Do you think Infantino will be forced out early or will he manage to cling to power until 2027? Who would you actually like to see lead FIFA out of this mess?
Infantino, who is still the president, may still be able to cling to power and remain FIFA president because of his influence that has gotten him backing from CAF based on investment FIFA has made in Africa in his time and also Asia, which could still be bigger than any other incoming candidate's.

@OP, add CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani; he will likely join the race and could be an upset for Infantino if the others who want Infantino out can back him up.

Infantino is likely to be sacked. He is in a deadlock. Whether he will be sacked or not is still unknown. Personally, I think it will not be easy to sack him through vote. I say this because it is difficult to coordinate among 211 countries. At least two-thirds of the countries that want to sack Infantino must be in favor of this proposal. This is the most important thing. Here the voting value of big countries and the voting value of small and poor countries is equal. Infantino has given a lot of money to small countries such as African, Oceanian and Caribbean associations for the past few years. Like no one has done before. So these votes will probably not go against Infantino.

However, Infantino can be sacked through the ethics committee sanction. As was done before with Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini. But for this, there must be specific evidence of corruption or violation of the code of conduct against Infantino

You should have added Victor Montagliani to the list, as he and Aleksander Ceferin are more popular now.

Gianni Infantino is very strong still, despite the opposition, even as they run FIFA like a mafia, so the grip might be shaking, yet we can't quickly rule him out. I love what is happening though; the just-concluded World Cup further exposes the kind of person he is, which strongly questions his leadership and competence.

For fairness and moral sakes, let that guy be ousted; he has done enough damage to the world of football. Come to think of it, this year+month makes it his 10.5th year as the FIFA president; is that not even enough? If major bodies like UEFA, CONCACAF, the AFC, etc, and top figures are against him. Well, I can only wish him good luck.

Infantino really messed up his chance to continue as the FIFA president. I still understand how he thinks the football world will accept the idea of him selling some percentage stake to the USA. Ever since the world cup was hosted in the USA and co , it's as if the his been given order or controlled, especially during that Balogun red drama.  I think the best FIFA president will be Kehlafi, he has the money, power and network to do that . Moreover he is friend with Caterin, so they will both have an agreement on who will run. But I feel Caferin will any to continue as the UEFA president. Nevertheless it won't be surprise if Infantino retains his seat , because of his friendship he has  with Trump.

I voted for Arsene Wenger. Given his football philosophy and past career, he is a strong candidate for the FIFA presidency.
Ceferin seems to be the leading candidate, but I don't understand why the PSG president (or owner) has so much support. That guy just has money; that’s all there is to it.
Arsene Wenger is someone who comes from a football background.
Whoever gets elected, it should be someone with a background in football.
Of these names, only Arsene Wenger has a footballing background.
There are names on the list I’m hearing for the first time.
Regardless of the outcome, Infantino shouldn't be president again.
I didn't like his plans for the World Cup at all.

Those are some weird names in the hat.
It will be nice if this event is added in the prediction market bets.
What are the odds that Infantino will retain his post? Has the point of no return already been passed?
You should have included an option where he retains his position..
@OP, add CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani..
You should have added Victor Montagliani to the list, as he and Aleksander Ceferin are more popular now.

Quick update for everyone: I just updated the (OP) to include all potential candidates, their odds and the sources for these predictions as of today (August 5, 2026). Just a quick note on the numbers, there are currently no official sportsbook odds open for Infantino to win re-election directly; bookies and prediction markets (like Polymarket and Kalshi) are only pricing whether he will make it to the 2027 election or get ousted before his term ends. The candidate odds listed reflect potential challengers if a race takes shape.

