While I was looking at bets on the World Cup match to be played tonight on a few different platforms, I came across this:

You can bet on how many times the commentator will say certain words during the Argentina vs. Spain match. For example, there’s an 82% chance he’ll say “VAR” and a 50% chance he’ll say “hat trick.” Since this is a market with relatively low volume, I thought maybe not everyone has noticed it yet. What do you think about this market? I think it makes sense to bet on certain words with odds around 50–60%.

It is not right to assume that there is good value just by looking 50-60% odd. These commentator words markets of Polymarket are settled based on specific rules. Only live comments from commentators of official English FOX broadcast are counted. Pre match, post match, guest analysts or anyone else's words are not taken into account. So there is no guarantee that even if the word VAR or hat trick occurs in the match, the commentator will say it.

Another thing is, as you said the volume of this market is low. In a market with low liquidity few large order can move odds a lot. Now around the World Cup, Polymarket has increased this type of micro market a lot and they are also becoming popular. But being popular and being profitable are not the same thing. For me, rules, commentator's style and liquidity are more important than emotion here. If you jump in just by looking at 50-60% odd without understanding these, I think the market will punish you.

Let me tell you one funny or sad thing about gambling especially in betting, you can be seeing a team win all the time but that day you will play them to win that is the day they are going to lose and you can also be seeing a team play over corners but the day you will play them over corners you will be praying for a corner and so on and so forth. You maybe hearing this comment all this while but don't be surprised that if you play the option today you may not hear it at all not trying to discourage you though just a possibility.

Don't you think that is extortion from polymarket?
This is my first time of hearing this type of market options from gambling site,
Not just from gambling site but polymarket and I think this not normal because how would the gambler be able to know common words that commentator would use in that specific event.
To them it's something that would bring more benefits to them because such an unpredictable market could be hard for gamblers to make winning from it.

There are so many options to gamble on , and choosing a particular option depends on the choice of a gambler. I don't really like betting on every option because I feel some options are more riskier than others. From the numerous options displayed on the gambling site , I usually choose option with high probability of becoming successful despite little that odd might be than choosing high risk option , and recording numerous losses.
In the case of predicting how many times the commentator will say a word before the match ends, it is actually a very high risk prediction, and I cannot go or gamble on such high risk option.

I guess that everyone from polymarket is aware of these advantages that the predictions that are put into their platform.

But we can also just believe it for the benefit of the doubt that most of these predictions like this are for the fun.

No taking advantages which I really doubt and unlikely to believe. In the end, it's still polymarket will make profit from all of these bets like betting what announcer will say or if there will be apocalypse, whatsoever.

The main responsibility of commentators or media personalities is not to give perfect predictions, but to increase the ratings of the show. They create a kind of story that the general audience likes to hear when a team suddenly does well, they promote it as if they will become champions tomorrow. Those who take this entertainment talk as a serious financial investment or betting decision, end up losing money. You should prioritize real market data and your own personal analysis, rather than falling into the trap of hype or emotions of so called experts.

Do not let these commentators know that their self-talk is at stake in the Polymarket, fearing manipulation. Lol

I don't know which odds are higher and the most commentators say later, it's like it's difficult to predict, even I myself am not interested at all.

Come on... I prefer to bet on his matches only, not outside the match.
This is totally plausible, manipulation is real and we could be seeing a case similar to the recent "teleprompter " issue with the U.S government. Imagine such odds on what a commentator would possibly say, the market should have enough money to pay for winnings that come when manipulation sets in, how does that even happen?

But to the greatest surprise, we would still see more losses than winnings. I saw in this thread that such options are counted during the match and not prematch, though I don't see the authenticity of that information.

Were you surprised to see such kind of bet? You don't have to be, mate. I think there are still quite a lot things left to be added to the predictions platform's market, things like: the colour of shoe the commentators or player is going to put on, if the commentator or player will smile or not and how many times they are likely to smile.

The reason I'm saying this is because of the different kind of bet they have added already such as the number of times a player is likely to drink water in that match. It was a thread created few weeks ago that showed it, I have searched the topic but couldn't find it cuz I can't remember the title again.

It's no surprise as this kind of platform as open for this kind of betting, and as much as it really sounds silly. But they are going to accept if because they know that there could be bettors who are going to put their money on the line despite pathetic it is.

And if there are gamblers on it, then they will not stop it. But if you are a smart bettors, you should know that this is pure manipulation. And who knows, maybe this announcer will put a huge bet on it. So I won't be shock by it. Recently we have reports that even Trump's teleprompter won huge money from insider information.

Honestly. imagine  a commentator is aware of this and plays a bet while making a including VAR in any small statement he makes, would that be tagged to be manipulation? As far as i am concerned, i find this really off because it will take us to a place where we are not going to only complain that players are engaging in some act of gambling and allowing it to affect their play, we are going to see commentators hustling with what they are saying about a game. the thing is that as long as it remains, it only means that it is benefitting the casino and nothing more.

