Perhaps what's happening now is the compromise, some sort of a middle ground. No more displaying gambling sites at the front part of the shirts but it could be done somewhere else.
I think this is a great bargain for both parties. The influence of the gambling logos to the viewers is minimized a lot. Visibility is greatly reduced, but not completely removed. In a way, this is a win-win for both regulators and football clubs.
Popularity of sportsbook can’t be slow down by this kind small censorship since there’s a lot of ways to display the casino logo that will surely saw by viewers effectively. Ever since the popularity of sportsbook arise after pandemic, the total wager involved even with effort to slow it down is still increasing per year. There’s a thread recently discussing about the increased of total spending of US alone https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5589480.msg66982842#msg66982842.

To be honest, it’s just a formality. We all know that if a child wants to check out the sponsor, they will do so anyway whether the sponsor’s logo is on the front of the jersey or on the side it doesn’t really matter.
However, there’s not much we can do about it and neither can the tournament organizers or the team owners. We all know there’s a lot of money in the gambling industry. As a result, casinos are more than capable of sponsoring entire teams. Naturally the teams won’t refuse such large amounts of money.
If they were genuinely concerned about protecting children, they would completely prohibit casinos from sponsoring any teams. But that’s unlikely to happen because, in the end money is what matters everything.

First off it's high time people understood the fact that you really cannot separate gambling from sports infact the whole idea of sports betting is built entirely on sports. I understand the concerns for underaged and trying to reduce their exposure but the harsh reality is they shouldn't have started it all in the first place. It is very difficult to now let go of gambling from sports because after all though these are 2 different things but mostly what happens is gambling and sports have always been a beneficial symbiosis for both parties including in football. Although currently FIFA or federations such as UEFA still make the Prohibition of gambling even in the FIFA World Cup expressly reject all things that smell of gambling but they can not completely to release gambling from football. But this breakthrough could be an interesting thing because it now depends on the clubs in the EPL who have agreements with gambling sites to keep promoting. Previously there were some clubs that made this as a main sponsor such as Everton with a Stake but it seems with the new rules now Everton still keep this part of his jersey even though the placement is changed on the right arm. Things like this will definitely happen to other clubs even though there is a ban but will still be tricked most importantly they do not violate the new regulations. source

This approach is one of the best ones and it is one that is very recommendable more than the approach FIFA is trying to use now. I also commends FIFA’s approach but the effectiveness of what they’re doing it for is what I don’t think will be guaranteed. Family are the first stage of socialisation of a child and if the parents have failed in that aspect to tell or teach them the good and the wrongs and the society puts it into the children, it will be very hard for such children to get their feet back again and do as the parents require of them. Children access to gambling site are mostly due to negligence of the parent and if this is not stopped and only this FIFA’s approach is implemented, it is like cutting grass from the top without removing the root, it’ll still grow again.
Gr8t protecting of underage and teaching them what is right and wrong starta from the home really, and for that if the home failed I see no how that the child won't get exposed to gambling from the society regardless if they are watching football games or just communicating about the game with friends, but then banning of gambling ads on Major League entirely will be the most effective and not just the banning of front jersey display like this, although it could help but not so much can be achieved from it unless if it becomes total baned around the pitch and on the billboard.

There is a problem, even if the decision is not completely ineffective, it will not be able to completely protect minors from gambling. Although the front of the jersey is the most visible part of the gambling advertisement, besides that, there are various aspects of online advertising including the breaks in the broadcast of the match, advertisements around the field, social media, etc. The gambling establishments will continue to operate. And in this way, minors will also continue to be associated with gambling establishments.
Think for yourself, if the symbol of the same institution is on the sleeve of the jersey, and electronic advertisements are moving around the field and they go to see their advertisements during the break, do you think children will be alienated from that brand?
No, it will not.

If you think it's a good strategy to somehow reduce addiction that's welcome, but personally I think it doesn't change the position on the shirt at all, I don't understand how it can positively or negatively impact campaigns. I'm not an expert and perhaps someone more knowledgeable could give a comprehensive answer? I really can't understand the effectiveness.

To stop underage gambling completely then instead of stopping to display names of betting companies they should also display a message discouraging underage gambling and completely stop advertising gambling and prediction site adverts in the stadium. Then there must a massive campaign against underaged gambling these messages must go hand in hand.
Every betting company always has this ""18+"" or in their advert, not for persons under the age of 18. To me, this is enough disclaimer to those persons under the age of 18. Again, they are not totally removing the betting companies advertisement on the front of the jersey, they are to put it on either side of the arm shirt. I don't still think they will stop the advertisement. These betting companies generate lots of money for the clubs and league itself, so I don't think the club or league will be parting ways with these betting companies. I think just writing 18+ doesn't end the responsibility. Because repeated exposure is an advertisement in itself. Repeatedly seeing the logo starts to seem natural and socially acceptable even if no one bets right away. On the other hand clubs receive large amount of income from sponsorship, so it is not realistic to think that advertising will be completely stopped. So it doesn't matter if casino says 18+ or not. Rather we havew to ensure how to bring balance between commercial incentive and public health. Moving it out of the front and into less visible place is compromise in that direction. However someone should make a documentary on this to understand the impact it will have.

for sure this is not a way to reduce gambling related issues. Countries and governements are getting high profits from gambling taxation/taes from these companies. I would say that these are just palliatives or just a way (politically) to say "we are already working on this". What is worst, removing attention from regulated companies could just fuel illegal activities and inderectly scam companies It's not casual that there are many scams behind gambling platforms....

