Thanks blue Snow for creating this thread. I wanted to discuss about the possible 64-team format, and the thread for the 2026 edition perhaps was not the right place. So what you guys think? The 48-team format for the 2026 edition was highly successful. FIFA wants to expand the 2030 edition to 64-team format, since it will be the centenary edition. I am not sure whether they will retain that format for 2034. BTW, there is no confirmation yet from Gianni Infantino or any of the other top FIFA officials. Only Alejandro Dominguez of CONMEBOL has confirmed this.

As I understand it, Infantino's position has been seriously undermined after his disgrace at the last World Cup, and in order to secure the support of more football federations, he is planning to give them a kind of "bribe" - to expand the number of teams in the finals to 64. In my opinion, this is a small difference from the current format, since there will simply be a little more garbage games in the group stage and the round of 32 will also be a little more garbage. This is even an article from December 2024 so it was already decided back then. While the places are already determined I don't think it is possible for USA to be the host again next time.

I only hope that we don't see the rumored 64-team format. Even the current 48-team format has some points that can be criticized. Like the number of European teams isn't enough to me as it is only 16.

This was the reply I was looking for, because it is too early to start a thread about the world cup that would be played in 2030, I think the discussion around this just concluded world cup hasn't yet ended especially with news coming out that there could have probably been match fixing and manipulation.
Investigations are underway to determine if gambling companies or other body has manipulated and fixed matches, also the world cup is so far that what ever you discuss now may not have meaning when 2030 comes around.

In as much as i know that this World Cup ended few days back and that a lot of memories from the just concluded World Cup is still fresh shouldn’t completely stop people from giving suggestions regarding the next 2030 World Cup, we can’t completely dwell on the past, wether or not there was match fixing or any form of irregularities in the just concluded World Cup can’t change the fact that Spain has already won, no one can turn the hands of time, as humans people must keep on going forward not backward no matter the circumstance, early suggestions and preparations will also help in reducing some irregularities in the next World Cup so that issues that occurred in this last World Cup won’t repeat itself again, so to me giving suggestions about the next World Cup isn’t a bad idea after all it won’t still stop people from still talking about the previous one.

Personally speaking I don't like the way that FIFA is gradually turning football into, just imagining six different countries hosting one event. What do they mean by Uruguay, Paraguah and Argentina will be hosting one centenary games to mark the hundred years of the world cup. It doesn't make sense to me if you ask me, FIFA under this present leadership is bringing some things that are not necessary into football . We should not forget that Many people are not even too happy with this just concluded world cup where some rules that FIFA set by themselves were broken all by themselves just to please some people.

This looks like the first of its kind, that we are having three continents going to host the World Cup: Africa, South America, and Europe. I think the South American side that got involved is to celebrate Uruguay 1930, the 100-year celebration. Whereas Portugal and Spain share borders, and Morocco and Spain are just a few hours flight across the sea, quite understandable. From 34 games now to playing 64 games. It will be nice that some good changes be introduced to spice up the competition more.

I see the results of the expansion in the recently concluded World Cup positively. The more expansion, the more new teams will appear in the world cup and new players will also appear. From the recently concluded World Cup, we got teams like Cabo Verde, Norway, DR Congo and Ivory Coast. I don't think the teams have had much impact on the quality of the FIFA World Cup.

I would have said thesame thing but then a second thought came crawling around my head. Even the qualifications you mentioned would be needing a thread for discussion and the world cup 2030 thread seems to be the best place for those kind of discussion instead of creating a separate topic to discuss different even over and over again, it'sbest to just stick with one thread. Again there might be changes to the rules by FIFA and this is still the right place for discussion, 4 years might seem like a long time but it isn't, 2022 still feels like yesterday, so why not take a chill pill and relax.

The 2030 World Cup will be hosted by Morocco, Portugal and Spain. The reason for the three other countries, Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay is because 2030 coincides with the 100th anniversary of FIFA founding, and 100 years ago in 1930, Uruguay a Latin American country, hosted the first World Cup. This is likely why these three countries are hosting the opening matches. So, it could be said that these six teams have automatically qualified for the 2030 World Cup. I initially found FIFA's decision strange, but after considering the 100th anniversary, it seems to make more sense.

On the one hand I'm happy because this will increase the opportunity for my country Indonesia to participate in the World Cup. I don't think that's possible even though, we know that Infantino is Trump puppet because the USA just hosted this past one even though, it was hosted in three countries but the major games were played in the US.

I will not be surprised if Trump said this because he has seen how much money came into the US during the world cup. I believe it's a different country that will be hosting the next world cup in 2030.

I doubt it has seriously been undermined. The problem is that Infantino uses FIFA money to provide finances for all the football associations around the world. As a consequence, over 200 associations already announced their support for one more Infantino tenure. He is safe. He doesn't have to fear that out of a sudden the majority of those voters remain silent because at the end of the day he is the guy who decides how much money everyone gets. Obviously the poorer countries would almost always vote for him if the FIFA under his leadership provides significant financial support for them.

  Ahahaha, good question! Imagine if the next World Cup had 64 teams but Italy couldn't qualify again. Although the fact that Italy has now missed the World Cup for 12 years in a row feels untrue.
Otherwise, judging by the timing of the previous World Cup (qualifying games for which began in September 2023), we still have a year before the actual start of the tournament. Apparently, this year the number of teams and the format of the tournament should be determined.
