The FIFA Ballon d'Or award ranking has always been about individual brilliance, achievement, and honors. Despite Mbappe not being able to win a major trophy last season, he is the most exceptional player in the FIFA award ranking and won the most individual honors as well as the best performance in all the competitions he participated in.

Lamine Yamal and Harry Kane are also ones to look out for in the 2026 Ballon d'Or award. Their goal contributions for a single season are incredible, especially that of Harry.

But at the end of the day, the votes that determine the winners of this competition are always the votes from team members, coaches and sports journalists, which, for me, is flawed, especially if a player is painted badly in the ranks of social media because, whether we like it or not, it has a big factor in the process.

This year awards is one I'm looking out for because, personally the most deserving of the award in terms of individual brilliance and performance is Kylian Mbappe, but based on his lack of team trophies, I think he will have an issue there, even as they say the award is given through those criteria, most of the time it feels like it's not at all.

I'd stick to this ranking. It's because there are strong reasons behind it. Mbappe who got three golden boots in the same season has to be the number one consider D'or is a personal award. Yamal must be in the 2nd place consider he gets three trophies in the same season.
However, a bit disagree to put Kane at the top three because most of his goals were in the farmer league.  

So i feel D'or will be winning by Mbappe or Yamal. That's it. I don't see kane win this and it makes no sense if he wins it. Even i'd rather put Dembele or Rodri above him.

Kane has scored 14 goals in the Champions League, just one less than Mbappe. At the World Cup he scored 6 goals, which is much less than Mbappe (10), but still very good. If you compare titles, Kane is much better than Mbappé. Mbappé also has a huge disadvantage: he hasn't won a single major title since joining Real Madrid. On the one hand, this is not always critical, but when we are talking about Real Madrid and the player who is expected to become a new legend in its squad, it is of great importance. I think Mbappe is completely out of the discussion this year.
Yamal won't win the prize due to politics, plus the fact that voters will split their votes between him and Rodri. That leaves only Kane, who's the ideal candidate.

All these players have performed very well last season both in their league sides and also in the international games they all participated in. All of the players you’ve mentioned have somthing to lay their hands on to pitch for the Balon d’Or winner, but looking at their opponents, they’ve also shown the same level of performance last season. One person will have to be the winner in the end and the favourites for me remains Harry Kane.

Harry Kane goal contributions and trophies won last season cannot be overlooked. If he has reached the finals of the World Cup, I would have just handed over the Balon d’Or to him but their are other things that needs to be checked, but he is still the most preferred player for that award as it stands now with the stats he has pulled off last season.

If I had to take a guess right now, my best bet would be Harry Kane, based on his performance for both his club and national team

Based on the performance, Harry Kane is the most prominent with a collection of goals as well as appearances at the World Cup, it's just not all that counts, while other candidates could be winners.

Vinicius is not a candidate according to the bookies, while Messi is in 5th place --- I'm not sure about messi himself, he only performed well at the World Cup.

In the end whoever wins will be a lot of debate and full of controversy.

Dembele. Based on his stats for the 2025–2026 season and the 2026 World Cup, this player deserves to win the Ballon d’Or this time around.
Dembele may not stand out as much as Mbappé or other candidates, but given all his contributions and the success of the teams he’s played for, Dembele deserves the most votes. But we all know how the voting system works.

Is Messi no longer worthy of being a winner candidate? He performed quite well in the World Cup, so my hope is that he gets in as one of the participants. Although I do understand that the winner selection, if it hasn't changed, is the best combination of individual stats and team success to become champions. Of course, Yamal and Kane are pretty strong candidates. Their individual and team stats are quite good, even though Yamal actually won the World Cup this year. If Yamal becomes the winner, it will set a record for the youngest player to win the Ballon d'Or.  In 2025, Yamal was in second place after Dembele, maybe this year he will make history because of his achievements with Barcelona and Spain.

I would put Mbappe in first place. 54 goal, Pichichi, Champions League Golden Boot and World Cup Golden Boot, his individual number is stronger than other. As I said,  Ballon d'Or will go to player who has achieved the most on  biggest stage

I think Kane comes before Mbappe, he won the 3 major trophies in Germany which are the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal (German Cup), and the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup. and he won bronze in the FIFA men world cup as well, he is also leading Mbappe in goals+assist contributions across all competitions. Mbappe didn't win any major trophy last season and worse of it all was denied world cup bronze by Kane's England, I don't see why he topped Kane on your list.

Harry Kane and Kylian Mabappe are my top contenders for the Ballon D'or. Both of them had an excellent performance in their respective club and countries as well. Harry Kane has being robbed off the Ballon D'or once so its only natural that he takes a chance at it this time because he has always being consistent with his performance every single season and has shown what hardwork looks like.

Does anyone still think that these two should not be leading the Ballon D'or pool even after an extraordinary World Cup performance.

If the award is been given due to the numbers of goals a player has I think Harry Kane will win the award and if it was about goals I think Klyian Mbappe or Harry Kane would have won the last one but they didn't. So I'm sure this award is not just given to player because they had the highest goal, there are other stats one ought to have and if I am not mistaken, Mbappe didn't have any trophy since two seasons now but Harry Kane has so he has more advantage than Mbappe but they may not be among the top 3 when time will come...

Dembele is still a candidate that I put in third position, because he still performed brilliantly at the World Cup with the contribution of goals and assists. But of course, the winners of the World Cup trophy often give players special tickets to the Ballon d'or, Yamal and Rodri are at the forefront.

Mbappe is also favored for being the top scorer in the World Cup and La Liga. This is arguably quite an interesting individual achievement because not all players can achieve it.

I remember the last Ballon D'or also sparking debate among football communities and fans, just as you have mentioned, there are qualified players for this title but it is a pity that they couldn't made it to the world Cup or final, while the players qualified for the world Cup final and won may not have enough statistics that may be required in choosing them being the most qualified players, I don't know if Lamine Yamal will be included among the list aside mbappé and Kane.

Sure there are players all over the world that are feet for this Ballon D'or  award but it was quite unfortunate that so many of the eligible players suitable for award wasn't able to archive it to the final in the world cup tournament and both in last season also, so if i should contribute on the above players mentioned by OP in this face Ballon D'or  award, i will suggest that Mbappe and Harry Kane is a better candidate for this award, if the award can go to any of this players Mbappe or Harry Kane, i think it will be a merited award because both players really contributed allot in the passed season and that of the world cup tournament.

But in my personal assessment and my predictions for the 2026 Ballon d'Or winner, my assumption is that there are two strong candidates to win the 2026 Ballon d'Or.

The choice of the Ballon d'Or winner will be close this year because no single player has an extraordinary performance. It would have been much easier to select if France won the World Cup. My guess would have been Dembélé retaining the award. Mbappe would have been the favourite if Real Madrid had won a major award. This year is a very tight contest between Kylan Mbappe, Harry Kane and Lamine Yamal although by individual contribution, Harry Kane and Mbappe are miles ahead of Yamal but winning major trophies is one factor that is in favor of Yamal. You have to understand that we jokingly call Bundesliga as farmer league. But Ballon d'Or is never awarded just by the name of league. So it would not be right to dismiss Kane's claim in one word. I saw a report online that showed Kane as one of the strongest contender, with many also putting forward Mbappe, Yamal or Rodri. So I think the competition is still quite open.

I wouldn't be too surprised if Mbappe, Yamal, Kane, Rodri, any of those four win. Because Ballon d'Or is not awarder just for scoring goal, nor just for a trophy. So it depends on how Ballon d'Or voters view it. The whole narrative surrounding a player, his impact and his reputation in football also have a lot to do with voters decision.
