There are many altcoins but not all of them are useful for people.
That is why it is necessary to evaluate the potential of the altcoin to understand how it will be useful in the future.
Many altcoins have zero value and it is necessary to remember about this.

You explanation here said it all, that it's more of guessing and doing evaluation if any of them will be a little bit productive than being certain of the final outcome of it, that's why it's seen as more of gambling than investment, because after doing all that needs to be done, you can still invest in the wrong one and lose your hard earned money, so it's not a good idea to go all in when trying to take a risk on alt coin because they are not just reliable like Bitcoin. If you are hell bent on taking a risk on them, then it should be done with like 5% of your discretionary income, so that if as expected it fails, you wouldn't be troubled about it like when you go all in on it.
Many altcoins do not have use case and even if all of them start adding a use case to their projects investors would still be left with the opinions to choose whatsoever projects that want to invest in. Investors want to invest in projects where they will make a lot of money and we have been seeing reasons why many investors choose to pump money on memecoins instead of pumping the money on realm projects that have good use case and potentials.

The love of making money from their investment is changing how many of us see cryptocurrency. Even the newest investors are looking for ways they can be making money immediately without getting adequate knowledge about the crypto space.

It sucks when the masses start getting into spaces. The collective IQ of the crypto space has plummeted over time.

I think the problem is bigger than simply needing more altcoins or more "utility".

The market is flooded with projects competing for attention before they've given people a real reason to care. Every launch wants liquidity, followers and hype immediately.

Maybe a real return to altcoins starts with projects focusing less on manufacturing excitement and more on creating something people genuinely want to follow, use or be part of.

The 2013 feeling probably wasn't just about the coins. It was also about discovery. Everything felt like there was still something new to find.

I believe the altcoins comeback is going to take a long time. I'm in no hurry to see this happen. Pay close attention to the market to help determine your next move. Good luck.

Governments, all the way down to banks and institutional investment firms, are all talking about Bitcoin. Not Ethereum or any other rival.
Seriously i don't think their is any competitive project that can withstand Bitcoin. Immediately Bitcoin falls, all the entire altcoins market fell along and their is no coin that can withstand the drop. So many altcoins have not recovered from the fall and this may continue until any of these altcoins can grow a resistance to that. I am not sure if that will be possible.

I believe the altcoins comeback is going to take a long time. I'm in no hurry to see this happen. Pay close attention to the market to help determine your next move. Good luck.
It is really going to take a long time for us to experience the altcoins season again. The market has changed and I am not sure if this bear season is going to take longer since we have been seeing different speculations from whales and institutional firms claiming that the dip is not going to take longer. Maybe we should be expecting the altcoins season when the bear is over, that could be next year or by next two years. Let's keep watching!

I think it is just that nobody has dared to tackle the tough issues or that the space as a whole is blinded by ideology instead of focusing mainly on what works. However, as I have found out, this is basically a game of levers. You raise one and drop the other so it's a game of which gives the desired outcome when you account for the drawback of pulling the lever. The fact that governments and institutions are only talking about Bitcoin should be far more worrisome than comforting. Those are the people we are fighting against and I don't think we should be playing nice with them.

It may be wrong to assume that the altcoin market will recover after a certain period of time like before because now people are very aware that they want to avoid projects where their assets are at risk. But this does not mean that we will not see the altcoin season. Maybe the altcoin season may start again, but investors must pay more attention to those projects that have more confidence than others. After the price of Bitcoin increases, investors will try to invest in altcoins and at that time some altcoins can pump a lot. It is also true that not all altcoins will return to the bullish movement. After researching the altcoins well, the altcoins that have good utility, demand and strong ecosystem can perform the best in the market when the long-awaited alt season returns.

That is why our primary focus is on Bitcoin, alts are not able to give us the return which Bitcoin gives us over a period of time. The market is flooded with huge number of coins and we must refrain from investing in new coins that are launched with only reason of generating revenue for the team behind the project. Our money is under our control and if someone is investing in shitcoins only because some social media influencer is promoting such coin  and not because of his own research then he deserves to lose money.

