Besides there should be a balance I think. The number of countries from Europe should be increased at first.

That report isn’t accurate and most likely a click bait. The US isn’t one of the countries hosting the 2030 World Cup, they just hosted the 2026 World cup so it won’t be until 2038 before they will be able to host another World Cup. The US weren’t very good hosts imo, I believe football fans around the world are not looking forward to seeing US host the tournament in the future.

using sensors seem like a smart technology that can be adequately utilized for the referee system in the football but those sensors have to have the ability to work independently and not controlled by individuals in the control room. Those in the control room can still be biased and find away to manipulate their way out unless there is a real time flagging of programmed foul by the sensors in that nobody has to control it before it gives results else human interference will lead to unjust decisions sometimes even when it does not happen as frequently as it used to be in the past.

The issue is not about advancing technology to make the game of football error-free. The problem is with the interpretation of the data these tools give. Even with the VAR technology, there are still errors because these officials can give judgment based on their perspectives.

People might call me old-fashioned, but I miss the old days of football. Football is becoming similar to video games. Yes, there were errors, but it was fun. Having this amount of technology and still having several errors makes the game frustrating.

From my little knowledge, I understand that the goal of using technology in football is to prevent wrong decisions from being made during the game, to make the right judgment or decision on the opposing team by making any decision, to make the right decision without any but between the players or the general people and to manage the game with discipline. However, despite the technology, sometimes when watching the game, it see that the decision was not taken correctly. This is never the fault of the technology, it is definitely the fault of those who are managing the game. It is absolutely true that before there was no such technology, there would be mistakes in the game but there would be a lot of entertainment, but nowadays there is no shortage of technology, but sometimes wrong decisions are taken which is really painful.

I don't think we need 64 teams for the next World Cup. Even the current format has been criticized by people quite much.

Watching more games than before sounded nice at first but it changed my mind after seeing increase in the number of boring games.  Grin

Besides there should be a balance I think. The number of countries from Europe should be increased at first.
As the World Cup game was expanded, it was kind of interesting. If you check most of the small teams, their performance was tough, like Cape Verde, who played against Argentina. They were very tough, and the game was interesting. I think if the number of teams for the World Cup is expanded, teams will improve because of the competition, and it will be interesting. One thing about the World Cup game is that it is not always interesting at the beginning, but as the competition proceeds, so many events take place that are very memorable. In this concluded World Cup, at the beginning, I remember some people were complaining about the game being boring.

Ceferin uefa president already called it a bad idea. The jump from 32 to 48 already stretch the group stages Matches. If 64 team play it's means 128 match can be played with 64 team. which is boring I think we don't need that's much team in this competition more Matches doesn't means more good matches but it will be just more matches period. I don't like this idea if you want to be fair with this competition you don't need that's much team.

Infantino 64 team idea is simple. They want more games, more broadcasting to generate more revenue for members of Federation but they are destroying this competition with this act. We actually lose quality matches if FIFA worldcup is famous for quality matches. So I don't like the idea of 64 Team.

Although there are both good and bad sides, I think the bad side is a little more. Because whenever there is a talk or will be an increase in the number of teams, everyone may feel that the status of the World Cup is decreasing. Because whenever something becomes too easy for everyone, its value or status decreases a lot for everyone. The same thing may happen in the case of the World Cup. There may be a lot of talk about the match, like as we saw during this World Cup, there was a lot of talk about Argentina and everyone was heard saying that Argentina was deliberately put against a weak team. When a weak team, a big team like France is playing, many people will not want to watch the match because everyone will think that France will win this match.

Yes, it will be fascinating, but as far as I'm concerned, if a large number of sports fans write a petition and share their thoughts, and someone who can ask the FIFA president for review, and they will make an amendment in a matter of hours, just like we see in the World Cup game Grin Support the petition.
Because the FIFA board appears to be full of dishonest individuals in disguise, despite their claims that they are unaffected by political figures.
I think that FIFA at its highest levels is getting away with it and that Infantino is imposing a dictatorship of cheating and many acts of corruption, something that seems totally unpleasant to me, it's something I don't agree with. Besides, he has a lot of support from high-ranking governments, so it's difficult to remove him from there, but it's not impossible. I hope that someone remains who really cares about football and not the things that shouldn't be done.

I don’t see anything bad about 64 teams playing the World Cup because many countries need to play, the World Cup that just ended did not look boring to me and it the same pattern as the former one where a team will play a seven game and win the trophy, the reason why FIFA is trying to increase the number of the teams that are going to play the World Cup is because of the way people are criticising the game that it is easy to get to the final, if the World Cup have many countries FIFA will generate more than what they are generating from the tournament now.

Still recovering from the just ended Wordcup that saw fans being turned back, referees being sent back home for a political post on some political leaders socials Roll Eyes phew at least I know the next one will be filled with real fans, less immigration issues and the alike & no funny water breaks **hopefully depending on season**

Anyway of all the teams I think Norway will stand out as its a youthful team, so will the defending Champions Spain 🇪🇸, will they defend it I don't think so !

Honestly even with 48 teams in this World Cup, I was already exhausted and burned out by football by the time we reached the quarterfinals. I consider myself a massive football fan and I’m usually the type who loves to watch as many games as possible. But the volume of matches in this format was overwhelming. If they actually go through with expanding it to 64 teams, there is simply no way I can keep up with it, it's just too much.

At the end of the day pushing for 64 teams feels similar to hydration breaks for added commercial stoppages, it isn't being done to improve the sport or enhance the tournament experience for supporters. It’s purely driven by money and maximizing commercial revenue, completely ignoring fan fatigue and the boredom that comes with a bloated schedule full of low stakes group games.