You must be new to sports betting if you believe everything they say. I’m not saying they’re paid to mislead us, but they usually say what the public wants to hear. The simple logic is that if the majority of bettors lose, then it may be better to consider the opposite side. That’s why betting against the public is such a popular strategy.

Of course, it won’t work every time, but I think it can still be effective in many situations. You can listen to some of their opinions, but you should always do your own research and verify the information. Following anyone blindly is a recipe for disaster, so be careful.

You read my mind because I was already thinking that way after reading the op post lol. Yes, the possibility of such repeatition is possible if the commentators get to know that whatever they say is going to be bet on. And believe me they will know because bettors will try to be smart and get them to know through calls or social media handles so that they can repeat certain key words on bet or the ones they have betted on. Words like VAR is certain to be mentioned over time without prior knowledge or information of the bet but it will be more in use if they are aware.

This goes to show that there are possibilities of manipulation in different football tournament and bets. Club owners too can be involved in such manipulation using their players and club. Therefore, betting on how many times VAR is mentioned could be manipulative.

What do you think about this market? I think it makes sense to bet on certain words with odds around 50–60%.
I think prediction market is really creating opportunities to cheat in predictions, commentators can take that advantage and tip friends on what to bet and secure wins easily. I think these kind of predictions should be controlled not to kill the fun of the game. I will not place the bet course, unless I have an insider knowledge. Betting on sportsbook is better for me than this, it's a very easy way to lose money and I'm not surprised the market volume is low.

Well, I don't know what other gamblers use as their strategies for gambling but as for myself I don't use commentaries nor how many times they are going to plays corners or the numbers of corner kicks in a game to bet and sometimes if this commentators are aware that people are using those tactics to bet you already know what that means they will intentionally limits how they use it so people that might have used that as their options won't win.

Gambling has many manipulative ways on how games can't be win easily so you won't expect commentaries on a particular word to win big money for you, I do all the stakings on odds, stats and team performances not on verbal words from commentary I'm not surprised if other are betting with that because in the world of gambling anything can be used to stake a bet.

If you say that such bets are made on polymarket prediction betting sites, honestly in my opinion such bets are not strange or surprising, that is how polymarket prediction site operators work, it is difficult to explain using scientific reasoning.

Polymarket is known as a prediction site that often makes unreasonable bets, for example fines, punishments for football players or there are also bets suspended during the league, this is not much different from the broadcaster's bets that the OP said.

I remember yesterday's 2026 World Cup round of 16 match, I also saw the Polymarket prediction site, making a bet on Cristiano Ronaldo, the bet stated.

"Will Cristiano Ronaldo cry during the match?"

We just answer yes or no, even though it seems strange, that's the fact of the matter, that's how the Polymarket prediction market treats its gamblers.

It looks fun, but I don't like that kind of bet. I'd rather bet with a sports bookmaker that I actually like and that offers a lot of markets. But it's all related to matches, not some silly thing whose results are actually hard to prove. With that in mind, would you count the words spoken by the commentators yourself to validate the accuracy of the betting results?

While I was looking at bets on the World Cup match to be played tonight on a few different platforms, I came across this:

https://polymarket.com/event/what-will-the-announcers-say-during-argentina-vs-spain-world-cup-match-20260716154956883

This is a very risky bet, it's a luck-based prediction, how the fuck am I to estimate how many times the commentator says "VAR" for example? I don't like this kind of prediction at all and would just stick to my sports book where things looks more real to me. I will not place this kind of bet, it's just not fun and engaging at all to me.

I have always had my doubts about the poly market. I personally am not in favor of shining a light on the issues you mentioned. A lot can happen here. The commentators may be directly involved with the gamblers of the poly market in this case, in which case no one can say how many times they will utter those words with their mouths. To be honest, they can manipulate the betting on the side where the betting range is higher, that is, in favor of the policy makers, to determine the win or loss in the betting.

HAHAHAHAHA this is actually a funny way to bet on games! By basing it on the words that the announcer would say, I would assume that there is a higher chance for you to win in this process? However, I am very much doubtful of its integrity given that its determination is solely focused on the words uttered which can potentially be rigged.

I would try this and probably spend like $10-$50 just to see on how entertaining it would be.

This is exactly my point. What if the commentator knows about the existence of polymarket? He can intentionally control the outcome of the game which would definitely be on his absolute favor. Imagine, these kinds of bets are not regulated compared to sports-betting which is heavily guarded given that you can see if someone intentionally loses the game, etc.

Nothing to be surprised about when it comes to these prediction markets, you can almost bet on anything. If you can bet on Maduro's capture or that certain words would be said in a public speech, then surely you can bet on what the commentators would say often in a football match, lol.

Many of us would consider it ridiculous, but as long as there are people who actually put their money on things like these, we would continue to see ridiculous options like this.
