The answer of your question is Yes, governments should invest far more in disaster prevention and mitigation rather than relying on reactive disaster recovery. From an economic perspective, waiting to rebuild after a disaster is the single most expensive and inefficient way to manage national infrastructure and public finance. Studies by the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) demonstrate that every $1 invested in disaster mitigation saves $6 in avoided damages and cleanup costs.

Climate change isn't only an environmental issue instead it has become a major economic challenge in today's world.
Floods , heat waves and droughts are causing billions of dollars damage every year.

• It increases crops failures , reduces food production and increase food prices.
• Governments ought to spend more on renovation and rebuilding roads , bridges and public services.
• Businesses may close partially or permanently after disasters.

My question is that " Should governments invest more in disaster prevention rather than disaster recovery ?

When the climate of a country changes, the economic position of the country changes a lot, especially there are some seasons in which the economy tends to deteriorate. However, the government has no hand in this climate, it is naturally created, these disasters come according to the season, but the damages are storms, river erosion, and crop damage, which worsen the financial position a lot. However, if the government wants, it can give climate and weather forecasts through advanced technology from which people will be careful with everything they need. When there is disaster warning, the country's infrastructure will be less damaged, a lot of damage is caused in the country due to disasters, so a lot of money is spent on them by the government to complete them. Therefore, to control disasters, the government should build the country's infrastructure through advanced technology so that it is not damaged too much when a disaster comes.

Its part of the government to have a procurement process and approval for these kinds of damages from the natural occurrence so they can rebuild immediately and makes a continuous progress of their crops to deliver into their destination this will avoid getting rotten and also to the businesses to make a continues operation but does the government really do their job? this is the reason why I envy other countries such as Japan they can rebuilt damages from their cities instantly and the government really care and value the humanity here in my country tons of corrupt who earns a lot of money through having a cut of percentage that will direct to their wallets and not for the ease of the economy.

The biggest disaster that appears to be happening right now is climate change, but as it requires 200+ countries to work together and potentially quash their own economic growth - we see that is just not going to happen. So the world will continue to boil, but we don't know what the fall out will be. Ice caps will melt, sea levels will rise, jet streams will disappear and it might ironically end up in a new ice age.. but there will be a lot more heat before that happens. Many parts of the world that generate food will start to struggle so unless we can solve crop problems (like possibly moving it indoors at an industrial scale) then more people will be fighting for fewer resources. Crops will fail and livestock will struggle greatly, this big disaster is happening around us right now and scientists have been warning about it for 30+ years

I think the government should take preventive measures, there are once that can be prevented and there are once that cannot be prevented,so the once that is preventable should be done ,and also we should help the government in doing the once we can ,for insane in my country flood is the major one affecting us, and you will see human disposing trash in the gutters causing blockage, and these flood destroy crops ,chase people out there houses and destroy business, so the government should focus or invest more on disaster prevention.

Government policies supercedes in every aspect and most times we see government as the god we see because they virtually responds to everything that happens both preventable and non preventable occurrence. Most disasters are product of climatic changes and are also influenced by everyday human activities. As a person we all have a role to play in the society that can reduce much of this natural disasters that happen year in year out by regulation of our engagement with the environment. In a flood prone areas, a strict law guiding the citizens on waterways blocking and incessant dumping of refuse should be seen as a serious offence. Flood is one of the most destructive preventable natural disasters so every government can improve their supervision of waterways. Bush burning should be highly prohibited at all levels because this bush burning sometimes lead to wildfires that destroys millions of dollars worth of resources. Several wildfires reports revealed that about 85% of wildfires in the US are product of human activities ranging from debris burning to mild bush burning https://www.nps.gov/articles/wildfire-causes-and-evaluation.htm. This can be prevented if humans are more careful in their everyday dealings with the environment.

Most of the disasters also occur as a result of another disaster which is why prevention of one disaster can also prevent another one. The unpreventable ones are beyond our control but being more intentional about environmental regulations and encourage the use of solar powered systems, wind powered, hydro power and many environmental friendly power sources instead of concentrating on fossil fuels. Recycling systems should be encouraged. All these help to reduce ozone layer depletion to also minimise the rate of occurrence of these disasters.

Well, apparently, a lot of us have similar complaints and problems with our governments for not doing things that they should do without actually being asked for it, or I should say, being forced to do it, because why would you make your people protest for things and raise their voice for things that the government should actually do as part of their job or duty?

In a democracy, when a party is elected through votes by people, those people are actually appointing them as the people who they believe will manage everything properly and do what they are supposed to do, but those who get elected easily forget their actual roles and then need reminding, which is unfortunate.

Whether it's about rebuilding infrastructure after natural disasters or creating better infrastructure in the first place, it is all the government's duty and must be done in its due time. If they don't do it, or even if they do it, it is not done up to the quality standards that it should be done with, that clearly shows that there is corruption, and those in control are spending less on infrastructure and keeping more for themselves by trying to fool their people into believing that they have spent the whole budget allocated for it, but people are getting smarter nowadays, and they totally understand what is happening.

The government cannot deal with all disasters, it is impossible for them, such as natural disasters like earthquakes, tidal waves, tornadoes, tsunamis, volcanoes, etc. It is impossible to deal with disasters. But it is possible to prevent them, its impact spreads to populated areas and it is possible to prevent this spread, in this case the government can take adequate preventive measures. Floods can be dealt with but not always,
when the flood exceeds the danger level, it is impossible to prevent floods, but in this case there is a need to provide support to the people, in this case they can build resistance. So it is not always possible to prevent natural disasters, but it is possible to prevent their spread, the government should take steps on this issue.

Government must rebuild after a disaster, because it is important to bring people back to normal life. But if preventive measures are invested in advance, then the cost is greatly reduced later. For example, in our country floods occur almost every few years, and if the government can build more shelters, then the people of the flood affected areas will be able to prepare in advance.  Another point is that the biggest damage from disasters is on local people and small businesses. If the government just waits to pay compensation, then the economy will take a long time to turn around. Therefore, investing in preparation in advance along with recovery is a more realistic decision.

Developed countries at the ones that often make use of industrialized waste and release them to the environment and yet contributes zero effort to was making the environment more clean for a healthier living independently, why should everything have to come from the government when major production companies and organizations are the ones behind major pollutions we face today as increased global warming is given a red signal, all these are not helping the climate condition and that is why we could see that there are outbreak of epidemics whenever there is too much of environmental pollutions are related unregulated activities carried out by Man.
The US under Donald Trump has failed to make the necessary financial commitment towards compensating third-world nations for the environmental hazards they face because of the industrial activities of the most industrialised economies. Poor nations contribute little to global warming, but many of them bear the consequences.

Another problem is corruption. In my country, corrupt government officials prefer to collect bribes from multinationals rather than hold them responsible for polluting and destroying the environment. The government prefers money to protect the environment and the health of citizens.

Both should be considered, why focus on only one knowing fully well when this disaster take place many people find it very difficult to survive, lack of shelter, reason why government needs to pay more attention to the masses during the period of the disaster. I must say prevention is a whole lot of work and requires adequate funds, no doubt most of this disaster are natural while many are man made for example flood, though flood can be prevented in most case following the lack of proper drainage leading to blockage, this example clearly show how ignorance can lead to loss because when such damage is already done definitely people business get shut down for a moment. Disaster prevention and disaster recovery are the duty of the government to pay attention and help matters otherwise the masses will suffer.
