Bitcoin investment is not something you buy and put pressure on it to grow over night. When bitcoin will reach $256k nobody knows, but it is not something that is impossible for bitcoin to achieve. The price of bitcoin when it was invented is not what it is today. So if over the years, the price got to the last all time high of over $120k, then we should be fully convinced that in years to come bitcoin will touch and exceed the $256k you are making reference to. So don’t invest money you can’t lock up in bitcoin for years.

Bitcoin investment is about time not about timing. In my opinion, it is not impossible for Bitcoin to reach a price of $256k because its value history has proven every cycle.
  • 2013 ATH: $1,100
  • 2017 ATH: $19,000 (up 17x)
  • 2021 ATH: $69,000 (up 3.6x)
  • 2024/25 ATH: $126,000 (up 1.7x)
"Please correct me if I'm wrong."

Even though each cycle the increase is smaller, the point is that Bitcoin value continues to rise. The $256k price is only 2x of $126k, from a mathematical and adoption perspective, it makes perfect sense in the next 1 or 2 cycles.
While we never know when that figure will be reached, looking at Bitcoin's track record over the past 15 years, it's not impossible that it could be reached.

$256 sounds absolutely ridiculous today, just like $100k did in 2015. The question now is not about how much Bitcoin will cost in the future, but how many sats we have accumulated in the next 5 or 10 years from now from the money that is not used for other needs.

However, if you want to stick with Bitcoin to achieve that 200%, I think you can try allocating part of your money to BTCFi and futures trading. So instead of just holding, make your BTC productive through lending, borrowing, restaking, etc.

Learn futures trading and only use 5 to 10% of that allocation. With good trading skills and proper risk management, you could probably achieve a 200% return faster, possibly even before Bitcoin itself reaches a 200% price increase. In that case, you would be able to outperform Bitcoin.
All what you said above is a wrong advice because they will make you lose your money easily and you will end up in regrets. Why will you stake your bitcoin in the first place when bitcoin isn't mined through staking it goes against the purpose of creating bitcoin.

Haven't you heard about not your keys not your coins. When you stake your bitcoin, you have given it to a third party and you can easily lose your bitcoin which doesn't make sense. This is the problem with gamblers, they think that they can outsmart bitcoin performance and make more profit through trading but the opposite is always the case.

Newbies should see trading as a highly risky thing and don't think of trading because it's easy to make profit with mouth than when trading. Even if the people who proclaim that they are professional traders cannot out perform someone who's DCAing in the long run because the long term investor is only buying and not selling.

says that people should learn more about Bitcoin before they invest any money. Many of the new traders look at the profit opportunity and forget about the volatility and length of time that the asset will exist. No matter what approach you take, whether lump sum or DCA. It can only be done on a realistic basis if you invest money that you can afford to set aside for several years. There are ways to make a significant return on your investment if you are a small investor. But generally it's more about the patience. Consistency and knowledge that you have.
Well said, which is why every new investor ought to acquire basic knowledge of investing in Bitcoin, both its pros and the cons of it before deciding on an investment method because without verify  the information they receive, they will keep making mistakes by applying the wrong principles which could ruin their plans, which will help them to remain responsible and disciplined kos that's how small investors can profit from their investment.

You are right, but I think before anyone can decide to invest, they should first understand how Bitcoin works properly, as they will understand the options that are better for them to achieve success because investing blindly can lead them to financial issues, which might ruin their emotions including their personal relationships. A lot of people do invest without knowing the right principles to apply and when to apply it, so that before getting started, they understand important a strong foundation is.
You don't need to understand how bitcoin works properly or a strong foundation in bitcoin knowledge before you can get started because bitcoin knowledge is broad and will make you continue delaying to get started when you already have your discretionary income. You only need you discretionary income and common sense to figure out how much from your discretionary income can enable continue buying Bitcoin with DCA overtime.

Since you're a long term bitcoin investor, you have more than enough time to learn bitcoin as you have started your bitcoin investment. So, don't waste your time trying to know it all and still remain as a no coiner because it doesn't show any signs of seriousness that you want to invest ASAP and build your bitcoin investment gradually.

Investing and learning simultaneously is the best because you will get real life experience on what you're learning about bitcoin and also be in a better position than who hasn't started accumulating bitcoin. If you choose to wait for acquire what you call proper knowledge, you will miss out a lot of opportunities in the market that you should have used to grow your bitcoin stash overtime. Don't forget that time and bitcoin price waits for no one.

A low coiner who just bought his first bitcoin is in a better position than a bitcoin theory expert that is a no coiner.

