My cousin who have been a gambler in the past and quit said that if gambling is truly provably fair many casinos won't make it because there is always a load of people testing that one game and they will win even more which will result in loss for the casino, do you believe what he said about this?
the problem I have with provably fair is we can't ever know how true it is, even a casino that can't be trusted will use the same language that they are transparent to enhance players confidence in them, there is no probably fair verification, the cryptographic algorithm and others aren't enough.
What about you? What do you think about provably fair language from casinos?
We can't say for sure whether casino sites are provably fair because we know their internals. But like your friend, I think the internals of casino sites are not provably fair. If they were, the amount of people who gambled would often show that many casino sites would suffer a lot of losses. However, we know that people don't just bet on one side, they bet on different sides, so the casino sites can take money from the people who lose and pay the people who win. But I'm never 100% sure that casino sites are provably fair.

To be frank what I know about casino is that this language has been so common to them where they often tell people about how transparent they are, of course they are transparent whereby if you win they would allow you to make withdrawal without any hesitation. But what you must know about their games is that they set winning to 10/90 or 1/9 where it will be that hard and difficult for you to win from their gambling site. So, what you should do is that when gambling you shouldn’t put all your trust of winning a casino rather you should focus on the fun aspect of it to enable you to enjoy your game otherwise if you keep looking at that it won’t allow you to play game anymore.

I don't have enough coding skill; only developers would make sure if it's truly probably fair. But I don't think gambling sites will allow someone else to read their codes. On the other hand, even if they allow it later, they could edit the codes from the backend. So it's not very beneficial to audit their gambling sites' codes; it's not blockchain codes that won't be edited or changed.
I don't believe that is probably fair because if the casino keeps losing, then they can't run their business. Somehow casinos have to be winners on average, although some gamblers win sometimes. But what I realized is most gamblers have been losing on the gambling platform, and the casino is earning a lot.
I don't think that a well-managed casino that offers provably fair games will go bankrupt. They could still make a profit if they offer unrigged games. The problem is that some of them want to make excess profits, making them engage in shady practices. There are many provably fair verifiers or checkers/calculators online. I have not used any of them to check if they are accurate. But some gamblers use them. Some of them are: SpindexThunderpickBtcgosuI will make time to check some of these Provably fair tools. But for now, I mainly use casinos from the forum. So the scam accusation and service thread of these platforms are my main source of determining if their games are provably fair.

I don't even begin to know how provably fair works, partially because I've never delved into it that deeply and partially because I probably wouldn't even be able to validate the calculations going on if they are too advanced. However the point is that people who are intelligent enough to make sense of it all, can independently vet and audit the whole process to determine that a casino is not shifting the odds after you decide to play a game. It doesn't have to be that complicated, but there was recently a post here where somebody actually proved that a certain casino was not provably fair even though they claimed to be. You cannot argue with the maths that goes into this process as long as you understand it all.

I don't really understand what you meant by " bet on different sides" sure casinos do used money lost to pay off wins but they can also borrow when they are stranded

Casino sites may claim to be provably fair, but in reality, there is doubt among gamblers about how fair they are. All casino sites will claim to be so, but not all of them follow the same rules. If they were fair, many such sites would have gone bankrupt. In reality some sites may go bankrupt for other reasons, but there is no significant reason to show that gamblers got a lot from that site. The internal system of a casino is never observed by the average gambler. I have seen many gamblers who have been trying for years but they are not getting that fairness from the casino in any way. The games in casinos are designed in such a way that in the long run the gambler will lose.

I don't really know how fair gambling sites are, but it is 100% true that the main purpose of creating a casino is to make money. If the owner repeatedly faces losses by operating a casino, then the owner of the casino will never operate it again. However, gamblers place many bets at once and casinos take advantage of this opportunity because when gamblers place multiple bets, it is not possible to make proper research or make the right decisions, the amount of losses increases and the casino profits from this.

If everything was truly 100% fair, I don’t think casinos would be as profitable as they are. But from the look of things, that is not really how it works, provably fair just means you can verify the outcome, not that you have an edge or any form of advantage. The thing is, even if the game is fair, the odds are still designed to favor the Casino. So it is not about winning more, it is about being able to check that the result was not in any way or form tampered with. But I still agree that any casino can claim to be provably fair. Without a way to independently verify everything, it is still based on trust and trust is kind of hard to give in this space.

provably fair is a cryptographic verification system so of course it is reliable here you will have a record of every bet and you can verify it through hash scan. It creates a secret hash seed of every bet through SHA 256, SHA 512 technology which does not match any other. And here you can verify how reliable your loss or winning result is. Is it a fake result or not. Many casino platforms use provably fair hash algorithm system. However, despite being very serious about it, we do not normally verify these. When I gamble on a casino platform, I see if they have provably fair but never go to verify any result. But yes provably fair is definitely real

For me, that term provably fair is just a marketing stunt and nothing more. It's just a way of making gamblers believe it that gambling is fair or the so called provably fair is actually fair. No provably way for the players themselves to actually test that claim.
It's going to be actually very hard for casinos to be transparent. They might throw adverts or words here and there to tell they are transparent. But the main details will surely be hidden from gamblers. Being transparent by casinos will destroy the hat built in house edge they have over gamblers. So they won't be transparent for any reason of whatsoever. So I understand why some certain things are in place. Generally, nobody can handle the truth.