It's not possible for a nation who hosted the world cup or its continent hosted the world to bid on hosting the next one. The nation must wait after 2 world cup editions. Which is why Asia were unable to bid for the 2030 world, that's how the United States will also wait till 2038 edition. This rotation creates a perfect balance for the world cup  hosting to be shared amongst all continent. Africa countries should have hosted one by now since 2010 , but I guess it might be due to finances, and infrastructures. Even in this 2030 world, they added Argentina and Uruguay as one the host too, because FIFA will be celebrating their 100th year anniversary, and it Uruguay and Argentina that played in the Final.

you are right, 64 teams might be too extra. Fifa would need time to think upon adding new teams as they just added more in the previous one and its not a necessity that every worldcup teams will increase. This worldcup  was really interesting but a bit crowded with matches too though i liked it so i dont see any reason to why people want 64 teams, it is as entertaining as it could get with this format no need to change for now. They can think to caunge after a few worldcups but right now it is working

I don't think it will happen soon for the number of teams in the FIFA world cup competition to increase to 64, I don't think majority of the strong teams will not support such development because they know it will be taking a long time before they will reach final and it will make some teams not to have such energy that will keep them to reach final match, I know FIFA world cup managements have to think well before they take decision towards next FIFA world cup that is coming up 2030 because I don't think is the number of teams that will make the FIFA world cup competition more interesting.

The US isn’t one of the countries hosting the 2030 World Cup, they just hosted the 2026 World cup so it won’t be until 2038 before they will be able to host another World Cup. The US weren’t very good hosts imo, I believe football fans around the world are not looking forward to seeing the US host the tournament in the future.

I know the World Cup wasn't all that perfect, but still this particular World Cup, if not mistaken, has been one of the few with full-packed spectators in almost all the stadiums and in all the games and I take that to be satisfying for the fans but who am I to know? I mean I wasn't present there.

There will always be issues in hosting such a big competition like the World Cup, the fact that the US managed to cover all other areas in terms of security speaks highly of their ability to host the world, although the sells of tickets was one major issue again that they failed because the price of tickets were so expensive which got me surprised how all the games still sold out full in the stadiums.

Too much, too soon?!

We need to go through qualifications first, and who knows... things (some rules) can change in 4 years. So I think it's too early for any discussion about the next World Cup...

It depends whom you ask, but this is actually nothing new when comes to discussion of the World cup here on the forum. Actually, if you take a look at the date in which the 2026 world cup thread was started here on the forum, then you should realize the discussion of it started pretty much after the conclusion of the 2022 world cup.

In general, world cups are discussed with much anticipation here on the forum. I personally have no issue with it, as it contains the diacussion about the event in a single place from the very beginning, keeping the gambling discussion section organized.

I don’t see anything bad about 64 teams playing the World Cup because many countries need to play, the World Cup that just ended did not look boring to me and it the same pattern as the former one where a team will play a seven game and win the trophy, the reason why FIFA is trying to increase the number of the teams that are going to play the World Cup is because of the way people are criticising the game that it is easy to get to the final, if the World Cup have many countries FIFA will generate more than what they are generating from the tournament now.
what’s the point of calling a game a World Cup when the number of teams participating will be reduced to small numbers, 64 teams playing is okay and it in fact gives smaller football nations getting onto the biggest football platform can actually produce unexpected results and new rivalries. Let’s also not forget that money cannot be separated from this our discussion because more teams mean more matches and money at the same time. The promos will increase, there will be more tickets to be sold and many more commercial opportunities for FIFA.

Did anyone put a gun over your head and force you to watch all the World Cup matches? Grin
I've watched only 3 quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final. The group stage matches were just too boring and most of the matches were broadcasted at night. I prefer sleeping instead of watching games between rather mediocre national football teams.
FIFA is slowly turning into a greedy corporation. Infantino is even worse than Blatter. We might be witnessing a World Cup with more than sixty four teams after a decade or two. AFAIK, Saudi Arabia is going to host one of the upcoming World Cup tournaments. Hydration breaks are here to stay and maybe the ticket prices are going to hit new record levels. Football has been turned into corporate entertainment, which sucks, but there's nothing we can do about it.

I can agree with everything, even when we had a smaller number of participants in the World Cup, 32, there were also boring and bad matches and now, with 48 and later with 64 participants, there will be even more.
Europe definitely has the most quality national teams, in the quarterfinals of this World Cup there were 6 European national teams and since 2002 at all World Cups except the last one in Qatar 2022, the world champions have been from Europe.
However, none of this will happen.
Infantino, the president of FIFA, increased the number of participants in the World Cup for 2 main reasons (none of which have anything to do with football) and these are to increase profits and to gain support from small countries for a lifetime mandate at the head of FIFA.

Discussion Thread For FIFA world Cup 2030 (Centennial), Open for everyone.

I think this topic is a bit too early to be discussed because we still have four years to the preparation of the 2030 FIFA world club as we just rounded up the just concluded one about a week ago but nevertheless it's a good one, the last world cup accommodated more teams about 64 teams and I think it's because it's a century game that's why the FIFA president made more rooms for many teams to participate and I think that was a very good one, concerning the hosting rights I feel it will be Morocco, Portugal and Spain that will be hosting it come 2030 and then the opening ceremonies will be hosted by the other three countries which are Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.

Have been hearing people say that the increased in the number of teams from 48 countries to 64 countries in the recent world cup is as a result of profit making and the FIFA president wants to make more profits though I don't believe that because I know he wanted to make rooms for other countries to feel what the world cup looks like and has the experience of it.
