Lamont Roach and William Zepeda will slug it out this weekend for the vacant WBC Lightweight title. On papers this fight is interesting since both fighter holds a nice record with Roach having 25 wins with only a single defeat and have 10 knockouts while Zepeda got 33 wins also got 1 defeat and an amazing 27 knockouts. Zepeda's only loss came from Shakur Stevenson on July of last year.

As per betting odds, Lamont Roach is the favorite to win this fight but i think Zepeda is a very live underdog here.

I’m not that familiar with William Zepeda, but looking at his record, 33-1 with a high knockout rate, he looks like a dangerous fighter.

Both guys only have one loss. Zepeda lost to Shakur, while Roach lost to Jamel Herring, so this should be a pretty interesting fight.

As for the odds, Lamont Roach Jr is priced at around +470 by KO/TKO and +105 by decision, while Zepeda is +360 by KO/TKO and +320 by decision. The draw is around +1500. So yeah, Zepeda is clearly the underdog here, but I might still take him. Roach got a lot of hype after that close fight with Davis, but maybe people are giving him too much credit for almost winning.

This is a very difficult match to select, and I also prefer to bet on more well known boxers because I do not frequently bet on boxing. So my discussion on this thread is not whom I want to bet on but who I think would win the match.

With the information that I have gathered together, to know who is going to be the winner between Lamont Roach and William Zepeda is going to be difficult, but I think if William Zepeda is not defeated up to the 12th round, he has the higher chance to win.

Although Zepeda is underdog in this game, but i was impressed with how he gave a hard game to game to Shakur. Meanwhile, Roach seems a bit underperformance because he never won since his 2024 game. So i think Zepeda seems slightly above Roach due to the how underperform Roach is.

I admit Roach was also doing two competitive games since last year, but he never delivered. So i decide to put Zepeda as my favorite.

If Zepeda play like he fought Shakur. He can win this.

Lamont Roach give Tank Davis one hell of a fight, and we thought that Davis could have lost that fight. There's controversial in that fight wherein Davis took a knee but the referee didn't count it a knockdown. And then Tank walk into his corner and ask to wipe his face. And if the referee rule it as a knockdown, Roach could have won that fight.

So I think Roach might go and won this fight via decision as he is the more technical and polished fighter between the two. Specially if he can control the fight early on with his sharp jab and not allowing Zepeda to overwhelm him with power. And not just the jab, but Roach has good counter too that might frustrate Zepeda all throughout the fight and can't land his power punches.

Below are the other options on betting this fight aside from the ML odds. Yeah, this is an interesting fight as both had a chance to win this one. This will not be a boring fight to watch as William Zepeda is more than willing to engage as that is his style. Roach is the more technical fighter of the two but he could be overwhelmed by those volume punches that Zepeda will throw so with that i'm leaning more on a Zepeda win by decision.

Roach is a solid guy, but I consider him a weak champion. Zepeda looked like a great prospect, though he has not quite lived up to expectations. This will be very evenly matched. Roach isn’t anywhere near Shakur’s level of defensiveness. I think if Zepeda is aggressive and throws lots of punches, like he usually does, Roach will have a hard time beating him.

Agreed, i hope zepeda can live our expectation to see him form when the fought shakuer. However, i try to do a pre match bet on zepeda but can't find any at stake.

It's too far to take shakur's devensiveness as a comparison to roach. I remind you roach got MD against cruz, which i think cruz is below zepeda due to stats. So zepeda is clearly underrated here.

What I was reminded of again from the Joshua vs. Prenga fight is that stats have to be taken with a grain of salt. I know that in super heavyweight there is more lucky punch potential, but Prenga showed a roller coaster like I think I have never seen before. These are Prenga's stats before the fight against Joshua.

At first I thought it explains why Prenga was so close to knocking Joshua out, but then one punch was enough in the second round to actually get knocked out himself. Afterwards they discussed his former opponents and said that there was not a single fight on the very highest level and that Prenga must have been shocked that Joshua stood up more than once and just kept fighting. That is why I think having a look at the quality of those former opponents is definitely important. Opponent quality makes a huge difference.

The stats look impressive for both fighters, but it would be more interesting to see who fought the better fighters. That's what really puts these stats into perspective. Zepeda reminds me a bit of Prenga here because he had no highest elite fights except for one against Stevenson and that was the one defeat he has.

Roach has seemingly worse stats, but see who he fought and did not lose. Davis, the Pitbull or Herring (Roach lost). There were some controversial draws involved as well, but he proved in those fights that he can take on the best in the world. The fight against Herring was for his WBO title and it was very close to Herring getting knocked out in one of the final rounds.