Op is just over thinking but I don't blame him, it's a typical newbie behaviour and that's fine but too much pressure and lack of patience have ruin many potential investors. $256k is very achievable if we compare it to what has happened in the past cycles. From the latest ATH to $256k is just a 2x and we've seen much more higher x in the past cycles from the previous ATH to new ATH. There's no guarantee it will happen but we can not say it's impossible either.

It's difficult to address newbies on issue like this that involve price because they're likely to mistaken possibility and guarantee. The price is not even the hard part when holding BTC because we've seen it breaking the price that we once thought it's impossible. The hard part is how to remain patience and calm without panic selling when the market is in the stage of uncertainty.

So in this case, not financial advice... finding a good performing altcoin, trading memecoins, or other high risk assets that can offer you a chance for higher gains could be a good choice. But, of course, higher potential returns come with a much higher probability of losing money.
Once an investor start considering this an an option, then he is no longer investing, instead he is either trading or gambling which put his capital in huge risk. Investment in Bitcoin needs patience, so if you cannot be patient with it, and you go ahead to gamble and take stupid risk on alt and meme coin, just know that you  will cry sooner or later.
[...]

Couldn't agree more. Been there, done that. IMO, gambling disguised as trading is even worse than gambling in a casino. When you lose in trading, you lose everything, time, energy, money, and it leaves you feeling stressed.

When you lose in a casino, you may lose money and energy, but time? I don't think you lose time because you gamble in a casino to have fun mostly. At least you enjoy the game instead of staring at charts, analysing them, and reading or watching tons of news.

[...]
So instead of just holding, make your BTC productive through lending, borrowing, restaking, etc.
I may not kick against lending and borrowing your Bitcoin to someone you are confident can repay you back with interest, but what I kick against is re-staking  that you spoke of, that's a very big mistake anyone should ever make, because staking comes with high risk where your Bitcoin will be at risk of hacking or theft in that period of time your are staking/locking it in an exchange.
[...]

Yeah, as I said, higher potential returns come with a higher probability of losing money. I was just trying to share some things OP can do that could potentially, despite the risk, outperform BTC's growth. It's just to show that there's still a chance for people with small capital to get big returns in the Bitcoin space, even if they are not early adopters.

Also, the borrowing and lending I mentioned above are through third party or on chain services, so there's always the risk of the platform being hacked and you ending up losing all your money too.

[...]
Learn futures trading and only use 5 to 10% of that allocation. With good trading skills and proper risk management, you could probably achieve a 200% return faster, possibly even before Bitcoin itself reaches a 200% price increase. In that case, you would be able to outperform Bitcoin.
It's easier said than done bro, and as a matter of fact, trading is the most difficult skill to attain. If trading is that easy, don't you think that many traders would have been filthy rich by now?
Just buy and accumulate consistently, because having a large stash of it is the only way you can make it big, when Bitcoin has gone to a million dollar or more, not by messing around with shit coin or trading the market that will do you more harm than good.

Yeah, it's just the theory. Many people probably know the theory, know how to do technical and fundamental analysis, and still end up with big losses. Based on the stats I read, less than 1% of day traders consistently make profits after fees in the long run [1]. But this also tells you there's still a chance of becoming part of that <1% group.

IMO, buying and holding only works when you have enough money to accumulate a meaningful amount of BTC. In OP's post, he used the example of $1,000. So if you're only relying on that amount, even with DCA, the chance of the BTC you accumulate making a meaningful difference is low.

Here, I think OP is trying to find the META, the Most Effective Tactic Available, to make his $1,000 investment in BTC grow as much as possible as quickly as possible. So buying and holding is probably not one of them.

I tried to find Bitcoin's CAGR and found a VanEck post about it. According to them, Bitcoin's CAGR (base to bull case) would be in the range of 15 to 29% until 2050. Meanwhile, other institutions estimate it could be between 10 and 30%. So let's just use the median, 15%.

2026: $64,235 [3]
2030: ~$112k
2035: ~$226k
2040: ~$455k
2045: ~$914k
2050: ~$1.84 million per BTC

In OP's case, based on this CAGR, BTC would be able to triple in price (+200%) by 2034. So if he invests a lump sum in BTC, it would take about 8 years from now to reach his goal.

Note: This is just based on the thoughts of my potato brain.

[...]
All what you said above is a wrong advice because they will make you lose your money easily and you will end up in regrets. Why will you stake your bitcoin in the first place when bitcoin isn't mined through staking it goes against the purpose of creating bitcoin.

Even if the people who proclaim that they are professional traders cannot out perform someone who's DCAing in the long run because the long term investor is only buying and not selling.

Custody risk? Yes. Risk always exists, even if the control is 100% yours. There's always room for human error. But the point is not about the risk, it's about the options available. So, don't generalize it because it's specific to OP's case.

