I think one generation is about 30 years and working with that, will Bitcoin last as longb as we imagine? Some private keys are already lost and many more are getting lost because their owners died without passing then on or they simply lost them.

Based on these possibilities, what do you think will happen in some decades when many of the private keys are lost?
So, what does a lost private key have to do with Bitcoin's continued existence as a potential asset for a generation say 30 years? Simply put, when a private key is lost, the bitcoins held cannot be recovered, leading to a significant price increase, in accordance with the laws of supply and demand. Whether Bitcoin will become a potential asset in the future as it is now, is difficult to predict. Given its rapid growth with widespread adoption and the various reasons that make it a potential asset, it seems difficult to see it disappearing.

I believe that an asset with strong fundamentals and limited holdings will survive under any circumstances. This refers to assets that have existed before, and given the ever-evolving sophistication of technology, it is also changing the way people hold assets as investments. The consequences of losing a private key are irreversible, so the bitcoin will be lost along with the loss of the private key.

Part of the previous generation did not give that importance of bitcoin as they should if they owned it today, then they would also have thought about inheritance to the next of kin and not just some cyberpunk currency to buy weed with. Wasting the money on drugs and hookers are not thing the youth of this century should do, because that decadence leads to health problems and mental stress which could be avoided.

If used properly and diligently, the money can be used to provide wealth to the next generations and grown beyond what one is owning today.

Keep your wallets secure, your next of kin educated about bitcoin and eventually pass it on to make sure your family grows.

Bitcoin have actually existed for 17years, which is equally more than half a generation and 2years. And because of that, I have no doubt that Bitcoin won't last longer again beyond a generation til a century time, because it has already proven itself for the last few years of being a trustworthy asset, and for the fact that it's last Bitcoin will be mined in the year 2141, which is more than 100years from now, it is enough reason for us to trust Bitcoin the more, and keep accumulating our portfolio, rather than worrying if it will last long or not. However, when it comes to people losing their private keys due to death, that's equally one reason that will make its value skyrocket the more when it's amount in circulation is now fewer.

I don't think Bitcoin is generational unless it is not properly passed to the younger generation but looking at the interest of the younger generation in crypto currency and especially Bitcoin it will be  impossible to have Bitcoin end with this generation and not move on to the next. For one loosing his pass phrase is normal I mean several persons at some points have probably had some points when they lost one or two log in to there crypto wallets and even Bitcoin but however I don't think there can be that time when everybody will lost there pass phrase at the time so at the end of the day Bitcoin will still definitely be passed on to the next generation. This is totally in my opinion.

Losing of password has being corrected and avoided by many who has lost before, and the new bitcoinners seams to be very careful when it comes to protecting their seed phrase and Passwords because of the value of bitcoin and it's worth

People are now wiser and more exposed to see the value and importance of bitcoin  than before and so they will also be passing on their inheritance with all necessary documents to avoid the lost of their assets because they don't know what bitcoin will turn out to be if they are gone in terms of it's value.

Only time will tell if bitcoin will continue but for now keep going on with how it flows .

"Don't look at the supply limit" and by just looking at the value doesn't make any sense. Rhe supply limit capped the value of Bitcoin. If you know maths total market cap depends on supply limit as well. Maybe that's the reason Bitcoin holds it's value because of hard-capped supply chain. Fiat currencies losses their purchase power because of their unlimited or infinite supply. And it's completely false that our own Bitcoin receives share of lost one. When keys are lost or something else happens those coins are lost forever that's how system works they are not shared among the ones who owns Bitcoin. The circular supply shrinks because those coins are removed from available market. And then the available coins holds more purchasing power they become more scarce. If we want to explain that Bitcoin will last next generation we should stick to some actual facts .

I think one generation is about 30 years and working with that, will Bitcoin last as longb as we imagine?
If the BTC-creator programmed the source code so that the final block would be mined in 2140, they likely envisioned that this cryptocurrency would survive at least until that time.

Some private keys are already lost and many more are getting lost because their owners died without passing then on or they simply lost them.
Even if we consider this negative scenario, it will still be possible to obtain bitcoin through mining until 2140.

Based on these possibilities, what do you think will happen in some decades when many of the private keys are lost?
It will be much the same (nothing) as what has happened over the past 15 years; this won't affect bitcoin in any way, since only a fraction of the keys will be lost (just as has happened before). Personally, I’d add that fewer BTC-keys will be lost going forward because the attitude toward this asset has shifted, it is now highly valued, compelling owners to safeguard their holdings more effectively (with the exception of Coldcard users).

And just in case: quantum computers will help here. Smiley

What of when nearly all are lost?
The BTC-community will "print" new bitcoins. Smiley Just kidding. I don't think that (all bitcoins lost) will happen; I’d consider it far more likely that bitcoin would "die" due to a lack of internet and electricity during a global apocalypse than that all of bitcoins would be lost.

Even though we may not know when this would be, I wonder what will happen when they're all lost.
Are answers to these flights of fancy really that important right now? Smiley Perhaps it would be better to focus on the positive, that bitcoin is here for the long haul - and act accordingly?

