I disagree with the OP regarding the reasons for the ban. The government may ban gambling for political reasons. If an epidemic of gambling addiction begins in the country, the wives and mothers of addicted gamblers will be furious with the government, and this is fraught with a very large increase in public discontent. Therefore, for example, in Russia, special gambling zones (like only five) have been created for casinos, for rich clients. Meanwhile, betting is legal, as it is considered less addictive. Of course, any bans contribute to the illegal spread of gambling.

I will rather prefer that government regulates gambling activities in a country/area rather than completely banning it, yes i know that government might have their reasons for banning which could be because they are trying to reduce gambling addiction or as a way of ensuring that casinos are not much except for those that are registered with the government and the once that the government are generating revenue from etc, however, a complete ban of gambling activities in an area doesn’t seem so nice to me reason being that banning gambling completely takes away humans right of choice, everyone has the right to do what makes them happy as long as it is legal and no crime is committed in the process, the best the government should do is seek ways to generate revenue and secondly put in strict rules that will regulate gambling activities and cub any associated gambling crime, lastly the government can also make regular advertisement showing the dangers of excessive gambling addiction as part of their regulatory measures rather than banning completely.

I align with you point of argument as it's factual, government as regulatory body has way of cutting down future unknown unforseen circumstances by early prevention of what would likely to happen, if a gambling sight is trafficking by human inflow as much that it call for government attention, they will first analyze the impact both positive and negative, where the negative is taking higher percentage government has no other options than to band, because if they don't everything will still fall back in a society where everyone is insane course by gambling through addiction government will not be at rest, financial control is not actually the only issue government focus on gambling sight some is for sanity's of people not been addicted. For instance where the population is more in gambling rather focusing in productive work force it will still affect government because they need both human work force to meet update society demand, in a case where such happened government will also be forced to closed down or band inorder to regain work force.

They have their own reasons but we can see that either way, their people still gamble no matter what. They will always find a way to gamble because this is innate to people. So when the government ban any type of gambling is just useless as their people will just do it in the black market.
Still when you compare it to when there was no ban on gambling you will find that black market users are less then when everyone was doing it legally and this is because not everyone can find a way to cut around the system, not everyone is bold enough so banning gambling might not put a complete stop on gambling but it will definitely reduce it and that alone is already a win for some of these governments.

Placing a ban on gambling cannot be totally enforced in a country because their are some fellows that will always look for a way around it, through the use of vpn or other ways, so I believe that regulating it within the state is the best, because the only thing a ban can achieve is by limiting it to some people, but to large a majority, it would be impossible, since technology has practically taken over everything, so it's very easy to buy pass any blockage the government may set, except those that have no access to phone and Internet.
Most government will take the fight against addiction as the main reason for banning gambling, but it's mostly for political reasons, not for the interest of the general public.

Whats your take?

My take is that government only try to act or react when situation with gambling becomes heated in society. A lot of time people dont care about gambling industry and number of addicted gambler. They dont care until one or several citizens appear, who shout about problem louder than others. For government to show that they care, and as they are force to react to society problems, they start running anti-gambling program by forcing media anti gambling articles to appear, by announcing their plans to solve increasing problem. When those who were shouting about gambling problem get satisfied by reaction or shut their mouth, government stop all activities and continue to chill run a country Cheesy

Most govt don't ban gambling for moral reason. They do so mainly to stop competition in their monopolies. They don’t actually hate gambling, they just hate when they aren't the ones making money from it.

Japan Cash gambling is banned. But pinball/pachinko industry is making billions of dollar through three-store loophole.

China Destroys all private casino, while govt itself runs two huge state lottery. Welfare & Sports, that print billions every year.

Indonesia Despite the closure of government lottery under religious pressure, VPN and offshore casino have now created huge black market there.

Pattern is pretty clear, when govt ban gambling, they either own the business themselve or push ordinary people into illegal market.

Whats your take?

I would somewhat agree with you, when governments ban gambling it is always for their own profit and not because they care much about their citizens. I have my story of the country where I live in, in 2019 massive crack down on every single gambling activity with the motivation that very young people like 13-14 year old were playing sport bets instead of eating lunch with money that their family had given them to eat lunch. This was the reason in appearance, the truth is they gave to the brother of Prime minister the only license to operate in the country.

It is true that government wouldn't want any competition in any thing they are doing including gambling, they have realized that their is money in gambling, and competitors will help to reduce their own profit. However, their is another thing they do, even as they stop all private casinos from operation, the people in the government are all stake holders to the government owned casino or betting company, they invest their money their, and make huge money as profit, and they make sure no other company works.
Government don't only do this in gambling, but this method is also applied to even the economy of a country, the government can monopolize the economy, and use a particular person or company to run a whole country's economy, and invest in that very company as stake holders too.

Gambling is a good business, considering how popular it has become worldwide these days, especially among young people. And of course, those who are friends with high-ranking officials are not above being owners. In any case, many of them do a lot for their own interests, and profit will certainly be their primary focus, at least I think so. Of course, not in all countries, but most likely in most. Sometimes I even think that citizens have no influence on gambling in their countries.

In reality, government will always win because of their jurisdiction power and the government could decide if they want to operate or not, but if they do they'll be the one to cover all the costs of the operation. Wherein if they want private casinos to operate, it will not be costly for the government and they'll just collect taxes. There are reasons why government bans it and it's not that they want to compete on it, they're on the win-win side as always. Illegal market is just another problem and  yeah partly it's because of the ban but even when there's no site wide bans on gambling, people still goes to illegal markets.

