This is an interesting topic so to speak but before starting it you should have used the search tool to find out if something similar like this has already been created on the forum.

Haven't said that, the solution is simply, get a trusted close family member of yours either any of your children, your spouse, you sister or your brother, let it be someone you can always count on even when you aren't there. Make he/her understand everything about your holdings, wallet and everything in regards to your investment holdings, and let the person in question know why you are entrusting those assets in his custody and that you know you can always count on him regardless. Therefore, through this means, you have automatically entrusted your assets into a reliable hands that even if you are no more someone can still continue your legacy for it not to be wasted just like that.

Why not just handle things through a lawyer instead, let them handle it like your every other asset; that is, if it is a really significant amount of Bitcoin. Cause if you say you want to trust a family member with your keys, they probably might take from it even if it's a trusted family member.
A relative is better,  there has to be someone in your family you trust the most, a lawyer can only come in when you don't have any one in your family you trust. Anyways I have my next of kin and I will also be willing him my informations, even though you don't have anyone to trust you your children can be there to take over, after all all your properties goes to them after your gone regardless of you trusting them or not so giving to your children is also another good option.

This is a very important question for everyone both on this forum and everyone in the outside world. It is not only bitcoin assets that people loose on a daily basis after the demise of their loved ones, some rich homes loose as large as buildings, various amounts of money in the banks and hidden cash. Now when you come into bitcoin, it is even much easier for people to loose all their assets and never get recovered in anyway. Some people loose their bitcoin in this money either due to lack of trust on any of their family members or related reasons. Once a person starts getting involved in bitcoin, it is advisable to have a reliable next of kin who will not be only focused on your bitcoin, who really cares for your welfare in order not to risk loosing your bitcoin to your next of kin even when you are alive.

If you are married, the first point of safety should be your wife until you have a child that is old enough to understand bitcoin and wallet handling. Don't be overly stingy and fearful about either your wife selling your bitcoin when you are still alive but also think of how painful it will be if your people know that you have bitcoin stored somewhere but can not recover such bitcoin. It will be lost forever and your hardwork will also be lost. But do not just release your seed phrase to anyone you see, test it they truly love you and also test that the person won't break into your wallet while you are still alive.

Most of us buying Bitcoin, doing DCA, using a hardware wallet, or storing our seed phrase safely. But I wanted to ask you a question,

If something happens to me today, will my family be able to recover my Bitcoin?
-Snip-
This is a million-dollar question that no one has found the perfect answer to.

I read your suggestions, and they are cool. But we should know that what fits Mr A may not be good for Mr B. This is why we should adjust it based on who we are, the kind of family we have, the value of Bitcoin we have, etc.

TBH, many people are wasting their Bitcoin to eventualities; that's a fact. But is that fair? Certainly not!. This is why we should think beyond ourselves, but find a lasting solution for others to have access to it in case of death. My best approach is to involve a lawyer with part of the seed phrase (in a will) and a trusted family member(s) who do not know the lawyer for the remaining part of the words in the phrase.

If my wife is going to get access to my seed phrase, then I won't show her how to withdraw from decentralized wallet to Fiat, but another, if she knows a trusted friend of mine that understand Bitcoin, she might take my seed phrase to them and lie for them that it's hers. But before then, I'll advise my friends to be aware of my tactics on her, that they should never teach her how to go about it. Until I will have children, then my child will have access to my keys, but never know how to withdraw.

I will instruct them, that untill I am gone, they will meet any my friends to teach them how to go about the withdrawal.

The best thing to do is to trust someone, you can decide to tell your wife or husband and any of your child you believe is responsible, if you don’t have a child or you are not married you can tell any of your siblings that you trust very well and you believe is responsible.
A lot of people have die and there bitcoin gone forever, I know trusting people with your bitcoin is very difficult but you have no other option if you don’t want to lose your bitcoin forever, if you can’t use it at least let your family use it.

Now, If you suddenly became unavailable today, would anyone in your family be able to recover your Bitcoin safely? What else would you add to a Bitcoin inheritance plan?

So here is the thing, if you die without willing your Bitcoin asset to your family members then you are doing the network a bit good because you are taking the Bitcoin you had with you out of circulation. This means with inflow of money into the market then there is a high chance the Bitcoin currently circulating gets more value because we now have less Bitcoin in the market so don't feel bad as you're doing the community a big good.

For anyone that is interested in passing down their Bitcoin through their family tree then apart from willing it through a lawyer (law firm) then they can also go through the traditional means of teaching their family member about Bitcoin then teaching either their spouse or children on how to access the Bitcoin that you are currently saving as an inheritance for them if you pass away.

