Should workers always look forward to being complimented or encouraged by their employers?

I listened to some people have a conversation and were complaining about the attitude of their employer being too strict and not complimenting them whenever they do a task or complete a job. This had me thinking about the importance of such compliments and encouragements even asides the salary that the employer pays them for the job. Do you see this as also important because some people will prefer as bosses to be feared than to be loved. For you, what do you prefer? will you like to be loved as a boss or feared? , and do you see see compliments as important from an employer.
Strict employers may sometimes offer compliments, but I doubt this will have any impact on workers' performance. A stricter approach will actually make them fear their boss and perform better, while a friendly atmosphere in the team will relax them. This doesn't mean workers will do worse work, it just means they'll be less efficient. And I'm almost certain that where the boss is strict, turnover will be much higher.

It really depends on one's personality, for some it's important, for some it's not. But one thing is for sure, every employee wants a bonus or reward if they do a job well and a raise if they perform well in a year. But giving simple compliments isn't hard, so just do it, at least they will feel you appreciate their efforts and not resent you. Your relationship will become more harmonious and not heavy.

If I were a boss, I don't want to be completely feared but at least enough for them to do their job right and not slack during work hours. Coz some employees, if you are too kind, they will take advantage of it. Not too kind, not too scary but leaning more on kind.

If you were an employer or employee (please answer from both positions) would you like to get a small bonus to monthly salary or extra day off as a reward for a well done job, or if boss told you “well done Shinpako09. Our company express a large thank you for your job”. Giving a compliment cost nothing, but for me it does not make a big effect on an employee.

Praise from a supervisor for excellent performance certainly boosts spirit and motivation in one's work, which is crucial. However, a supervisor also needs to be firm regarding work matters—a trait essential for instilling discipline in subordinates and driving the company's progress. Yet, not all employees appreciate such firmness, presenting a challenge that the supervisor must navigate.

That’s what no employer would condone, not working during work hours.Humans are built differently, some people are naturally strict while others aren’t strict, most employers are lenient even to the point where you take advantage of their kindness they won’t be able to show their angry side,I’ve worked with different employers and during my work with them I take out time to study their behavior because that’s the most important thing to do in other for me to keep a memory during my time with them.Don’t be too kind and don’t be too strict with your workers, discipline them whenever they fail to do their job well, beside discipline doesn’t mean you should be abusive, always choose your words rightfully when disciplining them remember they’re your employees and not your children.

Agree, I think compliment and reward will become less expected if the fundamental points that are of concern to employees are met by the company, that is a tangible form of appreciation from the company or employer toward the employee. For me compliments and rewards are complement not a substitute for a safe and healthy work environment, fairplay and good corporate governance. Simply said compliment and reward will be useless and does not make sense when company who granted it give inadequate wages and inhumane working hours and workloads, as well as offering no career progression.

Based on my own experience as business owner, different position, different employee and different workload will need different reward based on so the most effective reward are combination between compliment (i call it recognition), money (bonus/ incentive), extra leave, flexible working hour or protected time off, and the last are opportunity for career path, but because my company are small and simple company with a few employees , i change promotion with training, course and certification program. I also give opportunity to my employee to lead a project and all reward has standarization or measurable results, not just based on hard work.

And that's because those appreciation won't feed them a day without having something in it. We all get recognition but after that, only a few good words and we'll be productive? That's not how it goes anymore. While for the new workers, I think that they're going to appreciate it a lot. It's boosting morale for being complimented for how efficient and hardworking we are but, should it all be it? no incentives?

With the power employers have I don't think your first line of statement is necessary because an employer isn't after how they would be loved and care for by their employees but actually the only thing they will accept as a respect is when the employees is getting their job done ordarly and diligently because already the respect to the employer is something that is like a tradition in every company and not a request for any employees even if your boss is always rude to you because the moment you disrespect your boss it marks the day of your termination in the job.

There is truth to your last sentence, when the boss is firm maybe this will make the employee turnover rate higher the reason that comes to my mind because sometimes there are employees who are not happy or less comfortable with things like this so they can make a decision to find another job that is more comfortable with the behavior of his boss. But even so the firm attitude of this boss does not necessarily mean giving full pressure because I think that basically we as employees have to work well and the firm attitude of this boss is an encouragement for us to work with focus, it's just that some people are not happy that they are too regulated and that is human.

There should be a difference in the relationship between the employer and the employee, that difference should be fear. The boss of the office is never a friend. If you want to build a friendly relationship with them, it will be against the policy. If an employer praises the employee because of his qualifications, it means that he expects better work from them.

An employee should never expect to get praise or encouragement from the employer because their relationship should be fear. Employees work for a salary, naturally if he does not do well, he will not get paid next week. There is basically no convenient stage between receiving praise or not receiving it.

Many bosses in the office expect better work by treating employees well, but an employee should understand his own boundaries and attract his attention through good work and not in any other way.

~snip~

Yeah, but tbh it shouldn’t be fear tho, what about when employees have input for the company, they should be able to tell their boss right? But if their relationship is based only on fear that input might never be conveyed and something that could have helped the company develop might be lost.

Personally, I’m not a friend with my boss outside of work, only at work my boss is simply my teammate and we respect each other. We remind each other when one of us forgets something at work. If I were afraid of my boss when he made a mistake I would just let him make the mistake and that wouldn’t be good for the company.

