This is to all newbies and old members too. Threads are created in this forum everyday and they are on different topics concerning different things. So before you create a thread use the search function to check if the thread you want to create has recently been created by another member.
For newbies who don’t know, your thread will be locked if it has recently been created and posted by another person. So always use the search function in the forum to know if the discussion or information you want to create thread for has already been posted by another member.
Is better you use the search feature than to stress yourself creating thread only to have it locked, move to off topic or deleted.

This is not just for beginners it's for all, because we all creates new threads everyday. This platform is big with differences threads, OP advice is clear search the function bar before creating any thread to avoid repeating topics. So you know, we have moderators that up and doing, they will trace any duplicate thread and move it to off-topic or they will deleted the thread. To avoid wasted efforts do a diligent search and create thread that's worth engaging.

This is a good advice but it is poorly written especially when a similar topic that is much more helpful and better was posted about it two days ago. The Bitcointalk Tools Every New Member Should Know AboutGo through the number 2 of the posts which give more information. Google search engine and forum search can also be very helpful.

I see that you are focusing your thread more on warning beginners and also on topics which have recently been created. How about questions which have been asked and answered before by others, but the thread has not been active. What do you suggest in such a case? Unless the thread is locked or the content is not entirely related to what you are asking, one can always bump up such a thread. Forum search: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=searchPosting a post without reading previous posts in a discussion and searching is bad. Creating a topic without searching whether forum has topics about that issue, is also bad. I found this reply from another thread appropriate here as you have missed to add how to search in your thread.

So you know, we have moderators that up and doing, they will trace any duplicate thread and move it to off-topic or they will deleted the thread. To avoid wasted efforts do a diligent search and create thread that's worth engaging. The problem is that most beginners don't know how to use the search tool and sometimes lack a tutorship which makes the person make posts randomly and create threads for each question or anything he doesn't know or confused about. This is a call for all to learn this search tool in order to minimise this duplication of threads. Some of these threads end up getting locked or deleted. There can be many confusions in this search tool in the initial stage because you have to search keywords because these old threads does not actually appear in the exact order of your duplicate version but it may also mean the same thing in the real sense. Learning how to use the search tool should be among the initial first practice to learn because it will be helpful in keeping you up to date with previous deliberations on the same topic.

That's right but also the forum kicks against going to write on threads that are already very old and inactive and in such cases, it is egg advised to create new threads about such topics. I don't think we should be worried about our threads being deleted because to me, ad long as a topic is a good and relevant one, there wouldn't be any much reason to be worried about it been deleted as the best any moderator can do in such cases is simply to lock the thread and point to the relevant thread but yes the search button is still very helpful in cases like this but shouldn't limit people from sharing their ideas.

As the name suggests, the Beginners & Help board is a great place for beginners to start. Here, beginners can find out what they should do through the available threads, including the pinned thread titled [General] Bitcoin Wallets - Which, what, why? The search function isn’t just for beginners—it’s also useful for experienced users.

The forum search function isn’t the most easiest to use. Without applying the proper filter, it would give you a bunch of results that might be distance from what you expected. Being a newbie and coming to be asked to use such function immediately presents some difficulty. For some newbies, they don’t even know such a thing exists, that’s why you would find them being surprised and act the part when their thread gets locked or deleted. Is better you use the search feature than to stress yourself creating thread only to have it locked, move to off topic or deleted.
Not the worst action in the forum, at least it gives moderators some use and forum users a report score.

Yeah this thread is needed because the pinned threads is not directed mainly or only on this matter of using the search function before creating a thread. A lot of people don’t even bother reading all those informations or write up on the pin threads and that is why you see threads of what has been written recently being posted on the forum day in day out. My thread is directed and only for this issue, I believe everyone will see it, just by reading the title you will understand the message I’m passing. That's right but also the forum kicks against going to write on threads that are already very old and inactive and in such cases, it is egg advised to create new threads about such topics.
The forum those not kick against writing on threads that are old, what the forum kick against is going to those old threads to spam. Basically the forum is against spam. If you have a useful, informative and helpful thing to say on an old thread you can post it there and no one will call it a spam or say is against the forum rule.

