One can actually start a business without a degree, and their is nothing wrong with that, but I believe a business man would do better if he or she is educated. In various universities, they do study business or intreprenureship in the school, and the knowledge of this people who study business is never thesame with those who engage in business without studying business. When we were in school, we studied intreprenureship, and we were told the difference between an entrepreneur, and an ordinary business man, their mode of running business are never the same, an ordinary business man is always afraid of loosing money, and therefore finds it difficult to take financial risk, while those who study business in school knows the benefits of taking genue risk, and therefore becoming rich in due time.

It is very difficult to get a job in our country's job market, yet many people are unemployed with very good advanced degrees. Now people are giving more importance to business than job, especially job is a subordinate profession but business is an independent profession. In this country, all your personal desires, aspirations, plans and everything is managed according to your personal wishes but job is subordinate in which case you have to give accountability for your work to your boss. Here people basically find the difference where there is freedom in one profession and there is subordination in the other. Due to which people do business with little education instead of being educated and if they can set up a business according to their own plan, it is possible to be more successful than being educated.

Honestly, owning a business without education can be very challenging. You can comfortably run a business if you are educated than when you have no indepth knowledge of what you are doing.
When you look round the world, you will see successful business men, and most of them are well educated, they didn't just jump into doing business, but they became successful do to the level of education they have acquired. @Jubilee58, I disagree with your thoughts on this topic because having a degree doesn't automatically make you or guarantees you to becoming successful in a business. If that was it then many graduates wouldn't be roaming the streets with files applying for jobs when they can just start up some business and become better business owner because they are meant to be with indepth knowledge of running a business than a none degree holders.

The question you should be researching on after now is, those successful business tycoons you mentioned were they degree holders before they started their own business or it was with degree?

There's no guarantee that your business will succeed in the future and before venturing into any business make sure that you're the business type of person because you wouldn't expect someone that's poor in managing himself to manage a business and succeed. I will prefer to go to school before starting up any business because I will do it in a unique way based on my experience in school compared to a lame man.

I think what you said at the end totally depends on where you are from and whether schools or educational institutions from there actually teach students things that you expect to learn from school. In so many countries or regions, you basically only learn the basics of everything, you are not given proper training or education about anything specific that you  might be interested in, and you will need to gain experience on your own later with whatever the knowledge you've gained so far, which is the reason why so many people prefer to spend the money on a business instead of getting a degree.

If I have a budget, and the choice to either complete my education with it or start a small or medium-range business with it, and I know the conditions of the educational institutions in my country and whether I will actually get something beneficial after competing my education, then I will surely go for it, but if I know it's only going to waste my time and money and I won't get much out of it, then I would opt for starting a business and spend that time and money on my business.

Many spent years seeking academic certifications with hope at last they will make end needs with it but ends up going back to some illiterates for help while others choosed to invest wisely on business and now they are perfectly doing well. Nothing can be easy when there is not money to offer, but when you achieve the money first, the rest can be more easier to handle. Business is more important because when you have money as a businessman, education comes easy to handle, and people that are rich, they don’t have time for education anymore. They always look for where to get more money.

You don't need a degree to start a business. You just need the right skills and experience. Having passion in what you do, is enough to become successful. I'd just begin with a small business and grow my way up into a multi-national conglomerate. It's just how Walmart and others began.

You start small, then you end up building an "empire" in the long run. But most people want to run the "empire", without building a solid foundation first. In other words, they want quick results. This leads to failure in the long run. Nice and easy does the trick. Hope this helps.

Is that your answer? Or are you just asking a question? Well what you have to know is that people who go for business instead of degree might just be people that don't have opportunity to get a degree or can't afford it. While some are willing but their ability to comprehend education is very poor, so they go for the one that is easier for them according to the encounter I have had with some people. For that reason they go into business. If you give anybody opportunity to make their choices they will like to combine both, like having a business and going to school, or after getting a degree they will go into business. And going to school to get a degree is not just about to get a job thereafter, some course people do in higher institution are courses that help you to be self employed later in the future not really to get a job.

In conclusion: Education is good and business is good. If you have the choice to get educated and go into business, it's all good. And if you are not educated but like to go into business, it is not also bad. Where the problem is bad is when you are not educated and not skillful then you are not productive.

first of all I will like you to replace degree with education, Of course education is important to run a business because when You are not educated, running a business will be difficult for you, you might be skillful but will still need an educated person to run the educational part for you, that's why skillful uneducated people hire an educated person as an assistant to help them where they are not capable.

Your view from the beginning is wrong because you seem to think that with a bachelor's degree it is only to make ourselves as workers. Perhaps it is understandable if you look at the reality now but this view remains erroneous because since the beginning of education and a bachelor's degree is not as an initial benchmark that we only become workers but education is a way that we can learn formally (can also be non-formal) and a bachelor's degree is a sign that we have ended the process.

The current view on education is quite erroneous because job qualifications in some countries especially for developing or underdeveloped countries always make background and educational background as the main requirement.

Doesn't mean everyone who studied in college is better than everyone who did not, that was never meant to be the case. It means you are better yourself when you do graduate compared to YOU who did not, that is the important bit. Some genius who never went to college will be better than me, but he will be worse than himself if he did go to college.