I would argue that the purpose of Bitcoin or crypto was not to give you a return but to set you free. You are re-enslaving yourself with the mindset that Bitcoin/Crypto is only an investment. It needs to progress into a legitimate medium of exchange, and rather quickly, given the timelines on CBDC's. However, Bitcoin is currently being stewarded as digital gold as opposed to growing into a functioning monetary system.

It just feel like there's nothing like Alt season again. When I joined this industry new, I was hearing much hype about the altcoins season. It was very much anticipated in 2021, but bitcoin took the lead. Till now, I haven't witnessed the alt season. Is it not happening again? Has the market shifted and can no longer accommodate alt season.
I'm surprised that you are so pessimistic with altcoin season. Even the chance seems getting smaller, it doesn't mean "no chance" at all, right?   Wink
Well, if you have been in crypto in 2021, you must experience the altcoin season at that time. I'm not sure that you have no experience about the altcoin season.
I entered during the 2021 bull run and I was advised to buy Shiba and I did, it made some few last moves until it crashed on me. I was new then, so I can't really tell but Sol went so high then, including BNB, Ether and few other coins I could remember - was that the alt season?

Has the market shifted and can no longer accommodate alt season.

I know that when a market matures, many things will disappear naturally and no things will be introduced. Now I ask you, do you think there will ever be anything call alt season again?

We can't have alt season when half of the population of altcoins is more than the amount altcoins investors have to buy crypto in millions. Since the last time we experienced bull run of altcoins, the number of investors has reduced and that is because the altcoins are not interesting. Some people invested all their life earning into altcoins and they turn them from average person to poor people, they are bad as investment, the return are poor.
You made a lot of sense here. The population of the altcoins is far higher than that of investors and many of them projects are fake. Fake road map, fake volume to decieve investors and more. So, people will rather choose to invest in what they are sure rather than to gamble.

Until we learn weed out bad coins from good coins, we need to remove bad people from the crypto market, I don't like regulations but we need to make things friendly again and make sure the exchanges are ready for that growth because the exchanges are sent away from some regions. Binance for instance is not allow to work in some part of Europe, that means many people will not be able to have access to crypto again, these things contribute to why altcoins are not coming back again.
The only way to remove the bad players is through regulations. We should braze up and embrace regulations even if it will affect the innocent masses. The clarity bill would have been a big game changer.

Well, almost nobody thinks about freedom when using Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency. All people care about is to make as much money as possible by riding the hype. That's the way it is. Altcoins are often seen as "get rich quick" schemes, due to their experimental, and often times, inexpensive nature. Those who missed the Bitcoin train, are getting into alts with the hopes of getting wealthy in the long run. Nothing bad with dreaming, though.

Choosing the right altcoin, however, is difficult. Only a small few can be taken seriously. The rest are just pure junk. Do your own research to see what I mean. Good luck.

I think if a real return comes it wont look like 2021. Back then almost everything was just a chart, people bought first and looked for a use later (or never).

What's missing now is stuff people actually use without caring about the token at all. Cheap L2s made that possible, a few cents per transaction means you can build apps and even games where the chain is just the backend and nobody has to think about it. Until people show up for the product and not the chart, every "alt season" is mostly rotation imo.

There is something we are not paying attentions with altcoins. It's not about altcoin bull run, the question is if they pump, will they stay for long? All the coins that are pump are been dumped and this kills interest and trust of investors. You will see a coin have a very long monthly candle and the following month, everything dump with another candle, with such kind of mentality, people are not going to be interested in buying these coins because they dump after.

We need the return of utility interest of coins where the investors have strong hand to hold, when they can look at a coin and say I'm holding this coin, you will see that when the market is moving, many people wouldn't want to sell. The way people are so eager to make profit from this market, I really doubt if we are going to see the kind of bull run we have experience in 2021. If you look closely right from ICO, the interest has reduced drastically.

