Pointing out someone's mistake and attacking someone in such a way that they don't understand what the original mistake was is also a problem. And if someone is going to learn something, they will make mistakes. Suppose a newbie made a wrong statement. You just finished him off by telling him that you don't know anything. Okay. Then what? In what part did he make a mistake? Why was it wrong? If you say it according to the concept it won't be wrong, these things should also be pointed out to him. Although most senior members clearly tell why it is wrong after finding someone's mistake. If someone doesn't say it and criticizes in such a way that a newbie loses the motivation to learn, then I would say that that senior member only knew it himself but is not properly fulfilling his responsibility in the forum. Now if a newbie comes and spreads wrong information repeatedly. If he doesn't understand and starts giving wrong advice to other members, then he can be told a little harshly. But the one who wants to learn should be given the correct idea by explaining it in the simplest way.
Mannerism still matters alot and we can't look away from it. You can't say you are correcting someone, and you tell the negative life history of that person and reign insults on the person, sometimes, before pointing out the mistake. Some people don't even care to give the correction anymore after abusing the person or newbie with the mistake. This is totally wrong. It's true that it takes time to learn something new, and most times, the knowledge comes after repeated mistakes and corrections, but then, the mabber with which one is corrected plays a major role as to wether the person learns or losses interest from learning totally.
However, I would say that while senior members would be making some corrections or reacting to the post of some newbies who lack proper understanding or good writing skills or writing with poor knowledge, they should ensure that they temper Justice with mercy. We know and/or I know that some newbies can be so annoying. Some still even claim right or tend to explain something they have no much knowledge about, arguing and pointing out to unnecessary points which somehow are meaningless. When all these are happenings, high ranked members should just somehow bear with them to see how they can be managed and hopefully with time, they would become part fo the system and begin to understand how best to do it.
Lastly, as a newbie, one must be open to learning. If maybe a senior member spoke to you badly but finally gave the correction or the answer you were looking for, I thinks it's just best you concentrate on the answer or corrections and forget the wrongs statements. Gradually, everyone will grow. But in all, a good mannerism will be appreciated