Getting a degree is important to a lot of people, check the stats of people going to the university every year and those graduating, you would see that a lot of people are still interested in getting a degree. You can get a degree and also run a business. One problem with the system of education today is that the majority of courses or degrees we get from the university today are theory-based learning, which is not meeting the current reality, so that's why there's a high unemployment rate in our society today. Those that graduated had no practical skills learned in the end.

The structure of teaching today should be more effective-based learning (Practical ) than theoretical-based. Take you, for instance; our healthcare workers—doctors, pharmacists, nurses, lab scientists, and most engineers—don't lack jobs because those courses are more of practical-based learning.

I really don't think any Iis better than the other, be it business or acquiring a university degree. I think it's just personal preference or goals in life. It's good to aquire a university degree, even if you want to venture into business,  but I still know that people also learn trade without a university degree and still become successful in their line of business.  I really believe that most people venture into business rather than getting a university degree for 2 reasons.
Firstly they feel they are not smart enough to aquire a university degree, so they prefer to just star a business and hopefully they can excel in it. Secondly some people just don't care about university degree, because of lack of employment after taking a long time to aquire a degree and still can't get a job, so they rather venture into business,  rather than spend a long time acquiring education and still not getting a job.

It is never possible to achieve great success in life without knowledge. Knowledge helps a person to show the right way and learns to do the right thing at the right time and teaches about risks, so it is very important for every person to gain knowledge.

A degree is not required to start a business, but I think that starting a business by earning a degree can help a person achieve success in business quickly because the person understands which strategy he has to adopt to survive the business for a long time. By earning a degree, a person can learn about various other things such as discipline and responsibility and patience and consistency, and it is very important to have knowledge about these things to achieve success in business in real life.

Another topic in which individual cases are treated as if a universal norm applicable to all cases could be abstracted from them. I don't think it can be categorically stated that creating a business or getting a graduate is better than the other: for many studying a degree it will be nothing more than a waste of time and money in the sense of in-depth knowledge and motivation, but it will be the gateway to a large number of jobs; for many others, starting quickly will be a shortcut to start making money and creating something very early. I don't know while the OP is trying to make a generalisation as though he has done an interview on business owners and they told him they prefer having a business over a degree. Business has ethics and principles that helps it to grow. If you are not educated how will you know the best approach and practices to make your business stand out. Of course, some people run a business based on experience but exposure is very important because even in the learning environment (school), you can meet people who you share same business ideas with, and they can become your business associates after your degree.
       The real problem is not being able to become productive while you are seeking for a degree. Some people are so lazy that they focus all their energy in education and forget that after study, reality will set in or even in the course of studying they don't need to depend completely on their sponsors to foot all the fees, they too can proffer means of earning then afterwhich they have acquired the degree they can decide to focus more on their business.
       Again, many people depend so much on their degree and their field of study, they don't even want to explore in other areas that is why you see them hunting for jobs year after year but if they were versatile in other areas, they can have higher chances of being employed and make money because there is no way someone will have up to 3 to 4 skills and say that he has a misfortune with getting a job. The reason people choose business first is because the income ceiling is different from employees whose salaries increase by 10-20%/year. If a business grows, it can generate 4x as much income in 4 years. Moreover, the reality in the field is that many graduates are unemployed because of the difficulty of finding work. Every year, thousands of young graduates graduate, so the opportunity for employment is very small.
I also don't ignore the importance of a bachelor's degree, but the best way in my opinion is to study while running a small business. The time spent studying can be used to increase knowledge and in your spare time you can run a business with small capital while building relationships. Although some people believe that a degree is not an absolute requirement for achieving business success, a degree can function as insurance and help with systematic thinking, research, alumni networks, credibility with investors and work visas abroad.

So both are the best path for each individual, we often find people in our lives who are successful in business without a college degree, but those who have a college degree can also achieve success in business depending on their degree such as doctor, lawyer, architect and various other degrees.

Hope this isn't something in the lines of businesses can make more money than a degree, but what people don't share is that getting established as a business takes a lot of sacrifices and some people have given up along the way... sometimes location of the business is all it takes to succeed, otherwise we have degree holders around the world that are earning good monies but it has to be a field that has less expertise to be paid big money!

💯 We need an education to run a business as somethings are textbook stuff which can help in avoiding spoilage, cutting costs, and simply help in interpreting the law to run the business... Honestly it's easy to dispute this education business relationship, otherwise the world has evolved and we need to keep up.

As of what to pick, well let's just say some businesses can be taught from a young age and you get better with time while getting a degree exposes you to the textbook stuff without real life experience, but if both can be combined then you become extra exposed  and can make big money.

Degree and business are not rivals to each other so it can be a mistake to choose which one. Business can bring you a lot of money which may never be possible to earn from a job. But the problem is that profit in business is not guaranteed, so there is a chance of success as well as loss. Again, there is no guarantee that you will get a good job even after getting a degree. But nowadays we can see that the employment rate and income of highly educated people are higher than those with less education.

Personally, I would have started with a simple business idea, necessary skills and some capital along with my studies. But of course I would not have given up my degree thinking that the income from business would be higher than that from a job.