Context also matters because the reason why country A banns gambling in most cases will be different from the reason behind country B banning gambling. some are against gambling based off religious, moral or economic reason in terms of it effect on the average citizens that probably don't take there lives seriously. in it all, the ban is mostly predicated by the fact that the government has the ultimate power to determine what stays and what is prohibited in her region. of cause depending on the government in power, some might not think towards any form of gambling related regulation till the elapse of their tenure. same is the case with the way different government of different nation views crypto and attempts to regulate it even though it does not pose any form of threat to their nation.

I believe those government that are banning gambling are just making this gambling companies make more money without them knowing, if a government give a rule that before a gambling company will operate in there country they most be licensed by the government, that means they are going to make money from the gambling company, so the more money the gambling companies make the more they return to the government, but in a situation where the government ban gambling, the citizens will still gamble secretly without the government knowing and the gambling companies there citizens are using secretly through the help of VPN makes money without returning anything to the government.

Sorry I don't believe this, who told you that government aren't making money from casinos? Something that's the back bone of funding for some countries? Do your own research and if you already did you can try once more, between the government and casinos it's all about naming your price, if you can pay you are free to run, and it doesn't end there, for you to keep running that casino I'm peace you need to be regulated, from there you will have to be paying some money every month or year under the disguise of you paying taxes, the tax coming from casinos aren't small.

Countries have different rules and reasons on why and how they will take actions on problems, about private casinos getting destroyed it's a battle between them not waiting to be friendly with the government on that fact that the government also has it's public casino too, I get your point but if those private casinos are also to be extremely friendly with China's government they will be allow to run but they will have to pay alot of money, mind you china still have large numbers of private casinos in different states, its just that some state rules are better than others.

I believe the problem is the enforcement of the law. If it was really to stop all people gambling, the rules would be equally applied to all people. In many areas, it's the case of independent operators being closed off and a few licensed or politically connected businesses operating. Of course, people ask themselves what really is the motivation? Meanwhile, it's important not to overlook serious issues such as underage and addiction gambling. Governments need to solve those issues, but transparency and equal treatment are key to the trust the public needs in their intentions.

The government will not take it easy with any unregulated platform, whether it is a gambling casino or another. This is why some of these platform also faces some serious challenges with our regulatory bodies, because all they need is to ensure that they control most of the decision-making and also tax them. Any non-compliance will lead to victimization from the government goes they won't take it easy when a platform is not recognized by them and in full operation.

Yeah that’s right. Although sometimes, gambling bans are not really aimed at completely eradicating gambling, but rather to only reduce the overall participation by using that means to discourage casual gamblers from being too actively engaged and involved in gambling.

Although sometimes, how effective these policies are solely dependent on how it affects the bettor and whether it is really deals with the underlying problem that it was meant to.

Pattern is pretty clear, when govt ban gambling, they either own the business themselve or push ordinary people into illegal market.

Whats your take?

It's pretty clear, everyone wants a piece of cake... and the cake is huge. Some countries are pretty open about gambling, there are rules & regulations, and casinos pay taxes in those countries... it's a legal business. Some are banning it, but they have black markets, and they also pay a racket to the bosses. It's an illegal business supported by those in power. You see, the government always has control, one way or another... You can't operate on a larger scale without support.

I think the few countries that ban casinos are either doing that because their religion go against it or that they feel it is making their people addicted to it. But the people still find ways to gamble using VPN. I'm yet to see a country dominated by Muslim of about 80% that is not frowning on gambling but if the government of those countries will ban it because of religion or addiction and they go behind to own it by themselves, that is hypocrisy.

But what I know in the past about liberal countries, the government organized lottery business where they were in charge but this time around, they have relinquished that to private people and that is actually what has given birth to online casino. The government of such countries instead of banning gambling, they gave them free hand to operate while they collect tax from them. That is a win win situation and the economy benefit from gambling proceeds instead of "banning it" and gamblers still bet surreptitiously using VPN.

Different countries, different laws, but here in our country, they are banning not just casinos but also CEX that are not registered in our country and say it's dangerous to use them. But the truth is they just want the local companies to make profit so they can get the revenue. Well, that is understandable, but to say those companies outside are dangerous to use is completely laughable when they are even better compared to the ones we have locally. In short, they are not just blocking them because it is against the law, but more because of their own self interest.

They are also not allowing international players to join. The one blocking them from entering, in the outside, is the government, but that is just a lie. The truth is someone pulled the strings to block the outsiders so locals will only use their platform. They just want to monopolize the industry. No matter how they advertise and whoever their advertiser is, I have more trust in crypto casinos than our local online casinos.

I believe those government that are banning gambling are just making this gambling companies make more money without them knowing, if a government give a rule that before a gambling company will operate in there country they most be licensed by the government, that means they are going to make money from the gambling company, so the more money the gambling companies make the more they return to the government, but in a situation where the government ban gambling, the citizens will still gamble secretly without the government knowing and the gambling companies there citizens are using secretly through the help of VPN makes money without returning anything to the government.

that banning gambling doesn't necessarily stop people from gambling. In most of these situations, it simply drives players to offshore platforms, VPNs or unregulated operators that are not monitored by the government or that pay no taxes. But I do not believe that is the sole justification for government regulation of gambling tax income. That is not to mention concerns regarding addiction. Fraud money laundering and consumer protection. An effective approach is to create a well regulated and licensed gambling market rather. Than a total ban as it provides players with legal protection and enables authorities to regulate gambling.