As of August 5, 2026, betting markets, prediction platforms and media reporting
(including figures aggregated via FourFourTwo, CSB, Polymarket, Kalshi and Paddy Power)
have established the following probabilities and odds:

Current President & Market Predictions

Gianni Infantino (Status / Removal Odds):
Polymarket: 68% chance to remain in office through end of 2026 (32% chance of removal)
Kalshi: 40% chance of leaving his role before year-end
Paddy Power: 1.25 (1/4) to keep his job by year-end

Potential Challengers & Candidates

Aleksander Ceferin (UEFA President): 2.20 (Favorite)
Nasser Al-Khelaifi (PSG President / ECA Chairman): 3.00
Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa (AFC President): 5.00
Victor Montagliani (CONCACAF President): 5.00
Arsène Wenger (FIFA Global Football Development Head): 9.00
Patrice Motsepe (CAF President): 13.00
Lise Klaveness (Norwegian FA President): 19.00
Outliers (Carles Puyol, Fabio Cannavaro, Pep Guardiola, Gareth Southgate): 34.00
Sepp Blatter (Former FIFA President): 51.00

I don't see this current FIFA president been removed, the reason is that if you look at those who are against Infantino are the Europeans,if a vote takes place today I see Africa giving block votes in support of Infantino, the Asian continent is likely to give block vote maybe only some countries in Asian may oppose.

The only continents that may oppose is Europe and CONCACAF which comprise of North and Central America and the Caribbean, and CONMEBOL which is South America.

Again looking at the contenders which are supposed to replace this current FIFA president am seeing the name of Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter and is even given 51% of succeeding him. This can be true because we all know how this man was removed out of FIFA some years ago. There were a lot of allegations about corruption under him

Wales, Finland, Serbia, England and Sweden have rescinded their endorsement for Gianni Infantino's reelection. Speculation is strong that all 55 UEFA (European) member nations are expected to withdraw their endorsements. Qatar,  the United Arab Emirates, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Lebanon, and Kuwait are still supporting his reelection. Some African countries, including Morocco and Egypt, are also backing him. I don't think he would be removed before his tenure ends. I guess aggrieved countries will be waiting to punish him during the next elections.

The FIFA president is paying the price for dealing with the wrong people. He was motivated to turn FIFA into a business owned by his friends. Football doesn't need someone like him as president because he would destroy the beautiful game.

I like what Nasser Al-Khelaifi has done at PSG. He has turned the French side into a force in Europe. He is my preferred choice.
Gianni Infantino needs to step down and forget anything about sport because I think he must have made a lot of money and gotten his hands into different investments since he won the seat.

I think there should be a law that will restrict being a FIFA president for maximum of two consecutive tenures so that we don't continue to see greedy men trying to dominate the position with their corrupt mindset and political structures. The previous FIFA game has shown his true colour how he was able to use favouritism to help his friends win the 2026 world cup. His idea selling the FIFA shares had established a negative signal to the public.

ever since infantino took on this role in 2016, there has always been controversy surrounding him. there has always been tension, but the world cup was the last straw. i’m not sure if he’ll be removed from his position or if he’ll stay on, but i think the best course of action would be for him to step down and be replaced by a new president. as long as people hate him this much, the enjoyment of every tournament he’s involved in will diminish.

right now, the odds of him leaving and staying seem to be fifty-fifty, so we still can’t say anything for certain.

You don't see what happens in UEFA and how they switch referee decisions, you don't see how Premier League refused to sanction Manchester City of their crimes. If I want to list the numbers of corruptions in football, there will be commotion because all of them are the same. People are just mad because Infantino had Trump involved with him and of course many don't like him.

This campaign didn't take place in the last Qatar world cup but they waited for better opportunity as election is coming up in March, they now want to silence his confidence by election but I like the fact that he is not making noise. He is not small too, the same Trump he made card change was political reason and stability, same way they will stand by him before election. I have seen this kind of game before in Real Madrid when Perez was reelected and heaven didn't fall.

I would say that after managing the World Cup in a scandalous way by bending to the wishes of the United States and Donald Trump, he really deserves it.
I didn't really like the way he behaved honestly, so i would say it would also be time to step aside.

Yes, I agree with you. Even how can we tell if the next FIFA president to be elected isn't going to be corrupt? During the Sepp Blatter regime, he was also accused of some corruption, even then UEFA President Platini. I don't know the criteria those that vote in the FIFA President uses in their voting, choosing, or selecting the FIFA president. I have noticed something with people in power or holding various important positions: they might have good intentions in the first place, but when they get there, the system bends them due to the people that surround them.

