Your thread will work well as a reminder for newbies, but since you haven't provided any kind of link through which users can learn how to use the search feature, users will have a lot of difficulty or they may never be able to find out by searching whether their topic is already available on the forum. I opened and checked all the links posted in this thread, but no search tool is perfect. I mainly use Google Search to check if there is any topic on the forum like the one I want to write about. If there is a topic with that name but there is not much information in the topic then I open topic by giving information।

This thread can be a reminder but it is less helpful because OP did not post with any links for searching. Newbies after reading the first post, will have to wonder how to search and perhaps with their laziness and carelessness, they will give up quickly. A good guide thread needs to have details, links directly to where to search. I and other users already posted threads about that and suggested to lock this thread. OP ignored all these advice, did not add any details to the first post, did not lock this thread and generally, I see this thread is neither helpful nor necessary.

This is to all newbies and old members too. Threads are created in this forum everyday and they are on different topics concerning different things. So before you create a thread use the search function to check if the thread you want to create has recently been created by another member.
For newbies who don’t know, your thread will be locked if it has recently been created and posted by another person. So always use the search function in the forum to know if the discussion or information you want to create thread for has already been posted by another member.
Is better you use the search feature than to stress yourself creating thread only to have it locked, move to off topic or deleted.
It also comes with some level of discouragement to have created a thread, used all the time to think about the subject matter in your mind, make it live by creating the thread and suddenly the thread gets moved to off topic or locked. It does not make any sense and shows the person is either a newbie or a lazy old member. So, always learn to use the search bar because it was created for such purposes. The forum is a center where ideas are shared and discussed, concepts brought up and conversations are shared in search of answers to one problem or another issue. It is not a forum where you just come and spam, so whatever you intend to talk about, has to pass through some self checklist which includes content relevance, problem solving, not plagiarized or formed, it has to be authentic, straightforward and natural. There’s no point cooking up stories when it’s false and misleading, these are a few criteria or checklists we should individually set for ourselves when creating a new thread.

The thread is still helpful to some extent. At least newbies will know there is something like search function on the forum here, and they will be able to figure out how they going to make use of it. Don’t be surprise that some newbies don’t even know there is something like search function on the forum here. I will say the thread will enlighten them, and it’s left for them to take their time to do more research about it. As a newbie thats here to learn, you shouldn’t be lazy to do research about how search functions works, and I don’t even think that will make someone give up. If you are on the forum, and you can’t make some research’s, then you should just leave, because forum is not for people like that. I agree that the OP should have added more information’s about it, but even the little which he made is going to help newbies coming to the forum.

Helpful in a way of helping spammers to get post quota. At least newbies will know there is something like search function on the forum here, and they will be able to figure out how they going to make use of it.
If Newbies can not look at the top, see the SEARCh, and HELP to figure out things, they will not likely see and read this thread.

Someone who have crypto related problems that needs urgent answe might not even know what that search area is for, I find out about the search many months later and even after I did, the search result looks confusing to my eye.
Trust me, most newbies won't want to use it, the focus will be on asking the question even if it's been asked so many times in the past, it's why moderators don't feel offended when beginners repeat questions using new topics, they will atleast have to delete it.
Old members would have grown to understand why it makes no sense to repeat same questions over and over again, compared to someone who is very new and looking forward to get a problem solved.

As far as I have seen, the forum moderators are quite active. And in the Beginner & Help board that several threads have already been locked, especially those whose questions have already been answered. So if someone really wants to create a new topic to know something, I don't think there should be much of a problem with that. Once the question is answered, the moderator can lock the thread. Another problem is that it is really difficult to find old topics using search. I myself have tried to find old topics using BitList search tool but sometimes it is quite difficult to find similar topics due to the lack of accurate titles.

If someone creates a new topic to find out about something; that hasn't been discussed before, then I don't think that is an issue. However, the problem arises; when a new topic is created even though one covering the same subject already exists, then I think it is becomes a problem, and maybe that is what is known as "spam", right ? Besides that, I think the OP's goal in discussing this is to make it easier for beginners to get the information they want, and maybe it is also help the moderator. Personally, I often use the Google search engine to look up topics that have come up previously, and I use the date relevance feature to help with that.

Actually i do rarely use the search function here in the bitcointalk community instead I do use before which is the Ninjastic.space or currently now we are using is the Bitlist its easier with the use of the filters and other feature. Then like I used before when i was a newbie is having a word of "bitcointalk" at the end of the search like Patikno did here as quoted below. Additionally, you can also simply just use a "Google search" by typing in a title that matches the topic you want to discuss. For example, you can see my search results, below : But seems some of the newbies right now are focusing with their post count or activity to increase for a faster rank up so possible they might not or rarely use the search button.