If you die today, will your coins be lost?
Like I said, let's consider positive scenarios. Smiley

Your topic sparked a thought (also in the context of the fact that some bitcoins is lost, leaving less bitcoins available for purchase by future generations): how much bitcoins will future generations be able to afford? After all, the amount of this asset on the crypto market will dwindle with each passing decade, assuming companies and countries continue to accumulate and hold onto BTC-reserves.

I doubt that is really possible.

Even if millions of BTC become inaccessible, Bitcoin’s supply limit remains unchanged, as the effective circulating supply simply shrinks.

What should be most concerning is ensuring that people can pass on their holdings securely without compromising self-custody. If I die today without a proper recovery or inheritance plan, that’s when my BTC could, indeed, be lost forever.

The future of bitcoin remains uncertain, and even if we are currently seeing it profitable, still that won't guarantee that it will stay the same in the future. Bitcoin comes with high volatility and high uncertainty most particularly its future that is left to unfold yet.
The future of crypto currency in general is not certain and there's also a high chance that Bitcoin goes through an evolution or it becomes unused in the next generation. It is possible that the next generation might come up with something that is better than Bitcoin but there are no certainties to this.

Quote
And once you die, that doesn't mean that your bitcoin will vanish as well. It will be left shared by the bitcoin community, so it does not really go wasted.
I don't really think that this is quite accurate, a person's assets can be untouched for years if no one can gain access to it. If the family members of the deceased cannot recover it then it is going to be kept in their wallet without it being accessed or shared, the only it can be recovered is through the private keys and if no one can provide this then it would be locked.

So it's a problem for us, bro. We have to think about it, but we are so stubborn and possessive that we don't want to give our coins to anyone, and we don't want to spend our coins on ourselves even haha. So we have to decide why we are even accumulating. Is holding until death really necessary for us? Is this really what we want?

So bro, we must use our money on ourselves and our loved ones, and if we can't, then we should at least arrange to give it to the next generation. Many people here are old and sick, and they must have enough time to plan for this. If they are not planning, then they are not ready to accept the reality, which is hard, I can understand that. But at some point, everyone has to accept the reality that we can't avoid death, and it won't wait for anyone.

The lost private key doesn't really matter there are a lot of lost Bitcoin or wallets that was already forgotten and never going to get open because owner lost it's key already so it is not going to be open anymore, we can just say that this Bitcoins are already burn in the supply, and that actually helps the Bitcoin supply because it is limiting the supply of Bitcoin bumping the market price of Bitcoin up a little bit depending on how many lost Bitcoin are there.

If there was no major flaw or issue come up for sure Bitcoin could stay for a long time, but just like what i've said in the past it wasn't something that was a guaranteed profit, we don't know if in the next coming years Bitcoin would still exist someone could cracked Bitcoin possibly then for sure it is going to cause FUD and destroy Bitcoins foundation we never know, some war could get started and Bitcoin might not be a thing anymore something like that, it just wasn't guaranteed.

That is why it is still recommended to diversify and only put a small percentage of your income into cryptocurrency so that if something happened, you still have a solid financial foundation. I mean, it was just one of the riskiest investments that you could make with your money, so always have a good backup plan.

Your stress shouldn't bother on the fate of others who lost their keys and their coins,  neither should how long Bitcoin is going to last bother you so much that it may become a distraction to you. Your main interest at this time should be more about how much you can get and how well you can utilise the opportunities around Bitcoin now that you could witness Bitcoin,  sometimes I feel we allow some little things stres us and distract us from the best that we can get.

So far we have seen Bitcoin continually improved and increased in value,  we have also seen institutions and states beginning to consider Bitcoin,  so all of that put together should be enough reason to believe Bitcoin is going to be around for quite some time, so needless of the fears of how long we will have Bitcoin around for.

If it were something we are not going to have around for long time,  i think these institutions and states would likely not see a future with it enough for them to commit to it. Currently nobody can tell exactly how long Bitcoin is going  to be around for and again, the lost keys and wallets holding Bitcoins that will eventually not be usable ever again will also impact supply which will in turn improve the value of Bitcoin for the best, so rather than bother about all of that, seize the opportunity to own a unit now when you can, so that by then, you will be counting your profits.

I think one generation is about 30 years and working with that, will Bitcoin last as longb as we imagine? Some private keys are already lost and many more are getting lost because their owners died without passing then on or they simply lost them.
Some private keys are getting lost and more will likely get lost but the rate at which private keys are getting lost is reduced due to the abundant presence of CEXs.

Based on these possibilities, what do you think will happen in some decades when many of the private keys are lost?
Bitcoin will become more scarce...

What of when nearly all are lost?
Nearly all won't be lost, and it seems you are not considering the quantum computer attack?

Even though we may not know when this would be, I wonder what will happen when they're all lost.
All BTC will not be lost...

If you die today, will your coins be lost?
No!