I don’t have problem with anyone who get the FIFA top job. If it were possible for all of them to get the job at once, I would have said all of them should have the job. Infantion has messed himself up, and he should resign from office immediately. He shouldn’t wait for the election or anybody calling for his removal. But to be honest, the president office should go to another continent and not Europe this time. They have produced the last two presidents.

It doesn't matter who will get the job as long as they have the heart to do what needs to be done as a President. No personal bias just pure business. Because he is catering people across the globe and so he needs to be fair about his decisions.

However, from what I've seen, none of the candidates appeal to me. They're all essentially the same, each with their own interests. But that's better than Infantino, who has excessively transformed the current normality of football into his business.

Apart from the scam accusations against the current president of FIFA. I love the idea he brought to increase the numbers of countries playing at the world cup stage because it gave enough exposures to those nations. I do not like the idea that only few countries plays at the world stage and the rest at the qualifiers. Every country should get a chance to play for the rest of the world to watch and that makes the game more interesting, I don't care who wins but they should increase the teams to 64 so we can continue with the round of 32 at least for only would cups as it happens only 4 years apart and gives more players and nations and opportunities to show us what they can do.

It looks like Gianni Infantino's grip on FIFA is finally starting to slip, I wanted to start a thread to see what everyone thinks about who might be stepping up to take over the role next.

Arsene Wenger should be the next FIFA President because he has genine understand of the passion involved in Football. We dont need someone whose decision can be influenced through politics. Arsene Wenger changed football during his time as a manager. I know what he is capable of if he was given the position to lead FIFA.

Honestly, this is a hard choice. I know Infatino feels unemployed after he losses many of support to choose him to still remain a FIFA president. However, none of names in the list looks interesting except Wenger.
Just like Ceferin, he's UEFA president, but he's also as corrupt as Infantino. So i don't think he's the right candidate for this. Picking him is just replacing a corrupt leader with another corrupt leader.

Other than that European officials suggested Nasser al-Khelaifi as the next president, but he's owner of a club. So there may be a personal agenda when he gets chosen. So picking him is also having an example you compare garbage vs trash.
So after all, Wenger is the only a sense choice. He's the only one from the list who have full passion in football. So he's the only good option available that list. I hope someone to add Florentino Perez in the list in the future.  Cheesy

It is important to remember in detail how these processes work, in case of FIFA we have the political way of removing someone and the ethics committee as you mention. If you look at the history of presidents and cases, it is very hard to gain the votes required to remove someone politically and the chance for this is like 0. The ethics committee has a higher probability, but even there it is not likely. If you look at the case against Blatter and Platini, they never faced criminal proceedings against them if I remember correctly even though the FIFA ethics committee punished them which shows that the ethics committee can be quite strict, but it still requires evidence. In the case of Infantino we don't really have evidence of misconducting. Users here confuse what it means to have bad leadership and bad management with ethics violation, it may seem similar sometimes but these things are not related at all. We can disagree with Infantino's decisions and see them as bad, but it could simply be a case of him being a very bad leader and having terrible ideas even if he thinks they are great.

With the amount of time also left in his term, I am not confident that they will rule against him even if it remains a possibility. We should focus on who might become the next president anyway since Infantino is going out in either case.

He could certainly be one of the best candidates for this appointment, but it's certainly not a given that he'll change a bit while holding such a high and responsible position. In any case, we don't know how any of the candidates will behave if they are appointed to such a position. I mean, Arsene Wenger might behave well in his first year and then start doing something in his own interests, for example. But then again, we'll only know that once he's in office. So, overall, I wouldn't be opposed to him becoming the new FIFA president.

To be honest, I'm angry at the prediction markets here - the outcomes are absolutely fucked up.
It seems to me that only two outcomes are of interest: whether Infantino will be removed before the end of his term and who will win the next election (including Infantino). Why should I bet on "by the end of 2026" if the elections are in 2027?
I just checked Polymarket and they really only accept forecasts for the end of the year. It's strange, because for most of such events there are usually a lot of timings - a month, half a year, until the end of the year.
