I don't think we need 64 teams for the next World Cup. Even the current format has been criticized by people quite much.

Watching more games than before sounded nice at first but it changed my mind after seeing increase in the number of boring games. 

Besides there should be a balance I think. The number of countries from Europe should be increased at first.

There is nothing to worry about, the 64-team World Cup has not yet been approved. The South American football authorities have only made a proposal. In my opinion, if the World Cup has 64 teams, the quality of the game will decrease, and many people will probably not watch the qualifying matches. Especially if the purpose of increasing the number of teams is not only to generate revenue from broadcasting, tickets and advertising, then the uniqueness of the World Cup may gradually decrease. In my opinion, if FIFA continues a few World Cups with 48 teams, they will be able to better understand the interest of the audience, the quality of the matches, the fatigue of the players and the qualifying round. Then they will be able to reach a better decision. Moreover, if it is necessary to reduce the number of teams after increasing the number of teams, there may be political pressure.

Thanks blue Snow for creating this thread. I wanted to discuss about the possible 64-team format, and the thread for the 2026 edition perhaps was not the right place. So what you guys think? The 48-team format for the 2026 edition was highly successful. FIFA wants to expand the 2030 edition to 64-team format, since it will be the centenary edition. I am not sure whether they will retain that format for 2034. BTW, there is no confirmation yet from Gianni Infantino or any of the other top FIFA officials. Only Alejandro Dominguez of CONMEBOL has confirmed this.

It could be a mess in my life if this happens. I've managed to watch only the third of  2026 World Cup matches live because of the time difference with the country I live in. With  64-team format, I would be able to miss any sleep, so I'd have no choice but to watch only matches starting from the round of 16. The 32-team format is the best one.

Yeah, it was funny to watch how Trump was holding onto the Cup as if it were his own, as if he were doing Spain a favor by handing it over. He had to play politics at every event to boost his ratings with the November elections coming up. Luckily, football will shake him off in 2028, so the 2030 World Cup will be safe in that regard.

FIFA world cup 2030 is most likely to be hosted by three major countries as you have mentioned already with Morocco, Spain and Portugal, and the remaining three countries are to host for the opening ceremonies, which are Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay all respectively, definitely there will be some major changes and adjustments to be made when it comes to countries that will be participating and the likes and we are just waiting more for update from FIFA to bring in these into effect on what they are concluding on.

I don't want to go into a deep analysis of how the USA was organized. However, due to their visa restrictions, spectators who wanted to go to watch the game from different countries but couldn't go had to face problems. And some problems with various teams and their colleagues. And they deliberately charged high ticket prices. While both FIFA and USA may have made a profit. However, there was no strong issue that this time the World Cup was ruined. 2026 World cup is the demanding not to talk of the money draining to individuals, with what I'm seeing here as the hosts, 2030 will be worse because it's going to be capital intensive. 3 different continents across 6 or more countries, how will the fans cope with such expenses. In previous World cups fans didn't complain the way they did in this concluded world cup in terms of money, everything was on the for tickets especially the finals which cost almost $14,000. The cost of tickets and US immigration problems made willing fans not to attend and this same scenario might also play out in the next world cup which will make fans to sit out again.
Let's assume the first set is played in South America, fans will travel to that continent, scattered across the countries that are to play the matches and when it's back to Europe, they will all travel back to Europe repeat the same process over again when it's being played on African soil. The fans will have to beat the cost all because they want to watch the sports they love.

To be sincerely speaking, the 2026 FIFA world cup has exposed the poor hospitality that was shown to fans by USA, the facts isz a bigger tournament like FIFA world cup should make the fans from different continent to unit and feels welcomed comfortably. And also connect to the culture of country that host the tournament at that moment. Though from merely looking at the stadium, they really tried in that aspect, I would actually love the Morocco to host the next  FIFA world cup tournament, they really have a records on international tournament which I believe they will give great hospitality to all.

Do you think so? Many of the top players played their best, especially the strikers. Haaland, Mbappe, Messi, Kane, I don't think any of these lost form because of fatigue. But I agree that it is weird there is no standard as to what a league should look like in Europe. Having 20-team domestic league is too much, no break around Christmas and NYE in England is crazy.

One thing that annoyed me the most was this bullshit during halftime in the World Cup final. Enough is enough, and then Infantino takes it one step further. When players have to wait almost 25 minutes to play again, it's like cooling down completely and I guess they have already been warming up in the locker rooms again, which is ridiculous.

According to AI, there will be some opening matches which will be played in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, to celebrate the one hundred years of the World Cup. After those opening matches are played then the rest of the tournament will take place in Morocco, Portugal and Spain.

Needless to say, it seems the FIFA does not longer believe in the former format of a single country hosting the World Cup, they seem to have a plan in the long term to make these events a global happening, instead of just allowing a single country to take it all. I have not gotten accustomed to it.

The Iranian team was not allowed to stay in the US for more than 24 hours and needed to travel back to Mexico, which is completely unacceptable as they could have changed the venue if they wanted to play hardball.

Despite all these obstacles, they performed really well. FIFA really needs to take a position on these types of situations even before the tournament starts, and hopefully, this sort of situation will not repeat in future events.

I understand what you are saying. many fans have really expressed their displeasure due to the hospitality they received but I believe that many people were denied due to security issues amongst other things but some may look like personal attacks but regardless it's important to have a successful tournament because everyone needs that.

I've just come across an article on ESPN which is talking about FIFA to "sell" World Cup to private investors. He has a proposal to raise up to $20 billion through private investment according to this.

However the private investors will also be a part of the planning of the organization which might bring about unwanted results...

This is where the associations will also benefit according to the plan. UEFA is strictly opposing this and says that 55 member associations in Europe will hold an emergency meeting. Those countries are expected to be against this plan of FIFA.

Spain, Portugal and Morocco are the original hosts nations that joint bidded and won the hosting rights to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

In my opinion the 22 worldcup was the best, hospitality, friendships, happiness, good vibes everything was perfect. Even the final was the most perfect final that could ever have had happened. I dont think any tournament can reach that stage ever again. Our experience the last time increased the expectations but USA 2026 failed to deliver as 2022 WC was far better. It isnt that this was bad but the worldcup it is compared it is just too good.