You can install a safe vault in the house and store all the seed phrase/private key in the safe and only give the code to your spouse or maybe as a will that will be read when you pass away. Doing it like this solves your problem easily without having to overthink things.

You don't have to die, and neither does your Bitcoin. Try to put some things in place today against tomorrow because no one knows the future. We expect good things to happen, and we also have to prepare against the worst in case it isn't as we expected.

Make the necessary decision to start securing your assets and create an alternative access to them by someone you could confide trust; this is not because you want to create a vulnerability or additional access to your assets, but you are being logical and reasonable, understanding how you could also develop trust in those you could confide your assets with.

Sometimes it is always good to share someone's information because something can happen anytime or any minute a scenario where this information is or are not been shared with someone and the person died, the assets or properties can actually die away with the person or someone who knew how come about the property can even go ahead and claim it on the other hand, sometimes the people we shared information with can go behind our back so that is why it is not advisable sometimes  because you can not trust people completely.

There are several things that are very important in inheritance planning -
  • Choosing an honest and responsible heir.
  • Providing basic training in Bitcoin.
  • Ensuring safe storage and confidentiality.
  • Giving your heirs a hint about the location so that they can retrieve it after your death.
  • Adopting a strategy so that no one can access the seed phrase and private key while you are alive.

Achieving wealth is a very difficult task, so we must also pay attention to ensuring that the wealth is not buried with us. It is not only wise to strengthen or complicate security, but you also need to know the process of recovering it and take appropriate measures so that the heirs can retrieve it.

You've highlighted the key points which are necessary before you entrusted your bitcoin to anyone. Confidentiality is obligated in bitcoin investment or accumulation, especially if you want to protect your assets firmly from cheaters, scammers, and heaters. If you don't want to be victimise you must ensure confidentiality, because some people have diarrhoea mouth and can not keep a secret which is very wrong. Your assets need tight security. And you must also strengthen your ability of acknowledgement, and ensure your heir is well informed and well trained about how bitcoin operation is being carried out. Train him in a way that will guarantee you that even when you are gone, he will have the ability to maintain and manage everything efficiently and effectively.

This is a great approach, beig buried with untraceable wealth is crazy,  even your spirit won't rest in peace. It's good to have some in the family you can trust with your finance records,  also teach him how to manage your wealth when you leave,  if it's Bitcoin it's better you trust someone that's into crypto and is cool with you, one that won't betray your trust,  the society is full of surprises but regardless we must have someone who can manage our resources when we're no more. It's better someone else is using the money than to die without no one knowing how to get hold of your money.

These are all good points but unfortunately they are some people that are still going to die with their Bitcoin. Some people don't have heirs and while they are alive they are at odds with almost everyone including their family members. Some even think that there is no one worth sharing their wealth with so they keep it to themselves till death, this doesn't make any sense but it i hard to change the way some people already program their mind to think. Some people even say that no one deserves to get what they worked for because of how hard they worked for it

We worry too much about death and transferring our wealth to family and loved ones, but we don't even care about teaching these family members and loved ones about bitcoin and maybe investing for them so that they can own their own bitcoins and have custody of the seed phrases to wallets and as well also be investing themselves.
Your whey off course regarding the message of this topic.
One can own Bitcoin if he wants to, and it is a good thing to encourage individuals to be able to invest in Bitcoin, that's a case of its own. But relating it as a better option with what the op is talking about doesn't really make sense. These are completely 2 different things.

You lack reading comprehension because if you had read the whole of my post, you would have understood that i'm very much in line with the message that OP is trying pass across. I can see you actually made this post just to complete signature post quota but next time learn to read the whole of a text before you quote someone. Do yourself a favor and re-read my reply again.

Why not just handle things through a lawyer instead, let them handle it like your every other asset; that is, if it is a really significant amount of Bitcoin. Cause if you say you want to trust a family member with your keys, they probably might take from it even if it's a trusted family member.

Every field has a working system and these systems are often ridden with flaws.
I had a discussion with a bank staff that was involved in some illegal dealings that nearly ended him in jail and how a huge amount of money left behind by a deceased parent ended up with the wrong sibling for a cut. Of course the issue was later resolved due to the family tides but, the bank staff was to be victimized.

Now, in the cryptospace, one system that has being proposed to serve better remains the multisig approach to ensuring inheritance of Bitcoin holding and at a proper time and not later. There can also be time locks to this holding but, it’s got some down sides too.

One has to analyze the risk and decide on what path to take in ensuring inheritance of holdings. Going through lawyers and the will system, it could be a plus with multisig but having it exclusively could be some risk too.