Should workers always look forward to being complimented or encouraged by their employers?
My mentor used to say to me, "Do the right thing, whether someone is watching or not. Whether you get appreciated or not, just keep doing what is right."

So to answer your question. I know complimenting someone is good. It shows they are valued, and it encourages them to do more. However, if their boss fails to compliment them. It shouldn't stop them from giving their best. They should keep on giving their best. One day, when they leave the job for another, then it will dawn on their boss what he just lost.

As an employer of labour, if what you prefer from your employee is fear rather than been loved then you don’t have the attributes of a good boss or employer..
Even statistics shows that, a most conducive and productive working environment take place when the boss or employer is more open to his or her employee, rather than been feared.. And when your employees are open to you, you’ll be able to get their opinions more often, and also you will be the first to hear when an issue arises that needs to be tackled urgently..

Praise from a supervisor for excellent performance certainly boosts spirit and motivation in one's work, which is crucial. Yet, not all employees appreciate such firmness, presenting a challenge that the supervisor must navigate.
Actually, it's not really a challenge for the management to give directions to all their employees. Because if there's an employee who doesn't like the firmness of the management to enforce discipline in the company, then that employee can be dismissed or removed from the company. In other words, an employee who refuses to follow their manager's firmness is someone who simply doesn't have the intention to work at the company. So the management doesn't need to feel burdened by this, because basically, every employee has already promised to follow the company's rules during the interview and must also follow the directions of their own manager.

We should at least treat our employer with love and kindness so that they also enjoy working because everyone loves their own respect, so until we respect our employees, no one will use good words for our development. Employer always tries to be good in front of his boss and work honestly so that his boss is happy with his work and he uses good words for his employees. Although he can explain it to him nicely and lovingly for 2-3 mistakes and when he is not able to tolerate it, he can be strict with you, so that the employee will not make that mistake again. With this, each of your employees will say good words for you and the work they are doing for your development will start doing even better.
The issue of employer and employee relationship is one that will be best tackled, when there are laws guiding the working environment. I believe that both the employees and the employer should know that the working environment is an official environment and should respect that fact.

Understanding of this is key because when an employee understands this fact his disposition in the office setting will be in such a way that, it will not make him to see his boss as casual. This same thing should also apply to the employer not to see his workers as just working for him.

Understanding of what the office setting is is key to solving this type of problems. Again one thing that sets in in office setting is over familiarity, this is one this that every employee should try to avoid. Because I have seen that most times when a new worker enters an organization or office. Such people usually respects and attends to the work with caution and diligence but over time that dies off, this is not good and usually causes problems in the working environment.

This also talks about the moral values of a person. If the owner has good morals he will never impose his fear on his employee, but will understand his mistakes and worries. Your morals will also be greatly influenced in society because a person is known according to his moral values. This applies not only to the owner but also to the elders of the family or relatives who should show softness and openness in their morals so that if someone has to talk they can  stop doing it due to fear. For example if the parents are angry and fear inducing their children will hide their mistakes instead of telling them because they will know that they will be severely punished. But if the parents are kind and loving the children will also make fewer mistakes and tell their parents everything.

We should at least treat our employer with love and kindness so that they also enjoy working because everyone loves their own respect, so until we respect our employees, no one will use good words for our development. Employer always tries to be good in front of his boss and work honestly so that his boss is happy with his work and he uses good words for his employees. If you want progress and respect, then it is important to respect someone for this, but this does not mean that every time an employee makes a mistake, you should hit him.

The laws specify how employers and employees should behave. Going beyond this framework is not acceptable. Beyond the rules set by law, employers and employees also have their own rules for ensuring a proper work environment. The important thing is for people to respect each other and contribute to the progress of the work. If there is a workplace environment that respects and adheres to work rules, this is a positive situation and yields positive results for both the business and the employee.

Excessive familiarity is an undesirable behavior in the workplace. It should not be forgotten that the purpose of being there is to do work. Of course, a friendly environment can make an employee more committed to their work, but excessive familiarity is not good for the work environment.

You are wrong, if a boss is played and not strict with their employers, they don't take the job with full hand. Check the stats again, you will see that boss that are strict with their job and don't play around tend to have successful business unlike the playful boss. However, I think if a boss want be strict they should be strick only the time of work and not when they are outside with their workers, if you are not playful when you are outside then it means you are not a boss.

Complement have a way it makes ones emotion want to do the job, it's not everything that is about money, you have to make the relationship even friendly even though you are tough and like I say in the first page of this post, I like to be complemented even though I don't get paid enough, it's those simple gesture that makes employees want to stay for the job when things are not doing well for the place of work but if it's about money, everyone will leave when the money doesn't come again.

Compliments are just a corporate substitute for actual bonuses. I don't need my boss to love me or fear me, I just need the fiat to hit my account on time.

If I wanted a pat on the head and a "good boy", I'd be a golden retriever. A compliment doesn't buy Bitcoin. Just pay me.

Should workers always look forward to being complimented or encouraged by their employers?

Well people go to school just for this and come back with degrees on how to keep an employee motivated!!

Human resource manager's, who are pretty much agents of an employer will always find ways to keep the employees encouraged and this can be done in many different ways, bonuses for recent work done, a nice exclusive lunch outing with the team etcetera and depending on the kind of work and how big the team is, compliments or words of encouragement can be given once in a while , like a senior personnel saying something in the lines of if you keep doing your job you will surely take over me or I will be out of a job etc
But "professional" compliments should be given to just make a neutral environment without having to create untouched cliques in an organisation.