Also BTW, Babylon offers what they claim is self custodial Bitcoin staking. Currently, 51,220.58 BTC is staked. That's about $3.29B. I haven't tried it yet. You can read more about it.

About the statement that long term investors only buy and never sell, hmm... is Saylor still a BTC maxi?

I don't know how you guys are thinking of bitcoin investment, it is not important for you to have the knowledge of Bitcoin before you can invest on it, bitcoin is different from any other coins that is why immediately you decided to invest, you just go in directly. By the time you made up your mind in investing in Bitcoin, the only thing that is required of you is to have your discretionary income, once this is achieved, start investment immediately before you can even start to have your emergency funds, in the process you continue to build your investment, emergency fund and also discretionary consumption.

Or are there other ways to make money with bitcoin as a small investor rather than just buy and hold?
There are other ways that you can make money, but they are very risky. My advise is that you should just hold your coins. It is easy, not time demanding and the profit is guaranteed than other means. Bitcoin is not at its early stage anymore which makes its price not volatile as it was before.
You’re very correct, holding bitcoin is one of the fastest investments strategies because it doesn’t give room for someone to be monitoring their market always. For those who believe in bitcoin long term, with patience it has been prove that it will pay. But I don’t totally agree that profit is guaranteed. Because nothing in this life has a 100% guarantee, and bitcoin isn’t left out.

Although bitcoin is more mature than before and it’s not volatile like the early years, the price still goes rise and fall which is normal. Anyone who wants to buy bitcoin is suppose to understand that short term losses can still occur. The main benefit of holding bitcoin is that it helps people avoid risk from day trading, or chase quick return. If someone decides to buy consistently, don’t invest money that they will be needing urgently, and hold for years, the chances of getting good returns is more better than trying to out smart the market on a daily basis.

I disagree with you saying that someone does not need knowledge about Bitcoin before start it Bitcoin investment. How is it possible for me to invest in something I know nothing about?if you say that someone does not need deep knowledge about Bitcoin before starting to invest, I would likely agree. However, not even having basic knowledge about Bitcoin? How is it possible to make the right investment decisions without understanding the basics? Before anyone invests in Bitcoin, they need to understand the risks involved. Therefore, I advise every beginner to learn the fundamentals of Bitcoin and Bitcoin investing first. In fact, without basic knowledge of Bitcoin investing, how will someone know that they should build an emergency fund before accumulating Bitcoin to prepare for unforeseen financial problems? So, we all need to gain some basic knowledge that will guide us from the very beginning.

falls back to the mindset some people use when investing. If you don’t have the consistency or the patience to wait for your investment to mature, don’t invest in the first place, you might as well just stick to trading if you have the time and enough knowledge to remain profitable in the market. If you ask people who do investments in the physical currencies they will tell you what their targets are, some people have a target of 15 years before they can come back to touch that investment, so if you are looking at investing in bitcoin, stop thinking of what the price will be this year and the next, just keep investing with the intention to take your dividends when it is mature enough particularly with the time frame you have given yourself as a target.

There have been so many newbies that are buying Bitcoin without having full understanding about how Bitcoin investment works.
They may feel like if other people are making money from Bitcoin by buying and holding, they can also make money from the market when they buy and hold too. They may have forgotten that is not by buying and holding only but buying Bitcoin at the right time.
The market is big enough to swallow our Bitcoin accumulation and we have to do it in the right way that will not make us to buy at the top when real investors are waiting to buy at the dip.

says that people should learn more about Bitcoin before they invest any money. Many of the new traders look at the profit opportunity and forget about the volatility and length of time that the asset will exist. No matter what approach you take, whether lump sum or DCA. With what I have been able to understand about bitcoin investment, i don’t think it is possible to have the full understanding about bitcoin investment as a newbie before investing. once you start investing, then you keep learning. As a newbie what is important at first is just the basics, because as a newbie you can never get to understand everything without been into it. There are some theories that actually need practical for one to have more knowledge or understanding of what that study is about.

Having a huge capital gives you an advantage but it doesn't mean that Small investors cannot make significant profits from it. Everyone's capacity is not the same and Bitcoin isn't only for the rich, the most important thing is to have a source of income. If you are a small investor you must learn to be patient because you'd have to hodl for a long period of time.

Don't make the mistake of trying to find a perfect timing to invest especially during the bear season, this is a common mistake that a lot of people make. You can use DCA to keep on buying the dip if there's consistent decline in the price of Bitcoin

You have no business with checking the price of Bitcoin as a small investor because your goal is actually that of a long term.

