How does merit actually work for new members

A few things I am to get merited the most biginner and help vs others boards. Itis better to focus on one board or spread across a few?.

However, here is a brief summary about what "Merit" is. Because merit is actually that feature o the forum that determines your rank here, and after merit, there is also another thing called "Activity" which adds up after every 2 weeks, and you will be given 14 activity. And there are certain merit and activity that you need to have to rank up as either a Junior, Member, Full, Senior, Hero and Legendary member. So you need to know that merit is been earned on the forum.

It isn't limited to high rank users.
You gain merit by making post someone deems deserves merit
Most time of quality.
Though some boards have a lower merit average, you can gain merit from anywhere
Just focus on the board you good at and don't make getting merit The goal.
Learn, ask questions, follow the rules and learn to search for a topic before posting.

Hi, I've read the beginners thread/post, and I have a couple of questions. When people say that you get merits for good posts does that include comments that are part of the discussion or does it mean that only when you create a new thread/topic you can get and give merits??

I don't have any sMerit yet so I'm not sure if I'll be able to reward people whose comments I see valuable. Oh, sorry I also don't understand yet how the main thing is called if topic, post, or thread, because people call them in a different way.

Doesn't have to be only new topic or thread or anything (Yes, comments that are part of discussion are also included).

You can receive (your own) and sent merits to any post/comment/topics (Note that, you cannot self merit your own posts).

You need to be active, focus on reading more than posting for now..

You’re not in any sig campaign so there’s need to rush  and posting off topics /post just to increase your activity.

You have just 1 activity per day so make use of it to post something meaningful.

You need to understand more than merit, understand the forum at large since you’re asking if you should stick to a board or not..

Goto Meta board and read  all the topics that are pinned  at the top, they are generally called sticky threads here.

Generally, merit is awarded to useful posts by users who possess sMerit. As a basic piece of information for you, if you get 2 merit, it means you have 1 sMerit to distribute to posts you deem worthy of merit. You can read a detailed explanation of all that in the thread: Merit & new rank requirements

As far as I know, merit distribution happens frequently on the technical boards, but since you are a newbie, I don't think you'll be able to follow the discussions there. Instead of getting merit, you might end up getting a tag on your account for posting false information on the technical board (if you lack a grasp of the technical discussion).

I doubt this thread would either be locked or move to Archie. It's because you are asking the question that has been answered a couple of times. Even you reading the pinned post might get your answer as well. Do good practice; since you are a newbie, you should read the pinned post of each board where you are going to make a new post. So that you may get many answers that you are going to ask.

However, in short answer, merit has been distributed based on users' contributions, except for a few merit abuses. "Exceptional" won't be an example anyway, so keep in mind that you will get merit based on your contribution to the forum. For that, you have to learn first either from the forum or outside the forum, and then you have to contribute to the forum your knowledge. Then you may get merits from the other users.

The information you have already about merits is okay to keep you going. You don't need to study more about it. When you make am informative or educative post, you will be rewarded with merits.

It could be nice to note that, if you keep mentioning merits in your posts, you might not earn it. That is how it works, people don't like giving merits to someone that is over desirous for it.

Everyone can share merits here, but the sources of those merits are assigned for sharing on posts that are more valuable. There are also some higher ranks who have sM and will send merits when they find your post. Just be active and share some good and authentic knowledge here, help others and don't do anything that can seem suspicious. When you receive merits, you will get the sM merits by itself, as it is generated when someone gives you two merits, which can make 1 sM. Then you can share it somewhere that truly deserves it. However, it's important not to abuse merits, as it has dangerous consequences.

You first have to learn to post well by following the rules of the forum. If you can post good quality then you will get merit. And when you get two merits then you have earned one Smerit. Then you can give one merit to another. You have to find out which board is given comparatively more merit. For example: If you have good technical knowledge then if you post on that board you will get merit because comparatively more merit is given in Bitcoin technical discussion. But of course you have to discuss it after knowing and understanding. Otherwise there is a possibility of getting tagged. Also, all boards including local board and economics, trading discussion get more or less merit but the post must be quality completed. You can go to the search option and see how to post quality completed.
In short, you have to spend a lot of time in this forum and know. If you are a good poster then you don't have to worry about merit.

Merit improves your account rank, and proves that you are a good user among other users. Those who are experienced and knowledgeable have a lot of merit, you see that there are different quality members as proven by this merit. Since there is a merit system, it is proven that a knowledgeable user will definitely be able to earn merit and change his account to reach a higher rank.
And there are various boards you can discuss there, your discussion will definitely be valuable.

Since you want to understand how merit works before you start posting, that means that you're not new here, You're just pretending to be new member why you're not..it's someone who's new and also, has made series of posts without earning will ask this kind of question..but according your question you know what's merit already...

Merit is what forum members pursue, members earn merit through quality post, if you wants to earn a merit from high members, make sure you make a quality post that's worthy to emulate by other people, merit not come as you expected, but with the level of how creative and innovative you are in the forum, will make you to earn merit unexpectedly.

Point of correction, you are either not new here considering the date of your accounts registration and how long you have been posting in the forum. Only that you are still in the newbie rank which is as a result of your inactivity for the while and your inability to earn merits from the few posts you have made since then you signed up here.

To the other branch of the discussion, merits are not awarded according to forum ranks, it is awarded according to users posts quality via how constructive and valuable it is to other users. Then the post(s) can be merited by either merit sources or users with sMerits.

Perhaps post qualities can be competitive which experienced users could have better chances to earn it.
Every boards with commendable posts can be merited and not just limited to a certain section but major board sections has more advantage to attract merits.