I don't trust any games played by the system and expect a win, I don't even trust playing games that depends on luck for me to be able to cash out, I don't care about the buzzword they call it, be it provably fair or house edge kind of stuff, whatever, I don't care.
That's why my favorite games I predict on are sportsbook, played by humans, real being. I can predict and if I fail, I know I wasn't lucky enough but will hardly fail if my analysis strong enough.

Provably fair is a good idea in paper but it doesn’t mean that a person is suppose to trust all casinos automatically. What he did was that he allowed player verify that result of the game didn’t change after they must have finished betting, through cryptographic system. If casino implemented it correctly it can increase transparency. But your cousin said that if it was truly fair, casinos won’t make profit because people will always test it. I don’t fully agree. Even if a game is fair, because casino still has house edge.
Which means that players can win today, tomorrow or even in one long streak, but in the long run the house edge still works for casino. The only place I agree with you is that it’s not every casino who write provably fair is supposed to take a blind trust. Scam casinos can still use same language to attract players. Provably fair is a useful feature but it’s not a guarantee of honesty. It’s good for people to choose casino who has a good reputation.

This is something that gamblers are yet to understand till date and if they are provably fair as they claimed to be casino business won't be as lucrative the way it seems to be right away and people wouldn't have been venturing into having their own personal casinos. Another thing I am looking at here is that, you as a gambler you must know what you take gambling as because most people usually takes gambling as an entertainment purposes while some people usually do see it as a milking zone, it is these people who usually find fault in the gambling site how they are not transparent enough and how they are not also probably fair as they may claims to be.

There are original games which you can test the fairness with any provable fairness tool available, and casino can't rig the results that is why it is called provable fairness and there are games provided by third party such as pragmatic play which you can't test but the regulators audit them regularly for the fairness of the game and they are the one responsible for all the results and casino only manages the payouts for those bets. So you can trust the casinos or you can test them by yourself but casinos rig the games is just a myth with no evidence to back the claim other than the words coming from someone who lost more money on casinos.

Yes, it is real and in fact, we do not use it all the time. It is useful when you have confusion about a winning or a loss. Provably fair is a way where every win and loss of your bet will be stored in the blockchain. Do you deny cryptography? Do you not think it is real? If you believe in blockchain, if you believe in cryptography, then you have to believe in provably Fair. Because it is a strong system where every bet of yours is recorded. And it makes gambling results more credible and transparent.

Even though we all know that the odds for the casino to win are usually higher, but saying that we have 1:9 odds is too extreme. We know that generally, when you make a bet in a casino game, you have about a 50% probability of winning that bet and so does the casino, but it could be lower than that for us, but it is not true that in a bet, we have 10% chances of winning and the casino has 90%, because if that was the case, no person would ever manage to win anything from gambling, which is not the case, because we often see people winning money from gambling, but it's just that the odds for that happening are very low, which is why it only happens to a few people. The reason why we often say that you can't beat the casino is because there is also an house edge, that takes a small percentage from every win you get, and when you lose, you already lose the whole money, which means that in the long run, the casino is still going to win even if you keep winning unless you manage to win a very large amount. Other than that, we know that 50% chances of winning doesn't mean you can constantly win, this is the reason why there is always a possibility of a very long losing streak because after each bet, you still have the same 50% winning probability, which means you can still lose the next bet even if you have lost 20 bets already.

I don't know what this is about and what your cousin told you, sounds weird to me because there is probably no casino out there that has a "not provably fair" game that works to the benefit of their customers. I am also not sure whether you understand what provably fair actually means: it means that the advertised RTP value can be verified through large number experiments, which means the RTP value should be approximated by the outcomes of a large number of rounds experiment. And of course technically whether the RNG is exactly working as intended.

I saw a response that resonates very well with what I had in mind when I was reading through this thread. It said that provably fair is simply how casinos show you that your bet result is correct and not forged, but it doesn't mean that it makes the algorithm a fair one for the gambler. There are some that claim to be provably fair, but they don't have anything set up for their users actually to verify their bets. So not all casinos that say they are provably fair are actually fair.

provably fair is a cryptographic verification system so of course it is reliable here you will have a record of every bet and you can verify it through hash scan.
Well said with a little details. From my perspective, I have never personally verified the Probably Fair issue. I didn't even know how to verify it until now. I also thought that the fairest thing to say here is that those games or casinos cannot or do not tamper with their own games. And in this case I always choose highly reputable casinos and I have never checked the fairness of these casinos. I only gamble based on their reputation.

I don't think that a well-managed casino that offers provably fair games will go bankrupt. They could still make a profit if they offer unrigged games.
Provably fair games do not remove the house edge, which is the main income of a casino. Provably fair games simply tells us that we can verify that the result is not altered. Other than that, it does not affect the operation of the casino, including the algorithm on how the game is made, how they integrate RNG for the result, and so on. The problem is that some of them want to make excess profits, making them engage in shady practices. Casino engaging in shady practices to defraud their customers can modify the algorithm or setup of the game and still make the game provably fair. After all the tool is just to test whether the server result is modified or not after it was committed to the server seed.