For me boxing between Roach Jr. vs Zepeda is interesting to watch and shouldn't be missed, I often see the two dueling in the ring with different opponents, maybe if I'm not mistaken the Roach Jr. fight will be. vs Zepeda, this is the first meeting, it is clear that both of them have unique qualities when dueling.

August 1 means next Saturday, considering that for both of them, of course as far as I know Zepeda is more experienced in the ring, Roach has recorded 25 wins, 1 loss, while Zepeda has recorded 33 wins and 1 loss, maybe I don't care about their winning records, What I want to say is that if the two of them duel next Saturday, of course both of them will have a good chance to determine their fate as WBC lightweight world champion. This is the most valuable moment for a professional boxer in the world class.

I personally can only hope that a fight between Roach Jr. and Zepeda can take place professionally and can bring one of them to be the best boxer for this year, Even though one is a professional boxer and the other is an aggressive boxer, I believe they will both do their best.

Tank lost the fight to Roach, and anyone who says otherwise is just deluded fanboys! I like Tank as a boxer, but getting down on one knee during a fight is considered a knockdown, and going to your corner without a warning from the referee is a disqualification. Other than that, Roach has a very good skillset; if he can mimic Shakur's style a bit, he'll be able to win easily, because Zepeda is great at throwing a lot of punches and pressuring his opponents.

I don't even think Zepeda is an underdog; it's going to be a fairly even match. Zepeda has a better knockout percentage than Lamont, so betting for Zepeda is profitable.
But performance-wise, based on their last fights, Lamont Roach almost beat Herring if not for the lack of time. For Lamont to beat Zepeda, he needs to do counterpunching, as Zepeda is known as a pressure fighter and loves to move forward.
I expect a lot of action in this fight, and the promoters and the organization picked the right fighters for the crown; they deserve to be title contenders.

I can see him win if he learnt from his mistake against shakur because roach is not as strong as shakur. I he brings his vs shakur form with some improvements, i can see roach to be outplayed by him.

We have the same bet mate, i've got mind @3.50.
Though i think Lamont Roach is the more technical between the two but seeing Jamel Herring beat Roach i could say that Zepeda here has a chance against him. The volume of punches would surely pose some problems on the defense of Roach that is why i decided to bet for Zepeda. There is some movement on the ML odds as it is almost even now, with that i think people were putting their money on Zepeda. This is an exciting fight and for sure we will be treated to some action with these fighters today.

The Theater at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas is already lit tonight and the match has kicked off already for the WBC lightweight championship.

I don't detest your choice but I am going for Roach Jr. who is better for his accuracy and ring control making him more of a better professional boxer with good techniques. Whereas, Zepeda may have worked on one or two of his flaws from his last encounter with Shakur, but his work rate might just be silenced by a more technical and calculative Roach.

I'm betting on Zepeda against my cousin for a round of drinks. The fight will happen before noon in our time zone, so whoever loses is going to treat the winner to a round of drinks at night.
It's unlikely that we will see this live stream on social media because neither fighter is that popular, but we can try live updates; it's as good as watching it live.

Lamont Roach has shown it several times that he’s a pretty durable and disciplined fighter.

He rarely goes out of position for long and he knows how to preserve his energy well.

A couple of his fights i watched, i never really saw any instance where he wilted simply because the pace of his opponent in the ring got him uncomfortable, he knows how to handle pressure; his fight with tank was proof.

Zepeda is a pressure fighter but even he is piling punches up, throwing volume is not the same as landing damaging shots.
Now unless Zepeda can be able to consistently trap Roach on the ropes and invest heavy shots to his body, he is less likely to get a stoppage than a close decision.

In my opinion, the mostly likely outcome of that fight is Roach winning by decision.
Zepeda is dangerous but i believe Roach can handle him.

I feel like this fight is gonna be one of those fights where half of the fans are gonna be arguing about the scorecard long after the fight is over.

So Roach lost this fight, I was wrong in my prediction as I thought that the technical boxer in Roach should overcome a volume puncher in Zepeda. The score in the judges scorecard is  117-111, 117-111, 118-110 to capture the vacant WBC lightweight title.

And now just the volume, but it has power too and perhaps that was the biggest problem with Roach as he hasn't face this kind of boxer. Roach try to counter, but it's not enough to stop Zepeda from moving forward and throwing a lot of punches that sooner or later is going to hit.