I remember that we discussed about it on this forum few years ago, but I thought what they wanted was a complete remover of the gambling sites name from players jerseys, not knowing it can be displayed elsewhere. If it is displayed elsewhere, I do not think it will reduce anything, people will still see the gambling ads, talk about it and make use of the gambling sites.
Maybe but it won't be like when it's in the front of the shirt, this is because people are more concerned with what's in front of the shirt that what's someplace else, kids want to know what the official sponsors are more than anything so if the companies logo appears in front of the player they are more likely to want to find out what they are but if it's just on the side then it might still ping interest but not as much as what's in the front.

In my opinion it's not effective at all. There's plenty of places where an addicted gambler can see an ad of a gambling site or just something that reminds them of gambling and it can trigger them. The thing is that when an organization demands to ban something, effectiveness is not on their mind. They just need to show that they are doing something, that they are not obtaining money for doing nothing.

The agreement that clubs had in 2023 to stop the display of names of betting companies' logos at the front of their matchday shirts will take effect from the new season. Names and logos of betting companies can fit into any other place in the shirt, not just the front. https://www.premierleague.com/en/news/3147426?The major reason for this development is to help control and reduce exposure of the underage to gambling advertisements through football games. In your opinion, how effective do you think this move will be to achieve the aim it is for since names and logos of gambling companies will still be branded visibly at other areas of the matchday shirts? I remember this initiative very well and how we discussed it here many years ago. I don't think this initiative is stupid and I think it will really reduce the impact of advertising on children, because the bottom of any T-shirt is actually a poster that demonstrates the views of the wearer. And of course, T-shirts are used for advertising and betting shops. I also know a guy who always wears a cap with the bookmaker's name on it, not because he gets paid, but because he got these clothes for free. Personally, I never wear such clothes.

every form of ads placement you come across today is strategic and has a reason for it. If you see an ads placed in front of a shirt, it is there so that it can easily catch attention of the target audience that are watching the player wearing the shirt. You can’t compare that with an ads placed in the other side of the shirt. The prices are also going to be different from that of the other places and it will be quite significant in it’s entire effectiveness.

You will remove that and literally all the commercial that comes up in-between the game are gambling related commercial? who are you trying to deceive? we have to at this point agree that being disciplined is now a thing that every individual has to intentionally work on because most of the things we fight against are nearer to us than we even know. Literally, all sports journalist promote gambling. gambling ads are more than other ads and casino and sports betting platform spend a lot of money pushing these ads through different media outlet to players through an algorithm that directly get at people that are even more vulnerable to gambling addiction. ofcause, the gambling names that are displayed in front of a teams jersey exposes these casino to gamblers greatly but taking that out is just like removing less than a percentage of the different ways through which they get exposed to gambling ads.

Its effectiveness may not be as big as some people think, but banning gambling ads on shirts still reduces exposure. Less exposure can mean fewer people getting interested, especially minors who constantly see these teams and players. They wouldn’t introduce that rule for no reason. There must be some evidence or concern behind it, even if people may disagree on how effective the ban really is. Casinos will still find other ways to advertise anyway. They just won’t be able to use the shirt, which is one of the most visible places.

That's my point, an ad on the chest area will grap attention more than the one on the side even if both are in front of the shirt so even though betting companies are still able to advertise on the shirts of players it's still not going to have as much effect on the people watching them as it would if it was on the chest area and that's why that position is the most expensive one there is, especially since people tend to associate the club with the logo on their chest.

If it's to reduce gambling advertising, then it's not significant. Because there are many other outlets where gambling companies can still be visible in football, for example, training shirts, ad boards, score banners, stats, in game pop up sponsors, commentators' pre match, half time, and post match sessions, club's social media, ah... I lost count. There are definitely many. Also, gambling is something I believe will always exist. Gambling as an activity doesn't need to be promoted because people will look for it by themselves. They just need to know where to play, not what to play or how to play, especially when it comes to sports betting. Based on the EPL sponsor data from last season, 11 out of 20 EPL teams had gambling companies as sponsors visible on the front of their matchday shirts [1]. Meanwhile, this new season, it's dominated by finance companies and airlines, and 3 teams have chosen not to display any sponsor on the front of their matchday shirts. Is the back side accepted? What is the difference between the gambling site name be on the front or back of the jersey? Even if it is written boldly on the shoulder part of the jersey, still know that people will know about it. What I see about this is that they are only deceiving themselves. If they want to reduce gambling exposure, they can ban the gambling sites name to be written on the jersey instead.

I'm not saying people won't see it but it will catch people's attention more if it was in the front especially in the chest area, number and name usually take up a big amount of the back space and when people think about the jersey they usually think about what's in front of it, like when Manchester United wore AIG, my younger self felt that Man U was AIG, I didn't differentiate them as being too different entities, it was soon much that when they changed to AON I got a bit confused.

Gambling adverts don't attracts underage in sports alone, for example in my country underage children hardly get involved with sports that's shows gambling ads, there is no big stadium, there is no international matches been held here and still underage children still get caught in the web of gambling addicts. It will never work if you choose to remain silent, there are people outside who are ready to open the eye of your kids if care isn't taken.

I like gambling. Duh why I am here. And it is nice to see a brand you feel close to also on a club shirt but I think football is for family first of all and they did wrong having alcohol on the shirts. They did wrong with cigarettes on the stadium. And they are doing wrong with gambling on the shirts.
But football is going to the money these days anyway. Too late to clean up in some ways.
