addicted to gambling to that level of begging money to earn a leaving. The thing in your story that pain me very well is that your friend entire family is paying the price for one person addiction.

And it might be that your friend wasn't actually looking for money when he first started. But when he bet with more than what he can afford to loose and then lost the money, that made him to want to get that money back and that is how he turn to addicted gambler. The odds hardly favor gambler, and that it why it is very risky when any person now start to be depending on it.

When a gambler is addicted, he can do desperate things and so they can sell properties just to cover their gambling desires. The addict has their choice and if he did traverse such path is their choice. And so he will suffer such consequences. If he will not learn a lesson, he won't change for the betterment of his life.

Gambling addiction don't know if you're poor or rich, it does not choose between the two of them. You see once someone begins to chase losses or have this believe that the next bet will solve everything,the habit can quickly get out of control. Well, if you think that you can then do it but you know the cost and consequence of it when your decision go south. As we say when we gamble, it's only for the entertainment but why not also settle with the potential of us earning some money when we gamble responsibly? Because you haven't experience that kind of situation. So it's easy to say that, but if you are a gambling addict, we have seen them doing worst thing, not just by selling, but by making up stories to their friends so that they can borrow money from them to fuel their gambling addiction.

In short they will do everything and they will justify that it is right for them. What I witnessed though is a family member, who had a good business. But when she suddenly become addicted, she closed his business and then we later found out that she had a lot of loans from institutions and lending apps. So that is about 2 years ago and still she is trying to get back from that bad experience and last time we heard, she was looking for a job.

It’s a hard to believe story for sure because, I don’t see how someone with a family, wife and kids whom was supposedly doing just fine would go about, selling stuffs like car and household properties just to gamble while the entire family would just sit back and watch all these unfold. Like, gambling is way more dangerous than many people use to think.. It will not just drain your money, it will mess with your mental health so bad, destroy your confidence, and could even ruin you relationships with people..
That is why people need to know their limits and never depend on gambling as a way to fix financial problems. A little self control can save someone from a lot of regret.

His own situation is worst oo and I can't really figure out how he got to that point ,but at the same time I can't say the story is not true, because with addiction so many things are bound to happen, firstly greed is number one thing,the moment you began to expect so much out of gambling you are likely to be trapped,it's better we all see gambling as an entertainment even tho we still want profit from it ,with that it's going to enable us not to depend fully on it ,so it will save us from a lot of demaged ,I really feel for his family, because his condition is really bad, addiction is so bad.
