In the context of our country, I find the cost of our country's cellular data plan to be high. That's why I myself used to use  if there was a free WiFi system somewhere. But after learning about Bitcoin, I started to be aware of the security issues of wallets, even then I don't think there is such a risk that there will be a big loss for a small free service. Although now our phones do not have such a weak security system that hacking will happen just by connecting to public WiFi. Even then, we should take utmost precautions so that no unwanted risk is created.

Another thing is that it is not possible to know which others users are actually using the public network, and it is not even possible to know through which router it is being provided. Even if you are not directly a victim of hacking, the host can know about which website is being visited from which device. Now if someone visits a crypto related website, it can create problems. Because when the other person knows that you are related to crypto, he may also suspect that you may have a lot of Bitcoin holdings. Which can create additional risk for you.

What most people who are obsessed with freebie fail to understand is that, what looks like a bargain could potentially become an exchange rather than a free service. The real question everyone is meant to be asking is what are you giving in exchange? What information are you giving and how can that piece of information be used in the future. If you have understanding of this trade off and you still decide to go in then it’s better than doing so ignorantly, because this time at least you know what you’re walking into.

Free things is not just recommendeable and there are people who loves free things, they're ready to do everything within their reach to enjoy free things even though they have the power or in position to earn massively from something, they don't mind exercising patience. Understanding the risks is okay but going ahead to practice risks is not I wouldn't advise anybody to do because it's outrageous and knowing the end result. The most stable and imperative thing is knowing what's at cost here and trying one's possible best to make ourselves comfortable. On the records, I've also encountered people who are excessively obsessed and so engrossed with something that are not willing to let go.

Not being able to purchase data bundles doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be calculative and aware of certain risk that may pose a significant damage not only to your mental health but your financial health.Funnily enough,people are used to free things even when they have more than enough,then while they are still people who don’t chase after free things no matter the little they have.I was taught while growing up that not every free things comes for free some are attached with a price and the price may be positive or negative that’s why there’s a popular adage that say even in Freetown nothing is offered for free.It’s no excuse to connect a public WiFi to rollover your data bundle from your mobile bank when there’s a USSD code to purchase data from your bank account,so it be wise to be calculative and careful with your bank account.

You see this reason of rolling over data after expiration it occurs to very many people even though it does not justify any reckless WiFi connection because at the end, the damage can get worse than your losses if you had exhibited little more patience to get data. Personally when my data expires suddenly, I immediately buy a smaller bundle using USSD that will allow me access my apps to be able to renew the usual bundle I do because I find it difficult using the code.

But the thing is that, many people are used to using a free WiFi. Seeing a free WiFi reminds them of the apps they had wanted to update, the movies they had wanted to download, some apps they had wanted to install and several big files they had wanted to download. This is even the worst as they expose every detail to a third party behind the WiFi and when their information gets compromised, they start running to service centres and security agencies over some preventable mistakes.

Instead of condemning it completely, I will rather say those using it should be conscious enough on the process of using it because even if it is not disastrous at that point in time because it have not been tampered it may still be because technological advancement has made everything very possible.

This is an image of a wealthy man giving free internet access to young boys in the area. This image is trending online. This topic reminded me of the image and how this could also be a means to lure the young ones into getting tricked and hacking into their smartphones.

What if the intention is not to give free network to those who don't have. These young men in the image don't know the risk of connecting to the man's network. I wish they knew the risk they are taking.

There's far too much incorrect information to read everything in this topic, but I'll share my 2 sats anyway.
First: I've used public Wifi in many countries.

Almost all internet communication is encrypted nowadays. That makes a Man-in-the-middle attack much less likely to happen. If I connect to the website of my bank, my browser will warn me if someone replaced it with a phishing site. If they're just "spying", they can see I'm connecting to my bank, but they can't decrypt my data.
For crypto wallets, I've seen reports of clear text communication years ago, but it's not a bad idea to connect through Tor anyway.

Note that anyone at your local coffeeshop can create their own "free Wifi" access point. You never know who you're connecting to.
I'm paranoid for a lot of things when it comes to crypto, but "free Wifi" is not on that list. You shouldn't hold more than you need for payments on the road and which you can afford to lose in a hot wallet anyway.

Most of the users do not understand the drawbacks of using public WIFI they have no idea that attckers can easily create a fake WIFI hotspot with the exact same name of cafe or airport network .

 When you connect your device with them then your whole unencrypted traffic transfer to them so its not enough to find real network because it is not reliable the reason is that fake network looks like a real network which trap the users so it is necessary to avoid public wifi while accessing crypto wallet or any sensitive account.

One thing that makes public WiFi very dangerous is that, the risk isn’t really very obvious, and you can be hacked or tapped without even realizing it, not until after the harm has been done. You can be connected to the WiFi and everything would just feel normal like you usually do, while someone is just there trying to intercept or manipulate the connection without anyone knowing. This is why I feel that using a private WiFi or mobile data is just a little extra cost when conducting activities that concerns bank or crypto transactions. It’s better to spend more and still having your peace of mind, than saving little data just to realize you’ve compromised your security.

Free wifi has always been a plague, which is why i always try to avoid it, sometimes the main problem could be that someone gets in the way and simulates the network and when someone connects it does MITM and this can be really unpleasant, especially if precautions are not taken, an alternative could be to use a VPN.

It is true and I understand that it is not possible to hack a phone just by connecting public wifi. The matter is not that simple. But even if there is a 0.01% chance, a person who has a large amount of Bitcoin holding on his phone will never want to take such a risk, where there is at least some possibility of phone hacking.

If you have a large amount of Bitcoin in your phone wallet, then you know that connecting to wifi will not cause phone hacking. Even then, you yourself will never want to do such a careless thing. Because behind this, you have a large amount of wealth involved.If you have your own cellular data or a trusted home wifi  network available, then I do not see any need to connect a phone with a large holding to an unknown public network. Connecting to public wifi may provide a small benefit for a short time, but if there is anything unusual happen , then the loss can be very large. So there is no need to take risks.