The best step is still to use the search feature before making a new thread so that there are no repeated threads. However, after searching, it can still be confusing if you don’t find the question you want or there isn’t a thread that specifically matches what you’re looking for, so it’s okay to create a new thread. Sometimes having a new thread even if it’s repetitive can also be very helpful for other beginners who don’t understand how to use the forum features at all. For example about this thread, I’m sure there are some beginners who really don’t use the search feature, but after reading this they’ll understand. The same goes for threads about scams or wallet security that often repeat, but believe me, indirectly, reading threads like this reminds us again that wallet security and avoiding scams is not a trivial matter. I mean, why this becomes a reminder is because almost every year there are always people who become victims of scams or lose access to their wallets.

In a situation like this I would say that it is not that bad or should not be deleted, The ones I know is bad or unacceptable is when two persons create a topic and if you go through their topics you would see that the both of them are just sharing the same idea/ opinion, in this case I will say that one of the topic should be deleted or Lock up.

Some topics might have been created a long time ago. There might have been new ideas or upgrades to existing ones in such a topic. The creator of such an old thread might have become inactive. It might not be out of place to create a new one to update members with current information. The old thread should also be referenced in the new thread to show that it is a new edition. Using the search option is a must for users who are interested in creating threads.

I agree with this. The search function is more useful than many new members realize. Before starting a thread, I think it is worth checking not only the title but also a few related keywords, because an older discussion may already contain the answers or experiences you are looking for. It also helps us contribute something new instead of repeating the same points. Sometimes the best way to start a good discussion is to search first, learn from what has already been shared, and then add a fresh perspective. I believe that habit can make the forum more useful for everyone.

They usually don’t navigate through the forum completely, they come directly to creating new thread as if it is a criteria for them to be a member of the forum not knowing that they can gain anything they want in the forum through responding to other people posts as long as it is a response that have good impact to the forum; since they don’t like to navigate through the forum, they don’t know that the forum have such function to be used to get what they wanted instead of creating new threads. Bitlist is also very good to be used, it have more functions that will make the forum easier for beginners and everyone, you can search for several things including address, threads, keywords and so on, it’s a good tool to track so many things in the forum.

Sometimes the best way to start a good discussion is to search first, learn from what has already been shared, and then add a fresh perspective. I believe that habit can make the forum more useful for everyone. Here's the irony as a similar thread like this will already be existing on the forum but as a reminder was created then it can serve it's purpose of educating users that are acting out of ignorance. I'm all in on some quality discussion but not the generic nonsense that's taking over, I love to read new topics especially one written from another perspective even though they have similarities with previous topics as it add knowledge to my mind. Also it isn't just about newbies searching the forum but they should do less of writing and focus more on reading as that'll help them more and reduce their high rate of adding low value content to the forum. If the newbies gave excuse of not knowing how to the use the forum search bar then they should learn to make use of other search engines like Google as that'll give them good result too.

Although the thread is an educative one but old and a member established and reputable made a statement concerning it that it would have been better to create a new thread referencing the thread in particular. If I may ask is there any penalty for bumping such an old thread?

It is better not to discuss old topics, since the discussion about that thread is over and it is very old. So it is better not to bring up all those threads, because we are moving towards the future, so it is best to have a more developed and informative discussion. Although the thread is an educative one but old and a member established and reputable made a statement concerning it that it would have been better to create a new thread referencing the thread in particular. If you discuss an old topic and mention the same thing over and over again, it is useless. So you may get punished for it by the senior and DT members of this forum, because we prefer to discuss the future, not the past.

Making use of the searching engine is very necessary for every member to make post properly, the search engine will enable you to no which post that has been posted , and the topics that have not been created, but not making use of the search engine will make you create topic , and make post without being properly informed. There were some of us who made these errors as newbies, but this idea of using search engine before making post has put us on alignment, and as a newbie you have to imbibe this idea if you must create good topics, and make your post properly. It will not be good that each time you make a post or create topic , your topic is already created before by another member, such attitude will not earn you any progress or make you grow within the Bitcoin forum.

Sometimes old threads carries informative ideas which could still be discussed or looked into in a higher and different perspective. Such could be maybe a technology that was upgraded with new features and someone decides to bump such thread calling the attention or notice of the community about such technology upgrade. Do you think it is not nice to bump such thread? Since it is a product and service would it not be better to do so for the community to be aware via bumping up the thread?
