I don't know if you are late to this or something but I think the hype about the metaverse is gone; many projects were launched with some promising stupendous ROI and delivering nothing. As usual, a lot of people lost money while few like the founders smiled to the bank. In my opinion, that concept is a failed one as far as cryptocurrency is concerned, hence I will not advice anyone to make too much financial commitments in that sector. Maybe in the future we might see some new things that will rekindle the hype which is needed to sustain a business in the digital ecosystem.
Unfortunately there was a time during the hype when people thought that metaverse was going to be the NEXT BIG THING in the tech world but the reality as we see today is that there's a big gap between what was thought about metaverse world becoming and what/where it is today. I think, to an extent, only what I can reckon as success among others virtual ideas of metaverse is the gaming aspect.
Part of what also contributed to the failure of the idea was the crash of cryptocurrency at that time, since payment were made in crypto the crash affected profits, down sliding a lot of interests.
It would have been, not like it was impossible for it to not be the next big thing. The only reason why it did not become the next big thing, is because there was not enough demand for it. Think about it, if AI was used by absolutely nobody, would we see trillions going into it? Of course not, there would be no interest so there would be no customer so there is no need to work on it.
But there was demand, we all used it, some loved it, some hated it. Meta did not get that, there was no demand for it, so we saw nobody put money towards it. If you put 1+ trillion from all around the world from many different companies, it would have been one of the biggest things in the world and would look a lot better without a doubt.