The 2013 feeling is still running in a few places, if you're willing to look at coins nobody is shilling.

Blazecoin launched on this forum in May 2014, scrypt proof of work, and the chain has never stopped. It lost its exchange when Cryptopia went down in 2019 and sat quietly for years, still making blocks. This year it
was rebuilt on Bitcoin Core 28 with the full 2014 history, and it now has per-block difficulty retargeting and post-quantum addresses alongside the old ones.

What makes it feel like 2013 rather than 2021:

  • You can mine it on hardware you have. USB sticks work next to big scrypt ASICs, and the pool starts everyone at a low difficulty.
  • The people involved are on this forum, answering in the ANN thread, not hidden behind a launchpad.
  • There's no token sale, no paid listing and no "partners". It went back on an exchange this week, with a market so thin it's a museum piece. Nobody should buy it expecting a return.

BedlamJester's point earlier in the thread is the honest one: what's missing is something people want to be part of, not more manufactured excitement. A small old chain that needs miners, node runners and people who
can read C++ is about as close to that as it gets.

If any of the OGs here want a 2014 codebase to work on together, it's here: ANN and source.

We still have an altcoin season in 2021. You must be aware that most altcoins could rise significantly at that time. It is much different with the performance of altcoins in the bullish season last year. We only have few altcoins that could increase quite well. It was because most people preferred to focus on Bitcoin. So, the funds weren't much flowed into altcoins. By the way, I also invested in SHIB and those top altcoins in 2021. I remember I could get good amount of profits at that time.  Smiley

I think if a real return comes it wont look like 2021. Back then almost everything was just a chart, people bought first and looked for a use later (or never).
Of course, crypto market has changed. The cycle isn't 100% the same as in the past. Moreover there is no big hype again in altcoins during the bullish season. So, the potential return (profits) in altcoins won't be as significant as in the past.

In today's day and time, it appears alt season has been replaced by meme season.  I don't believe there will be a real return to altcoins because way too many shitcoins exist and have proliferated, basically an oversaturation which causes those with potential to be overlooked because there is too much minutiae to be filtered through.  If there is a real return to altcoins, I don't believe it will look like any of the previous iterations.

The love of making money from their investment is changing how many of us see cryptocurrency. Even the newest investors are looking for ways they can be making money immediately without getting adequate knowledge about the crypto space.

Investors are not wiser than before, they don’t just put their money on any coin like they blindly did years back. Everyone one is now smarter than before and they will only invest their money where they will see potential profit from and not some random coin that they’ll end up losing in. So there is a high chance that even if the altcoin season comes, only those that invested big in them will benefit from it and not some random investors that are just after looking for whale movement to get to benefit from easily. You’ll need to do more work to profit from altcoins if they event come back today.

I would argue that the purpose of Bitcoin or crypto was not to give you a return but to set you free. You are re-enslaving yourself with the mindset that Bitcoin/Crypto is only an investment.
Some people are making use of bitcoin to make transactions, but you are going to find it difficult seeing people make use of altcoins for transactions, all what they do with altcoins is just for them to invest their money in them, they just want to make profits with them, some people don’t even know why bitcoin was created, they are into bitcoin just because they want to make money and that’s all. We should know that bitcoin and altcoins are created for a purpose, and it’s not for investment sake alone.

And those folks are precisely the fools pump & dump scammers are relying on. The old saying, "a fool and his money are soon parted" comes to mind...
Scammers will continue to be scammers. The people who will always fall for these scammers are those with long throat and are not even knowledgeable about the altcoins itself. I wish there were some sort of regulations within the altcoin community, it would have bring about a more organized community for the altcoin rathe than just having a crazy moment where most of the coins are launched to swindle people off their funds. If the community will have some sort of regulation or people identifying and quickly report scam alerts among others, it will go a long way to salvage the cases we face today.