What the focus of your statement, investment or trading?  Undecided
If you mean investors, they don't need to feel so worried about the volatility. It even becomes a chance for them to gain the maximum profits. As investors, they should hold for years, they won't care with the current price changes. It will be different if you refer to traders, sure they can be worried because they set a plan for taking profits in a short time.

No matter what approach you take, whether lump sum or DCA. It can only be done on a realistic basis if you invest money that you can afford to set aside for several years.
Sure, we must invest with safe money. It means it is our excessive money that it won't have an impact to our financial stability once we invest in Bitcoin for several years.

There are ways to make a significant return on your investment if you are a small investor.
What ways do you refer to?
It is better to share them here, so your suggestion can be complete.

You're right the challenge honestly most times is not usually the price of Bitcoin when holding you're Bitcoin but you see patience have always been a problem with Bitcoin investors. Investors tend to be in a panic most of the times and usually don't have the holding power for a longer time especially when they see the uncertainty of the price of Bitcoin but then in my opinion if you can actually hold for a longer time and exercise patience without panicking and or fear of loses them you can be sure to make a good profit in the long run.
So if you ask me about small investors making profit in Bitcoin I would say yes small investors can actually make profit in Bitcoin if they can have patience and not panic or fear.

I don't think it's that simple  if you have a little extra money (discretionary income) in hand you should start buying Bitcoin directly without paying attention to the emergency fund. Before giving any advice to beginners we need to talk with a little balance because everyone's real life and financial situation are not the same. In my view the main source of any investment should definitely be discretionary income  that is the money that is left in your pocket after meeting all the necessary expenses of daily life rent food, medical care and mandatory expenses. But that doesn't mean that you should blindly pour money into Bitcoin without making any preparations for the day of danger. Let's think about it with a simple example. Suppose a person started buying Bitcoin today. Just a few weeks later suddenly a family crisis arose or his job was lost or his business experienced a recession. If he doesn't have an emergency fund now he will have to sell Bitcoin and cash it out right at that moment. And if by chance the market is down, he will face a huge financial loss. In reality most new investors do not lose because of Bitcoin or the market's failure but rather are forced to sell Bitcoin at the wrong time due to the pressure of their personal finances. So I am not in favor of tying it to a strict rule like this first and that second. Rather I think it is most realistic to pursue both goals in parallel. Suppose you put a part of the extra money you have every month in Bitcoin Accumulation (DCA), and use the rest gradually to build a safe emergency fund. In this way you are not only connected to the immense potential of Bitcoin but also preparing yourself to face any difficult situation. The most important thing is that you don't need a huge amount of money to succeed in Bitcoin. Saving small amounts regularly being patient, proper risk management and a long-term perspective are the four things that are the real game here. When you have a solid financial foundation you will have zero mental stress. No matter how big the market is down, you will be able to sleep peacefully because your emergency fund is guaranteed and you will stay away from stupid things like panic selling. At the end of the day, buying Bitcoin is as easy as it is to build the ability to hold it in adverse times. And that ability depends entirely on your personal financial preparation. Therefore, beginners should be guided in such a way that they can not only accumulate Bitcoin but also hold onto the financial security of their lives in a strong hand.

As an investor you dont get to be the one determining the % profit yourself, that would be dictated by how long you are investing and where you are investing.

Typically, I expect upto 10% profit in bitcoin over the years as the bull and bear markets cycle. But if you are looking for higher gains you can go for short term trading, putting money into funds that advertise such returns without understanding how they function and eventually lose the money because you got greedy.

The more you play it unsafe, the more you are likely to lose money here is the simple way of explaining it. If you want to invest in MLM/HYIP then go for it, you will learn your lesson yourself.

Talking about the statement highlighted, this is one of the reasons why most Bitcoin investors have problems in their investment because they tend to go all in believing that they are certainly going to be in profit if they can buy and hold for a very long time. It's true that Bitcoin is full of potential, but their is not a guarantee that it will skyrocket in the future, that's is why we are adviced to invest from our discretionary income, which is a fund we can do away with, because profit is not a sure thing as you are proclaiming.
We live in a world where anything can happen, so saying as long as you can hold for a very long time, you are sure of being in profit, that's misleading if you don't know.

It is important to be patient. But by no means a promise of profit. While Bitcoin has been a strong performer over the years. No one can be certain about what it will perform in the future. Hence, only disposable income should be invested as it is the safest and most convenient way, particularly for small investors. Going all in puts undue stress on one and can make emotional decisions when the markets correct. But with a disciplined DCA strategy, some realistic expectations and a long-term outlook, investors have a far greater chance of staying invested and seeing their investment pay off if Bitcoin continues to rise in the future.