Please I want to ask you this question, what if you don't have someone that you can entrust  your crypto asset with  becos it is not everybody you can trust? When you don't have people who you can trust is also a problem because you can't just give your crypto asset to someone you don't trust. In your above statement You said something that we can tell our wife or husband, what if you don't have a family member you can trust. the thing is, it is not everyone that has a family members or friends they can trust with their crypto asset, believe me it worry them alot because they don't have people who they can entrust with their crypto asset incase if something bad happen to them.

You dey on points bro nah one real time reality and big fact for Bitcoin be this…anytime we discuss am I just feel so cool on me because you are talking about death, died with your Bitcoin key just as you talk am that means say we dey do the community big favor and permanently them no fit ever get access to them again and the funny thing be side them go just they sit down for blockchain doing nothing…

Take for example I been hear say Satoshi get him own 1millionBTC Wey him never ever move since the year 2009… and one painful thing is that BTC no even have the buttons on to forgotten password to fit reset am so it very advisable if a person is passing down his BTC as the first traditional nah to teach am correctly and only a trusted person should you give such will to hold…show them what wallet and from time to time make them do small practice with little BTC so to be very much such of what they are doing is not wrong, the seed phase should not disclose to anyhow person…and long story that touches the heart just teach one person how it been done…

Why not just handle things through a lawyer instead, let them handle it like your every other asset; that is, if it is a really significant amount of Bitcoin. Cause if you say you want to trust a family member with your keys, they probably might take from it even if it's a trusted family member.

I was wondering what guarantee you have to think that a lawyer can not compromise their standards when it comes to sensitive matters as such. Entrusting Bitcoin keys to a lawyer is not safe to start with because they are human and can also act otherwise not to talk of when the asset keys entrusted to them are known to them alone. I have heard of cases in the past were lawyer's took over their client secret investment because they alone know about it till the secret got revealed and the family of the owner of the property came for it before they handed it over to them.

Of cause that is what you will say next lol. The talk about signature campaign is your way of explanation or argument
Unfortunately I'm not in any active signature campaign so your assumptions are wrong, I have nothing against you from what I read in your post your talking about teaching family and friends about Bitcoin, and I'm trying to let you know the op is talking about something different. But you didn't accept it and that is okay, But the next thing you do is talk of completing signature post lol, meanwhile I'm not in any active signature campaign. Meanwhile You on the other hand might be the in trying to complete signature post.
You just bring a while different talk to a normal discussion just to satisfy your vendetta against someone who has no bad intention and open for discussion and understanding

Why is a Bitcoin Inheritance Plan important?

Imagine you've been buying Bitcoin through DCA for the last 5 or 10 years. Your family doesn't know which wallet you use, where your seed phrase is stored, or how to recover it. And After your death, the Bitcoin will still exist on the blockchain, but no one will be able to access it. Actually, those coins become permanently lost.

What should a good Bitcoin Inheritance Plan include? I think this method will help you a little.

  • Teach at least one trusted family member the basics of Bitcoin, hardware wallets, and seed phrases.
  • Store your seed phrase securely in an offline location. Never save it online.
  • Do not keep your seed phrase and recovery instructions together. If someone finds both, your Bitcoin could be stolen.
  • Write a simple instruction letter explaining:
    • Which wallet you use
    • How to recover it
    • What information should never be shared with anyone
  • If you hold a significant amount of Bitcoin, consider learning about Multisignature wallets for additional security.

I don't why all these that op had mentioned looks easy to execute but in reality, it wouldn't be possible.
Bitcoin was never created to be inherited and the chances of this happening will be impossible. How do you want to tell your family that you have a Bitcoin and not showing them where the seed phrase can be located since you know you can die at any point in time.

The children of these days are only after enjoyment and how to live luxury lifestyle and invest; for someone that's wise.
It's like you have food in the house and you are telling your offsprings never to eat the food. Bitcoin is money and once anyone has the access to the seed phrase, they can easily move the money and no one will be aware about their action.

It is dangerous to share details of our wallet with an attorney. Bitcoin isn't a chequebook or physical asset where the signature of the heir must be available before access will be given to that property. Bitcoin is not land. Bitcoin isn't real estate. It isn't cars. Anyone with the passkeys can access the wallet before the main heir. The attorney can remove some fraction of the Bitcoin without anyone noticing.

In a death situation, I prefer to tell my heir where the private key is, but he wont be able to access it until he meets an attorney who will have the password to open the safe where the private key was stored. Certainly, the attorney won't know what the password is meant for.