I have seen threads that are created just to bring out a similar opinion from a previous one that haven't even been a week. And I am aware that they are based on the fact that most times, opinions aren't seen, so most folks like their ideas to stand out.But that shouldn't be the case, as threads are supposed to be created based on something new that is yet to be talked about, or that has been long talked about. If not they are just going to be deleted and it would be wasted effort. So yeah, that's all..

True but this should also be for older members too, not only newbies.
But it’s obvious that he mentioned but old guys and new newbies or are you saying you didn’t read through it properly? However OP, I guess you’re probably doing same thing because threads which has this lines are so much repeated if you use the search button yourself. So it’s like serving what you should be served anyways I hope you, me and others too learn from it.

Yeah this is definitely helpful to save up time having duplicates topics and also they can also find related topics to help them learn more about those matters they want to learn. For so many years of existence of this forum there are lots of topic been discuss and for sure that those information they find is already there. That's why sometimes there's no sense to create another one if the intention is for spamming, but if the topic they are looking for is closed or lock and well they could able to revive by creating new one if they have more valuable updates or new information to contribute. They possibly discover lots of interesting things in this forum, if they regularly use that feature.

Well, I totally agree with what the OP said, and it would be better for all forum users to check first; whether the thread they are going to discuss has already been opened (for discussion), or not. Additionally, you can also simply just use a "Google search" by typing in a title that matches the topic you want to discuss. For example, you can see my search results, below :

This is great but if you’re using the Google search engine and you’re not good with key words, you may not get the answer you want. I don’t know how this has been improved overtime but that’s the problem faced searching from Google search engine and not getting optimised especially in a large forum like this where you need precise answers. Incase you haven't seen something like this, let me draw your attention to it that, if a thread haven't been attended to since the last 120 days, there's always a prompt when you want to reply letting you know that, the thread is already old and always preferred to start new thread thank commenting on such threads.
I remember seeing such prompt in my early days in the forum where one just decided to scan through the forum and want to reply to any thread without minding the last time the thread was active. The message that pops out there says it all and if you’re to heed to the message there, it’ll be safer for you and not seen as another spammer as many will call it here in the forum.

You got a very factual clip about this because negligence or ignorance to use the forum search space to checkmate if the ideal or information you want to publish had already been in existence or not. I also want to believe that related threads on this same discussion had been treated here in some occasions. Only that some member For newbies who don’t know, your thread will be locked if it has recently been created and posted by another person. So always use the search function in the forum to know if the discussion or information you want to create thread for has already been posted by another members are not still taking the caution which had also resulted to the Moderators taking them down. Just a piece of information for newbies, this regard of reputation posts can be assumed as spamming also, so you should know how you are risking your account on that csuse.

This is a good advice but it is poorly written especially when a similar topic that is much more helpful and better was posted about it two days ago. The Bitcointalk Tools Every New Member Should Know AboutGo through the number 2 of the posts which give more information. Google search engine and forum search can also be very helpful. Both the "search" in this topic and the one you referenced can help you find the posts and topics that's been created but the message from this Op and that one isn't totally the same. While this topic is trying to sensitize BTT users especially newbies why it's important to always make their research about a particular topic to know if something similar has been discussed before, the one you referenced is talking to people who are searching what they already know exists in the forum but probably don't know how to find them. Both are about search but slightly different topics of discussion. One of the most common problems for new members is missing important notifications. Someone might have quoted your post, replied to a topic, or sent you a Merit, but you might not have noticed until hours or days later.

You might be right sir but at some point, I think the high rate of alt accounts makes it very difficult for newbie accounts to grow and these bunch of alt accounts make it seems every newbie account who writes very well is an altcoin especially when the account associates itself with 3rd world countries and when they write genuinely as newbies they are who are trying to figure their way round the forum, they are easily tagged as shitposters and spammers which makes me feel for them You would agree with me that, creating threads would be one of the best way to expose yourself to the forum because the more people see you, especially when you write more interesting and worthy post, people will be more interested in going through your profile and rewarding your work, so I wouldn't have to totally blame newbies when they create more threads but where they issues lies Is, if these threads they create are good ones or just another trash for visibility sake .
