Interestingly enough, both times the winner was Athletico Madrid!

That was in 2018 - a grand miracle of beating Real and in 2012 - with Falcao singlehandedly dismantling very weak Chelsea that managed to win the UCL by some crazy luck.

It's always difficult for the European champions to loose out on the super cup after winning the champ league. It's even more difficult because of the team and there coach. PSG is just too good that loosing that match will be what they won't want at all. They won it last year, after coming from behind to beat Tottenham Hotspur and won to the trophy. And the thing is that they are not relenting. They are still very fit and a strong opposition to any team they will play.

Aston Villa though would have been a bit formidable force that will face them and fight for the trophy. But am sure presently now, they are weakend since they sold some of there good players. Considering their season starts earlier than other teams (they don't want to miss out on the Super Cup, after all), it's logical they haven't had a full schedule or preseason. I highly doubt that, it’s a trophy match and they don’t need to have several months to themselves just to rest and enjoy the holidays. These guys would most certainly be out on the pitch to make their mark in the super cup. I am expecting Dembele on the starting lineup. I noticed but maybe it could be because a lot of PSG players participated in the recently concluded World Cup. Many of the first team players being absent can actually interrupt their preparations for the next season so maybe that's why played only two friendly games which was against Mallorca and Manchester United. I think the Super Cup and the French champions trophy game against Lens will fill the space and help them prepare as they should for the season.

True their performance in these two friendlies was not impressive but with the squad they used I didn't expect much since they had many first team players absent. I believe they would perform better in the Super Cup against Aston Villa. It won't be easy because Emery is a coach to avoid in games like this.
