Hello,

I want bring a matter of serious abuse to the attention of the staff and the community. It appears we have a successor to the previous merit manipulation cases used to inflate memecoin popularity (such as the case of Vlad2Vlad) and potentially a huge scale account farming operation by Julien_Olynpic.


When looking at the merit history, the total are difficult to ignore. https://loyce.club/Merit/history/1166480.html shows at least 1000 merit transactions sent to replies which include the word "chamby". This frequency is obvious irregular.


The merit system is intended to reward good quality posts. However, the posts being merited by Julien_Olynpic are bland posts that do not contribute meaningful discussion.

I'm really impressed with what I saw in this thread. From the name, serious memecoin, chamby is really position as a serious memecoin with it future plan.

I look at the website and the UI is eye friendly. You guys are doing a great job here and I can tell that this token stand out as a genuine community driven memecoin. The roadmap show that it is focused on radical decentralization.

I came across a post on twitter with a telegram bot link but it seem the bot is not longer active to execute what it was meant for.

The previous permanent removal of merit source status for Vlad2Vlad was a splendid step to protect the forum from merit-sourcing for the purpose of altcoin shilling.

Just leaving this here for the next merit sorcery realignment.

The reason is Vlad2Vlad who claims to be "Lead dev and CTO and CEO of IXcoin" and happens to be a merit source sending large amounts of merit in that thread. He's also doing the same thing in own thread shilling IXC: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=317658

I know the post quality is quite subjective but this looks like a massive conflict of interest and not the best use of source merits. Perhaps a different merit source can be selected for the altcoin boards who would prop up more than one shitcoin thread.

I tend to agree with this.

We need more information from the local board (Pyccкий (Russian)) about how @Julien_Olynpic distributes his merits. I can't read the posts in Russian, but if they're in the same style as [ANN] CHAMBY: serious memcoin on TON, then that member should be removed from the merit sources list.

I checked some of the Merit sent by Julien_Olynpic in relation to "chamby", and those snippets are taken from the first 4 posts I checked:

They're literally all promoting this shitcoin, and if you check their Merit history, they received a large share of their total Merit from just this. Without looking any deeper, it doesn't look good if a Merit source is used to promote a shitcoin.

Most times, instead of facing the topic of discussion, the op would get lashed just because he didn't use his main account and deliberately shift the attention from the message probably because they're guilty. I know everyone is entitled to do what they please with their merits but as a merit source, it's expected that the merits are distributed evenly but this seems like abuse to me..isn't there a way to strip him of his role as a MS because if attitudes like these get overlooked, others could follow and he'd just be breeding and enabling more account farmers.

I also skipped this thread, because i saw so many weak or non-sense accusation from new account. But from what OP shared, it's definitely worth for further investigation either from admin side or any member who're willing to do it.

There are 715 records and 290 of them went to post that contain title "chamby", which is about 40.5%. I don't feel like checking any of those 290 posts, so i can't be sure OP accusation is accurate or not.

I fully agree with OP, and I support his claim.
If you check the posts merited by Julien_Olynpic, they are either in the Russian local board or in that token ANN thread, which means that the only English thread he is interested in spending his smerits on is a token thread that he created himself.

I don't have anything to say about the merit Julien_Olynpic distributes in the Russian local board, because I don't understand Russian. But if you are interested in English boards as well, what would you merit posts only in that token thread? If you are interested in altcoins discussions or tokens announcements, why would you merit posts only in your own token announcement?

Julien_Olynpic is a merit source, and I said in my previous post, that's not how a merit source is supposed to use source merits. theymos has made Julien_Olynpic a merit source for a purpose, and I am sure the purpose wasn't to award posts that promote a specific token.

I see that Julien_Olynpic is sending merits for posts in the Russian section, and they may not be as bad as those laudatory "songs" from those who actively advertise the Chamby token.

We have written many times that alternative accounts will appear where the merits are distributed very easily. This topic, and the behavior of Julien_Olynpic, is a real example of how some, not newbies at all, create accounts specifically for posting on this topic.

Next, we see the sale of such accounts, the sale of merit, and other abuses.

Many of those who were active in that shitcoin thread will be in mourning when they find about this, as I'm sure they thought they had found an easy way to milk merits for a long time.

If this hadn't been reported and dealt with, I'm sure many of them would have reached higher ranks just by being active there.

That should be one of the fastest action taken by Theymos. I think the decision was easy since we already had similar case in the past which is the case of Vlad2Vlad. I guess the discussion in that thread will dry up if the merits stops flowing, we shall see in coming days or weeks.

Out of the 531 Merit received, around 220 Merit came from that thread. I guess they were one of those who managed to take advantage of it. 
It's not impossible that accounts that have already ranked up might eventually bring their farms to the same thread to rank up quickly.

you're taking the forum seriously. As long as the accusations are true, you shouldn't be afraid to post them from your main account. There are a few reasons to create an alt account, and this certainly shouldn't be one of them.

The Chamby token thread and how it was being used by absolute spammers to rank up has been brought up before. I think the reason why the abuse didn’t get enough attention before is because not many people were aware that Julien_Olynpic was a merit source. I myself wasn’t sure because I couldn’t find his application thread and thought there might be some other reason why he had so much merit to give away.

He has been accused of having an account farm before, but those allegations were made by Excimer who is a troll that nobody takes seriously. It did, however, lead to him being suspended temporarily for doing an altcoin giveaway. That’s not necessarily something for which he should lose his merit source status, but it should have made the forum staff examine his behavior more closely, where perhaps the abuse would have been caught and terminated sooner.

Like with ThemePen and SmartGold01, they were allowed to carry on for far longer than they should have.

The posting style of Julien_Olynpic reminds me a lot of the 3 accounts that were banned recently for posting translations of Russian articles.

The desire to indirectly entice players to stay longer at the casino is a natural part of marketing. We notice this in online gambling, but somehow don't notice it in other areas of commerce, such as grocery stores. Grocery stores also have their own tricks for arranging different products at adult eye level (expensive items) versus cheaper ones. Those placed too low or too high, or children's products placed at child's eye level. It's natural for online casinos to use color, sound, and fonts, for example, to captivate players and encourage them to spend more. But this is mostly noticed by newcomers. Experienced players often lose track of it.

They are the kind of posts that come back as 99% AI in Sapling and 0% in everything else. Its easy to claim that they are just using a translation tool, but the problem is most of their English posts are like this, just giving generic advice to no one in particular.

The art of tracing content back to its original Russian version is not easy, but I'm willing to bet this account is probably doing the same, if not something even more elementary.

I have been following that thread for long now, I think it has been one year now and that’s because I’m investing on the token.
Since I’m investing on the token I also decided to promote it.
I volunteer to run update on Chamby token voluntary signature campaign and I have been doing it for a very long time.
When I started it, I was not receiving merit from anyone but in continued doing it because my goal was just to promote the Chamby token that I’m investing on.
However, as time goes on I started receiving merit from the Chamby token voluntary signature campaign update I do every week.
I made a lot of impact in the promotion of the token.
Where did I do something wrong, is it bad to invest in Chamby token and promote it, if I was receiving merit because of the impact I’m making on the growth of the token, how did I go wrong or break the forum rules.
Was i suppose to tell Julien_Olynpic or other set of people sending me merit on that thread to stop or should i have lift the thread, to avoid being dragged.
The most post I make there is to give update, teach or bring new ideas.
If I have actually done something wrong I will love to know so I will be guided moving forward.
